Obama Literally Strong-Arms Lieberman on the Senate Floor

ABC News ran the video above on their obnoxious and barely functional website, under the headline: Obama Dishes Tough Talk to Lieberman at http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex? id=5006126

Like many other people who oppose the war in Iraq, I usually think of Joe Lieberman as something like a worm with a sugary smile pasted on one end, so the idea of Obama dishing Lieberman some "tough talk" sounds good to me...

But every time I try to feel that party unity feeling about our presumptive nominee for President, something always goes wrong with the details: I couldn't hear the "tough talk," but I could see Joe Lieberman being pulled along sideways all the way off the Senate floor by a much younger and much larger Senator.

Obama shakes Lieberman's hand, and he never lets go. They walk off the Senate floor together holding hands, you might say, but Lieberman's right hand is extended awkwardly across his body, and it isn't much like the way young lovers hold hands as they stroll across a meadow.

The crucial moment for recognizing what's going on comes up about 16 seconds into the video, when Obama and Lieberman meet a woman in a pink jacket on their way off the edge of the screen.

Apparently the woman is trying to say something to Obama or Lieberman, and she reaches out to take Lieberman's hand, but he can't quite turn to face her, and as they brush past her, she takes an awkward step back.

This is a wrong moment. If Lieberman could turn, he would have turned, instead of brushing by sideways, but Obama wouldn't let him go, and it's very bad manners, at the very least.

The whole thing may look like "friendly contact" to Obama's devotees, but for me it shades into something more like physical compulsion, and I have to say...

The next time Obama wants to dance somebody off the floor of the United States Senate, I hope he has the balls to pick a more formidable partner than little old Joe Lieberman.

On the youtube page --->
Look to the right of the video clip --->
There is a window beneath the description --->
It is labeled EMBED --->
Copy the string of code from within that window --->
Paste it directly into the MYDD comment window ---> Voila!

IMHO, Pro Lieberman is Pro McCain (2.00 / 3)

How's this diary any different than a pro-McCain diary? Really, I'd like to know? IMHO, Obama should've just cut Lieberman's disingenuous arm off and shoved it up his ass! The Senator from Connecticut has done more than burn bridges in the past couple of weeks. He's torched his own future in the Democratic Party's leadership in the Senate. When you look up "Judas" in the next edition of Roget's, it'll reference Senator Joe Lieberman!

Here's why, based upon Lieberman's actions in last few days, alone...

1.) The public attack on Obama that totally distorted his position on Israel, the day after Obama became the presumptive nominee of the Party, and just hours/minutes before their showdown in the Senate.

2.) The announcement that Lieberman will be one of the featured speakers at the GOP Convention in St. Paul.

3.) The AIPAC Letter issued a day after Obama participated in that showdown on the Senate floor (kind of a middle finger from Senator Joe to every Democrat in the country).

IMHO, so far, Lieberman's getting off easy. The fact that the diarist would defend him and attack Lieberman is over-the-top and tells me this post belongs on some GOP'er site!

As a former Hillary diehard-turned-Obama supporter in the past few days, I find this diary grossly inappropriate!

that dumped four inches of sewer backlog in my basement yesterday?  That was fun...after having to sit in direct sunlight in black robes for two hours (only to discover that I missed graduating "Magna Cum Laude" by a mere .006 GPA--dammit!  Oh well, "Cum Laude" ain't bad, I guess) and getting heatsick and sunburned, then making the four and a half hour drive home through downpour and flooded Milwaukee streets, I got to bail sewage out of the basement (still in my dress and wearing my father's boots, since my only shoes in the house were sandals and I couldn't bring anything in from the van without it getting ruined by the bucketing rain).

So, yeah--fuck you, weather!

Re: Obama Literally Strong-Arms (none / 0)

 I'm still not convinced that responding to diaries like this, which just go away if people ignore them, is better than starting diaries about McCain. There are enough people lurking who need to know exactly who the guy is and what he has done and said. I think the rational versus irrational argument is ineffective with people who genuinely feel the need to discuss what they have experienced during the primaries. That said, we could use a little freeze in NYC right now.
