Obama condemned Clark, so McCain will play nice?

In response to a direct leading question, Gen. Clark told the truth - - being shot down, held prisoner and tortured makes you a hero but doesn't prepare you to be president.  D'uh.

Within 24 hours, Obama condemns Clark.  Of course, "by condemning Clark's line of argument, the Obama camp is strengthening the McCain camp's ability to suggest that his POW bio does make him more qualified to be president than Obama is. "

Fortunately, all's well that ends well.  McCain will obviously react to Obama's condemnation of Clark be dropping the whole issue.  Right?  Right?

Not so much.

When will Democrats realize that you CAN'T play nice with Republicans?  If you give them an inch, they take a mile.  If you show any weakness, they pounce.  I would have thought, after 2004, our nominees would stop being gracious gentlemen and good sports who always play by the rules and shake hands after losing.

Give me a bad sport and sore loser (no name required) any day.  They admit no foul and play to win.

John McCain says he would stay in Iraq for 100 years? That's crazy talk!

You hit the nail on the head (2.00 / 2)

McCain is going to say "thank you Senator Obama for raising the level of discourse."  His camp is going to continue pushing Clark's statement against Obama.  Since he already threw Clark overboard, Obama cannot come back out and defend him if McCain's camp is successful in pushing this story for the remainder of the week.

I can't believe you people don't get it.... (2.00 / 1)

OMFG, How many diaries are ENOUGH on this tempest in a teapot?

Did you read the link where the McCain is NOT accepting the Obama denial in your TMP central link?

GET IT YET?  They want to drag Obama into it, which takes Wes out of his ability to go straight at McCain?

Obama EMPOWERED Wes by his (non-denial) denial, not the other way around?

Did you notice Wes is getting booked on all the shows?

God, I would think some of you people would figure out how politics is actually played at some point....

Re: Wash, you're saying this is playing out (2.00 / 1)

OK, give it a watch, when Wes is on the stump now.

He has defined the terms, he is getting plenty of air time, it's HIS fight.

Obama, by ONE statement, can just stay out of it.

Sure, McCain today tried to drag Obama back into it, but Obama has already said all he has to say.

We only win when Wes engages McCain on his combat command experience?

And, Obama is NOT the guy to carry that fight?

I think this is playing out exactly as the Obama camp want's it to.

Re: Wash, you're saying this is playing out (2.00 / 1)

Look at Clark's statement to the press. Not a word against Obama. If this becomes one general's crusade against McCain, that hits way harder than any Swift Boaters ever did. McCain can tie Clark to Obama for yesterday, but how can he do it tomorrow after Obama said that he didn't agree with those statements? McCain looks crazy for blaming Obama for this stuff, and Obama gets to just say, "I have nothing but the utmost respect for both John McCain and Wesley Clark's valorous service to our country. I want no part of it."

Obama didn't need to reject anything (2.00 / 2)

Clark just said being tortured does not prepare you for the presidency. He never said it disqualified you for the presidency.

But Obama was quick to throw another ally under the truck.

How's he getting out of this pickle?

Re: Obama didn't need to reject anything (2.00 / 1)

"How's he getting out of this pickle?"

Well, exactly how he did it.

He distanced himself from the part of the fight ONLY Wes can take to McCain, on his military bon a fides.

Now, he can sit back and watch Wes go at McCain?

Just like I am when I Tivo back all the coverage Wes is going to get on the talking head shows?

Re: Obama didn't need to reject anything (none / 0)

But is it really happening that way? Or has Wesley Clark thrown himself in front of the bus to say something that he alone would have the authority to do?

Jesus H. Tubthumping Christ (2.00 / 2)

Look, if you're just going to start copying your own diaries -- sorry, comments; these don't qualify as diaries -- over and over again, I have no choice but to start copying our responses to them:

Get a job, you cute little black rain cloud.  Cheerleading for Obama's failure isn't working out so well for you.
-Spunkmeyer

You don't think, you just try and smear.
-Venician

Claiming that Obama threw Clark under the bus is hyperbole, plain and simple. Gee, I wonder if you have ever been accused of that before?
-MS01

This horse has been beaten so completly, it's down below ground level at this point.
-WashStateBlue

Ah, a new week, new concern trolling. Hell, I expect aliveandkickin to have 37 diaries on the subject today.  So nice to see your exaggeration and strawman-brutalization skills in top form.
-Johnny Gentle Famous Crooner

So stop looking for bad excuses to attack Obama if you're a former Clintonite, or find a GOP blog to do it on if you're a current McCainiac.
-Beren

I disagree with you.  By saying that I disagree with you, I've apparently just thrown you under the bus.
-mistersite

i voted Obama maxed out contribs also to tune of $4700 BUT what I dont get is hes not willing to apprecaite the good woman that McCian's mother is_ ALSO clear to me journos cant put agnets at risk and need to reveal sourcs, but FISA's bad becaus Obama didn't vote it down I mean, because it infringes us __what the fuuu wherz my Coors, mom?!?

Apparently some think ...... (2.00 / 1)

that a million diaries about 'pumas' are in order, but you can only have one diary about how a 4 star general has been 'dissed' by his own party's headliner.

I guess all those whining about multiple diaries are immune to them when they support thier cause.

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?
by emsprater on Mon Jun 30, 2008 at 10:00:58 PM EST

Re: Obama condemned Clark (none / 0)

Nowhere in your diary is there a quote of Obama condemning Clarke. That's because no such quote exists.

Just another bad attempt to help McBush by stirring up trouble among Democrats.

kosnomore (none / 0)

It doesn't matter what Obama (or in this case a surrogate) says or doesn't say, the Repugs will attack him anyway.  They are in permanent 'kitchen sink' mode when it comes to politicking.  If they don't have a molehill to make a mountain out of, they will use an imaginary molehill.

We know this from experience about the Repugs -- they have no scruples and honesty is no friend of theirs.

Re: Obama condemned Clark.. (2.00 / 1)

It just shows what a weak "cave" man Obama is.  He caves on everything.

If Obama truly wants to change things he has to grow a back bone.  He never sticks his neck out and he never stands up.

Obama reminds me more and more of Michael Dukakis every day.

Come on Obama, grow a set!
