Laura Bush Defends Michelle Obama's Patriotism

One of the sillier memes floating around out there is that Michelle Obama is somehow unpatriotic and not proud of America (due to a quote a while back that was misconstrued).

So, guess what rabid, left-wing crackpot jumped to Michelle Obama's defense today?

That's right, First Lady Laura Bush:

Michelle Obama has a new defender from those who say she isn't patriotic enough -- First Lady Laura Bush. In an interview with ABC News, Bush said that Obama's February remark that she was proud of the United States "for the first time in my adult life" was misconstrued.

"I think she probably meant `I'm more proud.' That's what she really meant," Bush said from Afghanistan.

"You have to be really careful in what you say because everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued," she said.

Thank you, Mrs. Bush.  Your sanity on this issue is greatly appreciated.

Hilarious (2.00 / 3)

The wife of our worst enemy gives us more credit than the supposed Democrats on HillaryIs44 and NoQuarter.

Re: Hilarious (2.00 / 2)

There is some serious racism over on noquarter. I looked at the site a few days ago and one poster called Obama a "mongrel." Another said that they should find out if he ever dated white women.

I've heard (2.00 / 2)

I've never checked it out myself.

As for dating white women... You know, I'd be willing to bet that Obama tracked down all his old girlfriends to make sure that they weren't going to intentionally tank him before he ran for high office.

Though I shouldn't laugh.  Al Franken has probably been to some Playboy parties.  It's gonna be a bumpy Senate race.

I was bummed at the time (none / 0)

...but now that I've seen and heard more of Harold Ford, Jr., I am not sad that he lost his race.  He's nigh useless, as far as I can tell from his MSNBC spots.

I really want the DLC to fall apart after this year (yes, Herb Kohl, that was a dis).

Moneysinks are supposed to lose (none / 0)

... but he won us Montana and Virginia, so don't be so bummed.

Most people REALLY hate blatant racism.

And Ford got a ton of coverage.

well I will no longer say george bush is the worst enemy

I am thinking about thanking him I think he is a big part of why Obama has a chance of winning

if we had a competent president in the white house Obama would have had more of a uphill battle

He's still the archenemy (2.00 / 2)

We'll be fighting against his policies and the legacy of his culture of corruption for probably decades to come.  Even on his way out, he's still able to hurt us.

He's still Emperor Palpitine to McCain's Darth Vader.

Why is there SO MUCH mention of those other two (none / 0)

websites on this one?

I can understand discussions regarding Daily Kos on here from time to time, because the two sites are related and have the same basic format, but why do we need to discuss Hillaryis44 and NoQuarter so much on MyDD?

Those are related, too (2.00 / 2)

MyDD was (is) strongly pro-Clinton.  Those other websites promote Clinton even in the face of her defeat... and wishes.

Many diaries from those sites have gotten posted here as well.  There is a commenter overlap as well.

They are supposedly Democrats, but, unlike MyDD, they refuse to support the official nominee.

Thus, there is enough evidence for comparing and contrasting.

For the first time in my adult life, I'm really proud of our current First Lady.

Actually... (2.00 / 2)

I prefer this picture of the "first lady."

I don't like Oliver Stone, or the current administration, but I think I'll be seeing his movie about it.

I don't know if she was defending what she said or commenting on the fact that MO wasn't very careful about choosing her words.

Did you read the quote?  Mrs. Bush said:

laura used to be a democrat (2.00 / 2)

then she married the shrub.  personally, i think she's got a teensy bit of empathy in her, unlike the rest of her party.  i'll give her kudos for this one, but only this one.

Don't trust what? You're not required to trust her on anything here.

She is, however, giving us cover everytime the Rethugs try to bring this ridiculous non-issue up.

Uhh just b/c she said a sentence that sounds sane coupled with a backhanded reproach ("watch what you say...") is hardly deserving of gratitude. I will never thank anyone of those people for anything they have ever done. They have been a blight on our country.

Re: Laura Bush Defends Michelle Obama's Patriotism (none / 0)

McCain also offered a lukewarm defense of Kerry during the 2004 Swiftboating.  It didn't do him much good.

It's just a token gesture to immunize the right against backlash.

The First lady job sucks --- Nancy stood up for Rosalyn.  Barbara stood up for Hillary. Everybody stood up for Pat.  Betty stood up for everyone.

I doubt Laura really cares about about Michelle but I'm sure she did not enjoy the taunts, comments and jabs at her

by kmwray on Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 08:51:19 PM EST

As much as I think GWB is a tragic President (none / 0)

Laura Bush has always been a classy lady. In two terms, I don't think I've ever seen her lose her shit.
