Until Proven Otherwise, I'll Assume Tom Delay Practices Polygamy

Yesterday on Mike Gallgher's right-wing radio show, Tom Delay made a presumption about Barack Obama (via ThinkProgress):

GALLAGHER: There are reports of dissent within the Obama camp, that they don't want to have a Clinton on the ticket. Listen, if their pride gets in the way, because I'm with ya, I think that they ought to recognize what she could do for them. But if they reject her, I think John McCain -- that's going to be good news for Sen. McCain.

DELAY: Oh I think it's good news for Sen. McCain, the other weakness that he [Obama] has is that nobody knows him. And if McCain does not define him as what he is -- hey, I have said publicly, and I will again, that unless he proves me wrong, he is a Marxist.

GALLAGHER: Yeah, that's, we hear that everyday. Congressman, every day someone will say to me, and I've said it, it's as if this were a guy who's desperately trying to cover up what seems to be the kind of old school Marxist, radical liberal failed ideology.

DELAY: Absolutely.

GALLAGHER: That's what he is.

DELAY: No doubt about it.

GALLAGHER: And John McCain, it's incumbent upon John McCain to point that out because if he doesn't, people are going to get enamored with this guy the way they did.

Huh.

Delay, you'll remember, is the disgraced former Speaker Majority Leader who still faces charges of money laundering and conspiracy to launder money.

And so, unless he proves me wrong, I'm just going to assume Tom Delay practices polygamy. Hunter is even less charitable.

On a more serious note, reading Delay's quote really brought a smile to my face, because it's fun to watch GOP desperation. As a GOP surrogate, Delay probably ranks near the weakest. And I can't imagine charges of "Marxism" have much traction - Delay should have just gone all out and called him a Communist Muslim. From Mexico. No...Iran.

Until Tom Delay can prove otherwise, I am convinced he practices his polygamy with teenagers he picks up from internet chat rooms.

Isn't that how most repugnant ones do it?

Speaker DeLay? (none / 0)

I don't believe Tom DeLay was ever speaker.  I think he was majority whip and then majority leader, but never speaker.

Also, I think it's great that people like De Lay go out and say things like "he's a Marxist" because most people, thinking or otherwise, know that those kinds of statements are just absurd.

And Tom, Marxism is pretty far from liberalism...you're out-of-touch, inane talking points belie how little you and your failed cronies have/had to offer this country.

That would assume more than one woman would marry him.

I think DeLay is a Klan member.  He's never been defined in my state of California.  Until he defines himself to me personally, I think he's a Klan member.

Now the Rightwads want Hillary for VP? (none / 0)

We all know they have the best interests of Democrats at heart.

She should ask creeps like Murdock, Scaife, Limbaugh, Gallager, Cheney, Bush, Rove, McCain, and DeLay to stop doing her so many kind and helpful favors, as they've done as much as anything to sink her boat

But she's never being able to refuse their help.

Do you think he is cheating on your friend, for no reason except the fact that he looks like Delay?  And then you check yourself, but you just can't quite help the initial feeling of distrust whenever you see "Delay"/friend husband?

That would be distracting

Surrogates (none / 0)

The vetting process in the McCain camp must be a little stressed.

Who do they want speaking for McCain?  Of course, McCain is an outstanding speaker in his own right, but he can't be everywhere at the same time (oh, that is were so).  Who can effectively deliver the McCain message?

Bush? Cheney?  Rumsfeld? Delay? Hastart? They're all so busy...What about Foley?  He's not doing much right now.  And Doolittle.  I think he's got a pretty relaxed schedule.  And his wife can probably fundraise for him.

Bob Ney...oh wait.  He's busy.  I know.  Tom Tancredo.  He'd be great.  Alan Keyes can always rev up a crowd.  Come on...there's gotta be someone out there.

Re: Until Proven Otherwise, I'll Assume Tom Delay (none / 0)

i thought this diary is a continuation of that strange one posted by Hunter earlier this morning.

regarding DeLay, it's clear that's his terminology is still stuck in the 90's. It's pathetic to see someone continue talking points that are becoming less and less relevant to most Americans.

It's also ironic that he believes "liberal" policy is proven to be a failure when it has given us huge successes like a cleaner environment, better working conditions and hopefully universal healthcare in the coming decade. What has conservative policy given us besides hate, bloated budgets and stupidity?

What does it tell you about our media that they still give voice to people like Tom DeLay, Karl Rove, William Kristol, et al?

And what does it say about Americans that they tolerate it at best, make it worthwhile for media outlets at worst?

I get what you are saying, but it sounds like you are advocating for censorship.  Everyone deserves to speak their mind... and we have the right to ignore them.

The media gives them an outlet because it gives them ratings - and therefore money.  It's all about the money.

I wouldn't worry about being called a Marxist.  At least half of voters won't know what the hell a marxist is.  A fifth of Americans couldn't find the US on a MAP!!!!!!!  Seriously, How stupid do you have to be to not find your own country.

I'm pointing out that there are A LOT of STUPID people in our country who don't know history or basic geography.  It says something of our education system.  Its insulting to me as an American that fellow Americans are that stupid and that nothing is being done to fix it.

Frankly I find your comment offensive, uncalled for, unnecessary and fairly pointless.

There's a delicious irony here..... (none / 0)

Tom de Lay, Dick Armey, and Jerry Falwell spent the better part of the 1990's harrassing the Clintons, with all kinds of bombastic charges. My favorite was the rumor Falwell spread, claiming that they regularly ran drugs and had people murdered down in Arkansas.

I've said from the beginning of this year's campaign that the Obama people must be taking lessons from Tom deLay. The stuff they dished out was far worse than anything that ever came from "the hammer", but bore an eerie resemblance to it.

So now you all have found each other; have fun, because you deserve each other. Not sure how Tom will get along with "Father" Pfleger, but with all of Pfleger's Hillary-hate, they'll probably become fast friends!

And be careful: remember, there's no honor among thieves.

Why are you fighting BJ's?

by Neef on Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 01:46:42 AM EST

Your question sounds homophobic (none / 0)

BJJ stands for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (for some of us, politics/activism is just one component of our lives; we do other stuff as well)

BJJ involves submission fighting and cage matches, usually with NHB rules. Nothing to do with what you suggest.

But given Barack's one-time friendship with a preacher (no, not Rev.Wright, this time) who claims to have had success offering "the cure" for gay people, I'm not surprised to receive a homphobic question.

The fact that it does (none / 0)

doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on me.

I'm a happily married man, and thus see BJ's as something to celebrate. Thus, fighting them seems...counterproductive.

I would never have expected that to be spun as "homophobic". Amazing, and I mean that.
