MSNBC: Barack Obama Is Presumptive Nominee

Although South Dakota is too early to call, MSNBC has just declared Barack Obama as the presumptive nominee based on the pledged delegates he will win out of South Dakota tonight.

what Firewall said...yeah, as per my diary from earlier today.  Time to clean house.  No more insulting anti-Obama rhetoric from this point on.  Take it Big Pink or No Quarter, we want this site to be better than that.

Re: MSNBC: Barack Obama Is Presumptive Nominee (none / 0)

Ok, what was up with Tweety's comments?  What are they blathering on out?

Tweety is naming off countries who are seeing a AA man nominated for the first time.. but he mentioned Africa?  Haven't they seen AA men nominated before?

They chatter is just painful.  They seem less than polished tonight for some reason.. even moreso than usual.

They've seen plenty of black people nominated in African countries, but no African Americans (as far as I know)...

It was just a puzzling, mish mashy response to the announcement.  He was rambling on and on about history but he sounded befuddled.  He and Keith make a weird couple - alpha males who seem to cause each other to act dumbed down when they are together.  LOL

Re: MSNBC: Barack Obama Is Presumptive Nominee (none / 0)

There are no African Americans in Africa, besides tourists, diplomats, etc, just like there are no African Americans in Europe, except for, again tourists, diplomats, etc.fromm the U.S.

I would assume that there has never been an American of any variety nominated to run any country except, of course, the U.S.

This may seem dumb, but who is tweety? I'm thinking KO, but I'd like to know for sure. And while I am on the dumb question quest, what do the numbers next to the replies mean and how does one do this? Thanks for your time given to a novice at all of this. BTW I call Wolf Blitzer the cocker spaniel, kinda dumb and awfully earnest.

Re: MSNBC: Barack Obama Is Presumptive Nominee (none / 0)

One of the worst political speeches I've ever witnessed.  How can you get any lower?

The "he'll talk to Iran but not to Petraeus" argument is beyond lame, it's downright stupid.

His arguments about how the "progress" we've seen since we've "changed course" in Iraq wouldn't have happened with a president like Barack Obama, because Obama is just a cut-and-runner ... that shit insults my intelligence.

Even his audience doesn't seem to buy it.  Either that or they're experiencing some flavor of collective narcolepsy.

If I were to offer some free advise to McCain (2.00 / 3)

I'd suggest they might want to think about eliminating stump speeches entirely -- just send out press releases.

If Ronald Reagan was master of the 80s era media, the last of the evenings of network news, and Bill Clinton was the master of the 90s era media, with the dawn of 24 hours cable news -- Barack Obama seems to have mastered the unending and sprawling internet media.

John McCain?  He seems to be mastering the 1930s media... his stump speeches sound like fireside chats.

Dude, you have no clue... If you think that Obama is Dukakis, you haven't been paying attention the past year.  Did Dukakis have 1.5 million donors?  No!  Did he have a 50-state voter registration drive with millions of volunteers?  No.  Did he knock off a former White House resident in the primary?  No.

Have some faith... By the time he's done, he's going to make FDR look like small potatoes.

Woot. (none / 0)

After they won the Eastern Conference Finals, Kevin Garnett was asked how he felt. His response: "Neutral." As the interviewer responded with an incredulous "Neutral?!?", he explained that this was a step towards the final goal.

Afterwards Paul Pierce was shown jumping up and down, cheering, dancing and celebrating and giving the jubilant interview everyone expects athletes to get.

I'm in the Kevin Garnett camp at the moment. It's a great win. It's a huge upset and a triumph. But history doesn't remember the people who win nominations. It remembers the people who win the Presidency. Time to focus on that.

Re: MSNBC: Barack Obama Is Presumptive Nominee (none / 0)

I'm not alone, I know, because several friends and family have told me the same:  They can't in good conscience vote for Obama.  They'll either not vote for a presidential candidate or write someone else's name in, probably Hillary's.  There are several states where you can write in names without any caveats.  But they won't vote for McCain.

There's been a lot of talk that "Hillary supporters"  will vote for McCain if Obama wins, but not a lot of talk about those who won't vote in the presidential general election.  There's a public silence on that issue, but not so silent in personal discussions.

I think it's a sad night; not a night for jubilation.  Maybe jubilation for an instant, but not the long run.
