The Final Countdown

Interesting to see CNN's delegate count showing Barack Obama 4 delegates away from winning. The official Barack Obama count, via press release, shows him 8 delegates away from clinching.

On a somewhat separate topic, I'm intrigued by MSNBC's inclusion of the "popular vote so far (excluding Michigan)" among its graphics tonight. The tally there is 17,428,541 for Clinton and 17,425,810 for Obama, or Clinton ahead by fewer than 3,000 votes. I'd be curious to know where they're getting this number. Real Clear Politics lists the non-Michigan popular vote as Obama with 17,389,253 and Clinton with 17,364,667, or Obama up by almost 25,000. So it would appear that MSNBC intends to inject that metric into tonight's analysis, I'm curious whether Hillary Clinton does as well. Certainly she essentially declared a popular vote victory here in Puerto Rico on Sunday but will she do the same tonight?

Update [2008-6-3 20:37:27 by Josh Orton]: At the Clinton event, the crowd is getting riled up. Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" is playing over the PA, and supporters on the risers behind the podium are chanting to take it to Denver...

Update [2008-6-3 20:43:25 by Josh Orton]: Just now, talking to reporters at the Hillary Clinton event, New York Congressman Anthony Weiner on Clinton as VP: "If she wants it, she deserves it."

There might still be a few more nails to drive into the coffin of her (VP) candidacy.

Hopefully this is the last night I'll see PV spin pushed on the front page.

Yeah, that's a double edged sword. She could say she won't accept it, then when the offer is made publicly accept it. Or should could reject it in a manner that completely disses the nominee.

If it was done right it would be good, but there are so many potential pitfalls... dunno.

Because she thinks she is the only woman politician who can be president.

Seriously, she already 'knows' deep down inside that she's going to be the first female president. Too bad she learned nothing from the primary process, least of which being that voters decide who wins, not the DLC and big-dollar-donors.

It just seems so transparantly  manufactured, perhaps they couldn't stand it that our nominee is in St. Paul, the Rep convention site so they had to do something to talk smack. I guess it'll make both Clinton and Obama look like great orators though.
