Today is the day that our weak nominee smeared a 4 star General who came out to surrogate for him.

Today is the day that tons and tons of people, stopped supporting actively Obama now. They share my fury at his curdling meek smear at Gen. Clark.

Not only Gen. Clark but Moveon.org today. Don't forget the 527's that he decided to dismantle two weeks. They are all gone now.

Our nominee is relying on a 'sophisticated nuanced' strategy that he hopes with a 30% turnout inrease in AA's will carry him to victory in November. That is it folks.

I want a leader with spine and balls and knows how to fight.
Today Obama decided that he would rather smear Gen. Clark than cover for him.
Hillary would never have apologized. Never. She is strong.

Obama has proved to me today that he is weak.

Been away most day. What are we talking about?

When the Wes Clark story broke, I said it was a stupid move/comment by him because it will come back to Obama. I also said that they would come back at Obama with how long you been in Iraq, does this mean your community service means no qualification to be president... blah blah.

I was HR/TR on that comment (wow a surprise , fully expect this one is going to be HR/Tr'd too) and lo behold yesterday I saw the McCain camp using the EXACT same language to hit back.

But what did Obama do today? That has you guys ticked?

Obama never promised strength and fight back. He always promised "post partisan", "talk with your enemy" (as though that hadn't already been tried countless times by people of good will, but no, his inexperienced arrogance has it otherwise), "it's not left or right, it's the past against the future...", he always promised weakness and capitulation on core Democratic Party principles like universal health care, so now you Obama supporters have him trashing MoveOn, trashing Wesley Clark, supporting the rape of privacy and civil liberties on wiretapping, and hiring fewer women and paying them less, etc., and you are stuck with your spineless candidate capitulating on everything you hold dear. Don't say we didn't warn you. True Progressives would have stood against Obama, but no, they rather indulge in a fantasy.

Clinton was the true liberal/progressive candidate, and she proved it by saying what she meant and standing by it. So you twisted her arm behind her back, demeaned and denounced her with flagrant lies about who she is, and now you are stuck with buyer's remorse. What crap.

You can TR me here, HR me here, ban me here. It makes no difference regarding the truth of the damnable, childish disregard for fact and wisdom that this insane American Idolatry over BO has been. You will have to face the consequences of that self indulgence when nothing you believe in is honored by BO, and you get trashed by him in the end. Obama's comment about the betray-us add is no different than Wes Clark's denunciation of that ad. Yet, no one seems to recall that.

And, Clark was right to do so. That ad was just so tacky and idiotic.

Regarding Obama's "rejection" of Clark's statement, first of all, it was technically a statement from Bill Burton, not Obama. So, we still don't have any direct response from Obama, so I think this transparently hyperdramatic outrage is ridiculous.  Secondly, given the press had already framed Clark's statement as an attack on McCain's service, it's not all that surprising that the campaign's default reaction is to create some distance. Personally, I would have preferred the campaign let Clark himself respond and revise the framing before official comment. But, I'm not terribly offended by the statement from Burton because I understand that the campaign just wanted this story to disappear so that Obama's patriotism speech would receive more coverage.

is a little too much; he effectively threw Clark under the bus though by not defending him.

Obama is getting roasted by our friends in the blogosphere; however, this strategy of throwing leftish elements of this party under the bus only works if the American public starting to see him as less of a liberal.  So far, he's stuck in the worst of both worlds: he's actually a "moderate" that gets seen by Americans as politically "liberal."

Um, you're kidding right?

Here's what Obama said today:

"For those like John McCain who have endured physical torment in service to our country -- no further proof of such sacrifice is necessary," Obama said. "And let me also add that no one should ever devalue that service, especially for the sake of a political campaign, and that goes for supporters on both sides."

No one should be dishonoring anyone's service in the military, unless that person did something wrong.

What Wesley Clark said was accurate, what Obama had to do was make it clear that he doesn't in any way dishonor the service of McCain, while at the same time allowing Clark to speak on his own.

Clark wasn't dishonoring or devaluing McCain's service (what the media was trying to push), so Obama had to get in front of the issue quickly.

Actually Clark wasn't far off the mark but it was probably a dumb move saying it. At the end of the day one has to deplore attacks on McCains service. I know the Republicans let this genie out of the bottle by swiftboating Kerry but right is still right. McCain has so many other negs to go after why try to dismiss his service because you know the media and the Repugs were all over this. Obama didn't handle it brilliantly to be honest, he could have lauded McCains service without throwing Clark under a bus. Either way it will be fish wrap in a day or two. People have much more important things to think about.

No matter how right Clark was, this is a battle that Obama - especially because of the craziness about Americans questioning his patriotism - can never win. If he would have supported Clark full bore, then the narrative would have been that Obama was demeaning McCain's POW experience.
