And now... on to victory! (Updated)

As I imagine, once the wounds heal, most of you guys are, too.

This isn't a "now we need unity" diary.  We'll get it, for the most part.  It won't be automatic, but Obama will do his best to earn it.

This isn't a "she tried her best" diary.  But she did, and ran one hell of a campaign.  The results could easily have been very different, and that's a credit to her supporters and to her.  When my daughters tell me they want to be president, the first thing that's going to come to mind is going to be the fact that Hillary Clinton nearly was (and may be- 2016 is closer than we think!).

This definitely isn't a "ha-ha told you so" diary, and I hope not to see any.

This is a shout out to all of you.  While it got a little nasty at times, for the vast majority of what was the most intense primary battle we've had in years, I think most of us kept it together.

Democrats had a bad run from 2000-2006, and for a while, I know I felt like someone I wanted in office would NEVER win.  That's why we threw ourselves behind our respective candidates so passionately.  While we disagreed with each other on the why and who, there's zero doubt in my mind that every single person here firmly believed their candidate was the best person to lead this country, and fought for it accordingly.

In the end there can only be one candidate, and tonight it appears we have our answer.   I'm an Obama supporter.  But now, I can be a Clinton supporter too.  Because she's going to do something that is going to catch some by surprise (but not those of us that remember the REAL Clintons)- she's going to take that fight that she used to take this further than any other primary before, and she's going to turn it around on the Republicans.

And I'd hate to be one of them right now.

The sexist media isn't going to go away.  Neither are the racial jokes and monkey t-shirts from our lesser educated countrymen.  But in the end, the combination of the smart and resourceful Obama campaign, the 50 state strategy that has ALREADY started paying off with record voter registration and people who call themselves Democrats, the amazing group of people that worked to get Clinton this far, and the fervent supporters on both sides of the primary battle are going to turn their guns on Mr. John McCain, and man oh man.  That's one hell of team to be up against.

The Republicans are scared.  They're going to throw out Clinton's statements from the primary, Reverend Wright, old Bill Clinton scandals that we all knew were bullshit in 1996, much less 2008, and paint us as liberal, latte-drinking, Prius-driving, Democrats.

But I am liberal.

I love lattes.

And if I had a car, with gas heading to $5 a gallon, a Prius (made in America, don't forget) would sound awfully nice to me.

And I bet once our message gets out there, it'll sound awfully nice to a lot of Independents and Republicans too.

There's one party that can fix eight years of broken economic policy.

One party that can fix eight years of military imperialism and illegal wars, and bring our soldiers home.

One party that can fix eight years of international isolationism.

One party that will stand up for women's rights- not just reproductive, but around the world.

One party that will take health care from luxury to standard of living for all citizens of this country.

One party that will stand up for our gay and lesbian and transgender brothers and sisters, and work towards getting them the equal rights they've been cruelly denied for years.

One party that will make the education system in this country work again, and get us away from teaching for the test and back to the skills that can make us great.

One party that will put this nation on the path away from dependence on foreign oil and subsidized ethanol.

That party is ours.  The Democratic Party.  And Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are proud members of that party.  They've spread our message around the country, and working together, they'll spread it wider.

It'll be a battle, but think of the spoils- a Democratic controlled House, Senate, and White House.   Working together, change will come fast and furious in a way we can't even imagine after the last 20 years. The last eight years will be a distant memory.

Wounds take time to heal, and we've got a little time.  But once they are, it's time for the big fight.  And this one is going to be one HELL of a lot more fun.

ONWARDS!

UPDATED: Did you see that McCain speech? That was horrible. The debate between these two is going to be legendary (and not in the positive way, at least for McCain).

Whatever role Hillary is asked to play, she'll be fighting along side us as one of us through this election season.

I hope her supporters (vs. her "suppoters") follow her lead so we can more forward to take back the White House as well as expand our majorities down ticket.

I think most will.  We've got one or two (or 20) new faces around here lately that seem to have cropped up magically with anti-Dem diaries, couched as anti-Obama, but really.  It's on.

Watching it right now.  What a freaking boring dud.  And he thinks that he is giving a good speech, while looking like an idiot.  I am not quite ready to vote for Obama, and he is going to have to sell me on his readiness and good will through the rest of the campaign, but I would never vote for this joker, instead.

The guy on CNN, the attorney with the curly black hair , just said how horrible McCains speech was.  I agree, but I really don't think it is the media's place to voice their own opinions in quite that explicit  manner. Whoever wins in the fall should win on their own, without the press messing in it like they already have.

Yeah, but they're commentators there, it sucks but it's par.  There's a guy on now defending it (sort of- even the Republican is making fun of them).

News shouldn't have constant commentary.  It should have constant news.
