I'm going to punish those misogynistic a**holes and here's how

The lying, undemocratic bastards that stole the Democratic nomination must be punished. We can't let them get away with this. The only way to teach them a lesson is to use our vote. I'm sick and tired of people complaining that those of us that say this are being irrational, so I've detailed below the reasoning behind my decision.

There was rampant misogyny on display throughout the primary campaign. There were hateful things said by talking heads on cable news shows, anonymous posters on the Internet, and some supporters of Obama. Many of these comments were beyond the pale. I am going to punish those people by voting for the candidate of the party that misled us to war under false premises. This war has resulted in more than 4,000 deaths of young Americans and an uncounted number of deaths of Iraqi women and children, but I don't care. The misogynistic comments were far more harmful than the lies that led us to war. How can you possibly ignore some bruised feelings just because some people have died due to GOP lies?

I am going to vote for McCain as a way of punishing the hateful people on MSNBC and CNN and any other network that didn't praise Hillary to the max. The only network that was fair was Fox News. Terry McAuliffe said that and I believe him. So what if Fox called Michelle Obama a "Baby Mama"? She deserves everything she gets. She's not a woman; she's an angry black radical. Besides, who said we had to support all women? I like Fox News, they care a lot more about women's rights than the other networks. Just look at how many good-looking blonde women they have on there, like Ann Coulter.

The evil, undemocratic members of the DNC led by Howard Dean must be shown the errors of their ways. I am going to vote for the GOP candidate, because he is better on the issues that matter to women than the misogynistic Democrats . So what if he called his wife a c*nt and a b*tch? She probably deserved it. Besides, he makes jokes all the time. Remember the time he said Chelsea was so ugly because her father was Janet Reno? That was really funny. I bet Hillary got a big laugh out of that. That's one of the things I love about her, she has such a great sense of humor. I know McCain respects women more than Obama does. Even if he doesn't, I don't care, because I want to punish someone.

I'm sick and tired of people telling me that voting for McCain will mean more conservatives on the Supreme Court. You people should have thought of that before
you made such snide remarks about Hillary. So what if the Supreme Court will work against women's rights? The hurtful things said about Hillary are far more important than Roe v. Wade. I think a random remark by a female radio host is far more important than civil liberties or rulings in favor of corporate interests. People that use Supreme Court appointments as an argument against voting for McCain don't understand what is really important.

This election was stolen from Hillary and, by extension, from me. I will never forgive the Democratic Leadership for following their rules. Those rules were unfair to my candidate. I am going to punish the leaders of the party by voting for the people that really care about democracy in this country. I know, I know, they stole the 2000 election, but that was a long time ago. I forgive them for that. It is far more important to punish the loss of a few delegates that didn't really affect the final outcome of the nominating process. I can do this by rewarding the people who have stolen hundreds of billions of dollars from the American taxpayer.

I'm fed up with you people telling me to calm down and think about this rationally. I am mad as hell and I'm going to get even by voting for four more years of Bush policies. I don't care about the issues. I only care about my bruised feelings. Besides, it's not like McCain's bad ideas will hurt me or my family. Well, maybe a little. Ok, maybe a lot. But I don't care, because I will have had some revenge on anonymous_user_29 from whocares.com. They said Hillary was too much of a centrist and they preferred Obama. That was the most misogynistic thing I've ever heard. The bastard deserves every minute of a McCain presidency for that remark. So do the rest of you 'bots. Hillary 2012!!!!!!

You are right. You don't need to read every word to form an opinion on whether a diary is helpful or not. I shouldn't have replied to your comment in that matter.

Just so you know, speed readers do comprehend and can form opinions.   Many people are speed readers - it is knowing how to skip words like "the, it, of, and" and not having to sound out each word.

I'm a speed reader myself. I've been tested at 800 wpm with 100% comprehension. It doesn't matter whether you read the whole diary or not before forming an opinion on its tone. You could get that from the first paragraph. I've apologized. I would delete my comment or tr it myself if I could. Since I can't, I'll have to let it stand and take the deserved flak I'll get for it.

Re: hmm (none / 0)

Guess I missed the snark in your comments. That's ironic, or maybe hilarious, when the comments were made in a diary that is entirely snark.

The 800wpm number comes from a college application evaluation test many, many years ago. They had me take the test a second time, because they doubted the results since my high school grades were not the best, to put it mildly. I scored about the same on both tests. I started reading before I was three. I read the Iliad and Odyssey when I was nine. I've been in love with reading ever since.

Remember that part of the Iliad that's just a list of the names of all the guys in the battle and who they're descended from (I looked it up -- end of book 2) ?

I can actually remember what my wpm on that part was -- a divide by zero error.

Not nearly as bad as I Chronicles 1-10, though.  That's like memorizing digits of pi, except less interesting.

Re: hmm (none / 0)

I don't know how much of the Iliad is from memories of reading it and how much is from the numerous movies based on it that I've seen since then. It's all mixed up in my memory.

I do know what you mean about all of the 'begats', though. I think the Revelations is the book of the Bible that slowed me down the most. I'd read a sentence and then go, huh?, and have to go back over it.

Strangely enough, I was attending a Lutheran grade school when I first read the Iliad and the Odyssey and I've always thought learning about mythology at a young age had a lot to do with becoming an agnostic/atheist (which one I call myself depends on the weather).

Good Luck (1.50 / 2)

Failure to unite the party and engage in healing and demonstrations of mutual respect are going to cost Dems the election in November.

I say this as a Clinton supporter who has grown weary of being constantly attacked by members of my own party.

I'm nearly past the point of caring what happens this election cycle.  No matter how hard I try to unite and support Obama, it seems impossible for a day to pass when some Obama supporter reminds me of what an ignorant, corrupt, selfish a**hole I was for supporting Clinton in the first place.

I've pretty much come to accept that the party has been hijacked by a younger, less experienced, divisive and hateful group of Obama supporters.  They have nothing in common with the fellow Dems who helped elect Bill Clinton for 2 terms or who helped get Dems elected to local and state office.

Experience has taught me that if these kids manage to get Obama elected, nothing much will be accomplished.  And the odds of them electing him are remote.  I've come to accept that we won't see universal health care, an end to the Iraq War or an improvement in the US economy for at least 4 or 5 more years.

So be it.  I'm enjoying my newfound freedom, spending time with my family instead of campaigning and volunteering; saving my money instead of donating to political campaigns.

When you all grow up and want to start acting like Democrats who build on the party's past policy successes instead of tearing them down, I'll get involved again.

But for now, adios.

by Betsy McCall on Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 03:39:57 PM EST

Re: Good Luck (2.00 / 2)

I can say without rancor or any attempt to be divisive that you are wrong on at least one of your points. There are many supporters of Obama who are not young and inexperienced. My first campaign involvement was when I was in high school in 1964. I was a member of the Young Dems. I was an Edwards supporter at the beginning of this cycle. I am now an Obama supporter. My goal is to help elect a Democrat to the White House and to get a stronger majority in both houses of Congress.

On your first point about failure to unite the party, have you done anything to foster unity or is that effort only supposed to come from the other side?

You say you are constantly being attacked by members of your own party. Do you feel my comments to you in this post are an attack?

Thank you!

I have resigned from the Democratic Party because of the anti-democratic manner in which the primaries were held and the cavalier shifting of votes at the RBC Committee.  I am pissed beyond measure at the sexism and general lack of respect for Hillary Clinton and her supporters in the media and in the netroots.

Nevertheless, I am still planning to vote for the Democratic nominee.  But every time I read a diary like this one, or every time I get called a racist on this site, I wonder if I can keep my resolve.

Re: Couldn't have said it better! (2.00 / 2)

But every time I read a diary like this one,...

There are many Hillary supporters who claim they will vote for McCain as a way of punishing the Democratic party and leaders. There are groups and web sites devoted to that cause. The people that frequent those web sites and hold those beliefs come on here and make their intentions known. We even have a diary that was written today justifying that attitude. We see PUMA members all over the cable news channels and quoted in newspaper articles. Do you really think those people don't exist? Do you think this is something that should be tolerated or encouraged?

I congratulate you on the maturity you show by saying you will vote for the Democratic nominee in this election. This diary is not aimed at you. It is aimed at those people who have openly declared that they will vote for McCain because of slights they have received from fellow Democrats.

But, respectfully, I think you would be better advised to stop taunting and mocking Clinton supporters, even those who are threatening to vote for McCain.  It's a long way until November and minds will be changed.  But they won't be changed by haranging and finger shaking.

Clinton voters have real grievances and the more these grievances are marginalized and ridiculed, the deeper they are felt.

Did you not ever learn this? (2.00 / 1)

You attract more bees with honey than with vinegar.

Your "snark" is hurtful and paints with a broad brush.  I have said, and many like me have said, I will vote for the democratic nominee no matter who it is. I said it from the time I began blogging.  I started on dkos so you can look there.....
and I have said it here.  Do the research.

People like me, who WILL vote for the dem candidate, in this case Obama, are just sick and tired of the attacks.  I am still angry about the primaries; I still feel some of the left blogs were as bad as the MSM when it came to sexism and personal vendettas against Hillary Clinton. I also believe they had a field day with personal nastiness to my other choice (John Edwards....I gave equally to John and Hillary and supported both).

But your nastiness, the attacks on left wing sites of anyone who supported Hillary is not helping. It is hurting and making things worse. I have never seen or gone to a PUMA site or Hillary44 but I am beginning to think I should.  Is that what you want...to send people like me to them?  You imply our anger is irrational, unfair and unacceptable. That is not a good stance.  Let us work our way out of it....don't continue this trend.

Re: Did you not ever learn this? (2.00 / 2)

It's difficult to answer this without appearing to be blaming the victim, but what you say here misses the whole point of the diary. You are finding insult where none is intended. This diary is not about people like you who are still angry about the primary. This diary is about people who say they will vote for McCain as a way to punish the party. Nowhere do I imply that this applies to all Hillary supporters and nowhere do I imply that all Hillary supporters are saying this. It is specifically targeted at people who think there will be no consequences if they vote for McCain as a form of protest. It shows the absurdity of that belief.

Feelings are still raw and people are quick to take offense where none is intended. Calling out obvious trolls does not imply that anyone who has reservations about Obama or who makes a negative comment is a troll. Pointing out the absurdity of voting for McCain when he stands for all of the wrong things and will cause damage to our country is not saying that anyone who supports Hillary is wrong.

That being said, I find it interesting that so many people that complain about being harassed and intimidated by Obama supporters for being critical of Obama object to any criticism of anti-Democratic posters even when that criticism isn't aimed at them.

But for those who feel marginalize, feel ignored, feel betrayed you are making things even more negative for them.

Re: But what is your point.... (none / 0)

We differ on this point. I don't believe everyone that is siding with PUMA and like groups is a lost cause. Reason doesn't seem to be working. Hillary telling her supporters to support Obama doesn't seem to be working. Gestures of unity from the Obama camp don't seem to be working. Ridicule and satire can be powerful tools. Maybe some of them can be reached this way.

Reaching the most hardcore of these groups isn't the  only goal of this diary. I'm also hoping to reach people who haven't completely bought into their hype by showing the silliness of PUMA's stance.

These people are getting all sorts of free publicity and are given a forum by the news media for spreading their hate. I will not sit back and let them go without challenge.

Every day Obama supporters (as well as his campaign) tell Clinton supporters in so many words they are not welcome.

Sorry, but women's issues, health care reform, a strong economy and getting out of Iraq are important to us.

Dem women who supported Clinton are much wiser and more experienced in politics and public policy. We don't drink the kool aid or bow to peer pressure like young folks.

Don't be confused about Dems like myself who say they'll vote for Obama in November.  We may vote for him, but we won't donate, won't campaign, won't volunteer.

Obama needs to make a substantive effort to reach out to these voters with a dialogue that's based on real issues.  Or don't.  That's his choice.

All I've heard from Obama since the end of the primaries is praise of Clinton and calls for unity. These have been spurned by many Clinton supporters as inadequate. What is it you want. You personally. What would  you like to see Obama do or say that would make you less angry?

BTW, the insults seem to be coming more from you than the Obama supporters on here that are trying to engage you. "kool aid" drinkers, indeed. I am a 61 year-old ex-Edwards supporter, yet you imply that I am an inexperienced child with no judgment then you act like we are insulting you.

Re: where is that (2.00 / 2)

I don't have a group. I'm also not anyone's monitor.   You sure don't have any room to complain about ratings abuse. You have tr'd and hr'd me for perfectly reasonable responses. You have also insulted me personally and referred to me using several offensive names then turned around and tr'd me. You have said that you were Mary and I was your lamb. You have offered me crap from your toilet. You come into any diary I write and immediately try to disrupt the discussion by tossing out baseless claims of abuse. I have never responded in kind. I have frequently refrained from tr'ing you for many of those comments. The worst I have accused you of is being a troll and for acting immaturely. You have shown those accusations to be accurate in our, far too frequent, exchanges.

The thing that should actually worry you is when "we" start tuning you and Obama out.  Just sayin'.

Huh? (2.00 / 1)

Care to expand on that a little?

Just let it go.  There's nothing I can think of that any Obama supporter is willing to say that will do you/him any good.

And therein lies the problem.

It's over lady (none / 0)

Carmella was not impressed with all the kissing, laughing and whispering that Hill and Bam were diligently doing for the cameras, so that the moment could produce, as Obama press aide Robert Gibbs put it on "Larry King Live," "a great picture."

When it was Obama's turn to speak, Carmella announced loudly, "I wish I had ear plugs." Then, as Obama tried to ingratiate himself with the Hillary partisans in the crowd by saying that because of the New York senator, his daughters "can take for granted that women can do anything that the boys can do and do it better and do it in heels," Carmella put her fingers in her ears.

As Obama tried to curry favor with Hillary, looking over at her sensible, sturdy shoes and marveling, "I still don't know how she does it in heels," Carmella tore up a tissue and stuffed it in her ears.

Afterward, Carmella got her idol to autograph her sign, telling the smiling Hillary, "You're going to be the next president."

She told The Times that she and her friends were all voting for John McCain and that Hillary was just doing what she had to do.

this diary is right on the mark. The reasoning is completely irrational. In fact there is no reasoning other than a desire to get back at the dem party, the media and??? fill in the blank. It is a classic cut off your nose to spite your face.
