So, I'm in the process of posting my diary on Booman and Joe Klein, getting it right on Israel and Iran, and I see that Chimpy just declared a national emergency with regard to North Korea. SEE: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/06/20080626-4.html. I guess if you throw enough shit up on the wall, eventually, some of it will stick. Hopefully, not.
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.) (IEEPA), the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.) (NEA), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code,I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, find that the current existence and risk of the proliferation of weapons-usable fissile material on the Korean Peninsula constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat. I further find that, as we deal with that threat through multilateral diplomacy, it is necessary to continue certain restrictions with respect to North Korea that would otherwise be lifted pursuant to a forthcoming proclamation that will terminate the exercise of authorities under the Trading With the Enemy Act (50 U.S.C. App. 1 et seq.) (TWEA) with respect to North Korea.
Meanwhile, back in the sane world...
Here's what I was going to post, originally:
(I don't know about you, but I'm sick and tired of being lied to by a bunch of warmongering neocons! These guys seem hellbent on getting us into World War III, no matter what it takes. It scares the shit out of me. What about you?)
BOOMAN AND KLEIN GET IT RIGHT ON ISRAEL AND IRAN!
Democratic triangulation at its very best!
Over the past day, we now have some stunningly awesome triangulation from both Joe Klein (of all people) and Booman, echoing this diarist's sentiments about everything that's soooo wrong with the Lieberman-led neoconservative/far-right-Christian-zion ist/Rethug sentiments concerning support for Israel and conflating it with their mantra as to why we should go to war with Iran.
Read Booman's greater-than-great diary right here, entitled: Joe Klein, ADL, AIPAC and Foreign Policy for the real deal with regard to where the majority of Jewish Dems really stand on these matters, today!
This is a true "Man Bites Dog" story about cogent and rare issues consensus within our Party! Bigtime kudos to Booman's bigger-than-life magnanimity for coming out in support of none other than Joe Klein, as they mutually rip everyone a new butt-hole for talking out of both sides of their mouth on Israel, Iran and peace in the mideast!
This is at the heart of everything that's wrong with the Freedom's Watch issues platform--and, by default, the massive 527/501(c)4 forces at work from the far right in support of the GOP agenda this cycle.
Booman sums it all up quite nicely at the very end:
The worst error in all of this is the idea that attacking Iran will actually serve Israel's interests. Did attacking Lebanon serve their interests? Did attacking Iraq serve their interests? The answer is no. What's at issue here is more than appearances. There is a lobby for hijacking American foreign policy in the interests of Israel's foreign policy, and that lobby is incredibly effective. And the problem is worse than a divergence between America's and Israel's interests. This policy doesn't serve either country's interests. Most American Jews will tell you that.
So, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan...pick a war...any war...Like I said, I don't know about you, but I'm really scared and concerned about what's going to happen on the world stage between now and Election Day.
UPDATE: Here's the link to the Booman piece, again...some people have reported problems with it. It's right on Booman's front page as I post this update. http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2008/6/27/122849/872
