Why does this man caucus with the Democrats?

Can someone seriously tell me why the Democratic leadership cowers to this man when he says outrageous things like this on TV?

Today on Face The Nation Joseph Lieberman had this to say:

Well I will not write about all the crap that he spouted but I will highlight this part:

"Our enemies will test the new president early," Lieberman, I-Conn., told Face The Nation host Bob Schieffer. "Remember that the truck bombing of the World Trade Center happened in the first year of the Clinton administration. 9/11 happened in the first year of the Bush administration."

<snip>

"Sometimes even the best of them say things that are not what they intended to say," Lieberman said. "Certainly the implications there I know were not what Charlie intended. And he apologized for it. Senator McCain said he didn't agree. And, of course, I feel the same way.

"But here's the point. We're in a war against Islamist extremists who attacked us on 9/11. They've been trying to attack us in many, many ways since then."

So Mr. Lieberman what are you saying that the terrorists will only strike if we elect a Democrat? What if they strike with your bosom buddy in office? Will he able to get off his geriatric chair and do something or will he press the panic button?

So in that scenarion what will he do?

1) Will he invade Iran? Because that is what you want to do. I heard him speaking of al Qaeda losing in Iraq and how Iran is on the back foot but I did not hear one thing about the real threat: The regrouping of al Qaeda and the Taleban in Pakistan. The escalation of violence in Afghanistan and some might even say the loss of Southern Afghanistan to Taleban forces.

2) Will he nuke Pakistan? Because that is where the real threat is and since Pakistan has pretty strong army with nuclear delivery capability how does he plan to handle that?

3) Will he just attack some completely unconcerned country like Syria to prove his bravado?

The problem with blowhards and geriatrics who face softball questions from Bob Schiffer is that they can spout any rot unchallenged.

Now that you have heard our armchair cowboy here is what a Silver Star receiving veteran and Rhodes Scholar sounds like:

"This man" is "Lieberman". If you revise the title I believe you will get more responses than mine on this interesting question.

Excellant diary.

He caucuses with us because we won't have a majority without him.

That being said, his usefulness is nearly at an end.

One thing you have to say about Lieberman is that he never loses his sense of humor.......

Sign our petition today and tell the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Lieberman of his leadership role in Congress. Then, e-mail this video to everyone you know and spread it on sites like Digg and elsewhere.

Recently in Talking Points Memo, Josh Marshall suggested that the best way to limit Lieberman is by encouraging the Steering Committee to render him powerless in 2009. Lieberman must go, and you can make that happen by donating to Brave New Films today.

Yesterday, Lieberman himself responded to the campaign. The Hartford Courant reports:

When asked about the new www.LiebermanMustGo.com Web site, Sen. Joe Lieberman said this afternoon that it certainly had the right to collect signatures demanding he be shoved out of his Democratic Party positions next year. But he said, "I think most people in this country are really tired of this kind of partisan politicking."

So, what's his plan to counter the petition?
Lieberman joked, "I'm not going to sign."

Lieberman is a dangerous and sometimes humorous nut.

Re: (2.00 / 1)

Lieberman is a Democrat on nearly every issue apart from the war. And he's got a chairmanship. It also helps McCain to have him still in the Democratic caucus for maximum bipartisan appearance points.

Thats why he caucuses with Democrats.

We need him to keep the Senate majority.

Having said that supporting John McCain and attacking Obama is totally unacceptable and he should be kicked out either now or after the election. If it was just him being wrong on the war then ok, but its much worse than that.

If Lieberman wants to support a close friend for President then let him, but make sure he pays the price.

JoeMo made a deal with Senate Dems in 2006....they didn't campaign for Lamont and he caucuses with them.

It was a pretty lousey deal since with Democrats stumping for Lamont, a real Democrat would be caucusing with them now.

He caucuses with Democrats (2.00 / 1)

b/c he demands, craves, and begs for attention. The son of a bitch can't handle it when he is not being flattered, courted or at the very least, paid attention to.

Who would pay attention to him if he caucused with a GOP coalition that is all but certain to be severely damaged after election day losing anywhere from 3 to 7 seats?

Endorsing McCain while caucusing with Democrats guarantees him attention from the press and the idiots who wish to fawn over him. That's why he does it.

His only principle is himself. His only care is the feeding of his ego.
