Wes Clark and Securing America Endorses Obama

A letter to a very diverse group of people from Wes Clark. I do think that this will help people who might have considered voting for McCain.

There has never been a more important election in my lifetime -- with a war waging, gas prices at record highs, our health care in crisis, and our nation's standing around the world severely diminished.  I spent the last year traveling across the country talking to great Americans in Iowa, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, South Dakota, Indiana and many other places.  They all agree on one thing:  This country needs new leadership, and it's time for change.

Many of you in the Clark community answered the call.  Some of you worked tirelessly for Senator Clinton while others poured hours into Senator Obama's campaign.  You did this because you were willing to sacrifice your time and energy to bring the change we so desperately need.  I can't thank you enough for all you have done.

Now I am asking you to come together and make sure Barack Obama is our next president.  This is a critical mission.

Hillary Clinton ran an amazing race.  She inspired millions.  Our party is a better party because of her campaign, and our nation is a better nation because of her service.  She is and will always be a friend whom I admire.

I congratulate Senator Barack Obama on securing the nomination.  His historic campaign has touched lives and his message has moved people in every corner of America.  I believe he is not only ready for the challenge but will be a great President.

It's time our party comes together to stand behind Senator Obama as we move forward in this election season.  I look forward to doing everything I can to help Senator Obama's campaign.  While I respect John McCain's service, I know exactly what he stands for -- Bush's third term.  America is a great nation, and our people deserve more.  We need Barack Obama to be our next president.

Sincerely,
Wes Clark

Re: Excellent - he is my choice for VP n/t (2.00 / 2)

I adore Clark, as well, but don't think he'll be VP.

First, I don't think he could flip his home state of Arkansas, considering he's more a national figure than a regional one. (I'd love to see this polled, though.)

More importantly, I've come to realize that Obama's not going to pick an obvious military guy; it concedes far too much to McCain. In other words, it would look like "Me + a general = McCain's national security expertise!"

Perhaps someone like Webb, because at least he's now got a little legislative experience of his own. But aside from him, I don't expect a Clark or a Zinni or anyone else who'd be filling the role of real-life G.I. Joe.

Re: Excellent - he is my choice for VP n/t (none / 0)

My concern about the choice of Webb is that it is one more Senator.  I'd rather see someone who is not currently seated in Congress as part of the ticket.

My second choice would be a Governor - which one I'm not sure about.  Was learning towards Sebelius, not because of her Kansas position, but because she is from Ohio, and the daughter of Jack Gilligan. She's also a pro-choice Catholic, which is a plus.

There is also Edwards to consider, and Richardson.

I have heard Rendell's name touted recently, but hopefully he is not on the short list.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

You should include a plug for the Democrats Work (none / 0)

project he is putting on.  Wes Clark is the dean of the liberal military, his support brings a lot of weight behind it in the national security community.

I would be thrilled with him as veep (Along with Clinton, Edwards, and Kaine).  I hope he does get a role in an Obama administration (sec of defense would be fantastic, sec of state would be good).

Kudos to Wes for all the work he did in 2006 helping to elect democrats and the work he has done in 2007 and 2008 for deserving candidates.

here is the link to include:

Still too soon for Secretary of Defense for Wes. 2010 would be the earliest legal time he could legally serve in that capacity. But a link for http://democratswork.org/ is something I was remiss in including!

Wes Clark will have to be vetted (none / 0)

and have to answer questions on pictures taken with General Radko Mladic.  If we are going to put a new face on this country's foreign policy, how do we explain that our VP has buddy buddy pictures taken with the author of the Sebrenicia massacre.  Especially to the muslim world.  It may not be fair, but perception can be reality on the world stage.

WC saved millions of "ethnic" Albanians (none / 0)

Love your tagline. You should have read it before posting. And I'm sure you know what ethnic is the operable code word for, so your "concern" for the muslim word is just more pro-Milosevic slobbering. Clever you are not.
