Updates from my PUMA safari

Update [2008-6-28 13:12:9 by McTrollop]:I am sorry this light effort made the rec list, but thanks!

I just returned from a free PUMA safari, and it was awesome. I found out that many on this safari were never really big supporters of HRC, and are now rationalizing their confusion with the New York Senator. I know I am going to get blasted . . . if anyone even reads this, BUT I do think it is important to cover all our bases in this election. That means keeping tabs on NQ, His44, and the new home for our favorite boycotter of DKOS. This is important, because if they are working against the idea of President Obama . . . then they are working for a President McCain.

Here are some samplings of what I bagged on the safari:

. . .I'm not done fighting for my party - not even close.  I will not let a bunch of thugs and bullies chase me away from something I've fought loyally and passionately for these past 35 years or more.

But unless Obama, Howard Dean and the rest of our so-called Party leadership wise up and make it clear that Hillary's name will be put up for nomination, and that a roll call vote WILL be held at our convention, they may find that more than 24% of us refuse to back Obama if he comes out of Denver as our nominee. . . . (Foreman)keeps talking about Hillary's loss in this election but last time I checked, we still need to make things official at a little thing called a convention in August.  Until then nobody's got this nomination locked down.- June 27-28

I know am bound to get some "ignore her" diary responses, yet I think this is important. The individual quoted above is extremely talented, and IMHO was the #1 advocate for HRC in the amateur netroots. I just wish this blogger that said she was "a life-long Yellow Dog Democrat and . . . always be a Democrat" would continue to use her skills to at least advocate against McCain, if not for Obama.

I am ready for my beating, but I thought I would leave you with an image of a PUMA getting radio-collared for it's own protection. Read about it here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4677182/

consider reading TexasDarlin on Obama's birth certificate.

It's really very funny - great self satire.

I had a debate with a lady the other day that swears Hawaii Birth certificates are illegitimate, because they do not have the Doctor's signature. UMMM OKAY?!

I was like . . . my kids BCs from AZ, IL, CA do not have Docs sig . . . those are on the unofficial hospital birth records.

Re: For entertainment value (none / 0)

Geez Veteran, I know it might be against the rules for me to say this, but I can't help but wonder what type of person has so many illegitimate children - and in so many states too!  I don't want to be judgemental, I'm just concerned that some of the dedicated & diligent pumy bloggers out there would use you as an example of the questionable moral rectitude of all Obama supporters. I worry about the number of deeply detailed darlin diaries that could be drummed up and doled out daily, all of them ferreting through the illegitimacy of your kids' unsigned records.  I despair that they'd then follow things to their logical conclusion and question how anyone with so many illegitimate children could possibly be considered a legitimate voter.  This would naturally lead to daily doses of dreadful data dumping on the dems.

Now the "demand" is to have her name put up for nomination. Out of respect, of course. The instant that happens, mark my words, the convention devolves into a floor fight. Her rabid supporters, numerically outnumbered and O-so heartfelt, will grab every spotlight they can, we'll be treated to Slick Willy attempting to wade back into it with his Elder Statesman routine, and they will all do their level best to negate as much post-convention bounce as possible, all with an eye on 2012. The only purpose the worst of these folks serve at this point, frankly, is amusement.

If only there was some way to triage this so they couldn't infect others?  I'm not too worried about it, though.  The nuttier they get the less and less appealing they become.  As I've already demonstrated, the Republicans are having a hard time working with them.

So sad.  Rebels without a clue.

Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like her, (2.00 / 2)

and I don't have much tolerance for PUMA. I just have a soft spot for alegre. I admired her work in the beginning. She lost perspective, and she's not doing what Hillary asked. But I know she loves Hillary, and unless I'm much mistaken, it's because Hillary pushed legislation that ended up helping her young son, who had some sort of disability. I can understand why she cares so much, though she's no longer helping her candidate.

I'm sure the diarist could of found a more inlammatory and funny quote from other PUMA's if he had wanted. Pagan Power and SusanHu are batshit INSANE. Universal is way beyond that. On a level of crazy and deranged all to himself.

Alegre is just run of the mill in this specific group and not top dog like she was before. Instead of being THE Hillary supporter she is just another PUMA. You can tell her by her writing that her heart is no in it.

Sad.

And I agree with you about TD, Universal, Pagan Power, and SusanHu. It's really only alegre I feel bad for. I just sense that this isn't the person she really is. She just got too caught up -- I've been there, too, though I got over it more easily. Then again, I didn't invest as much in Hillary's campaign as alegre did (and I mean her time more than money).

I would love to have a serious conversation with someone like that. I just looked at her blog and the banner says something about "Hillary being heard... OUr voices being heard...."

I am genuinely confused by this. The underlying argument seems to be that Clinton voters should have more of a say than the rest of us. 1.25 votes to my one.

I genuinely want to know how people like alegre think they haven't been "heard". My first choice in a non-Gore primary was Edwards. He didn't get as many votes as Clinton and Obama.

On one level, I agree with you. (none / 0)

But on another level she's working against the acknowledged presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party, and thus she is the opponent of Democrats.  Given that she still has some influence (albeit not nearly as much as she did when Sen. Clinton was still in the race), I think there's a level at which what she says needs to be countered.

Moreover, I think it's very easy for Clinton supporters (whether or not they support Obama now that he is the presumptive nominee) to not see the extent to which Alegre became a ringleader for a very offensive wing of Clinton supporters who continually trashed, in the most vile and insulting terms, not only Sen. Obama but also his supporters.  There's a lot of bad blood there, and the fact that she hasn't committed to supporting Obama as Sen. Clinton has simply confirms in the minds of many Obama supporters (whether rightly or wrongly) that she doesn't have the best interests of the Democratic Party or the progressive movement at heart.

In other words, Alegre chose early on in this campaign to become a figurehead for Clinton's supporters in general, and as such in the past few weeks has become a symbol for those Clinton supporters who have let their anger (whether well-placed or misplaced) over Sen. Clinton's not winning the nomination overwhelm their commitment to the Party and the cause of progressivism.

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (2.00 / 1)

It seems like Alegre is having a difficult time reconciling the reality of Obama's inevitable nomination with her fantasy that Hillary is still running.

Last time I checked, we still need to make things official at a little thing called a convention in August.  Until then nobody's got this nomination locked down.

Alegre,  Sat Jun 28, 2008

I will say one thing - he's an even bigger fool than I could ever have imagined if he doesn't choose Hillary as his running mate.

Alegre,  Fri Jun 27, 2008

I wonder how she would react if Obama offered Hillary a VP slot before August. Would she be excited for a unity ticket? Or would she blast Obama for presuming he's already the nominee?

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (2.00 / 0)

HRC is going along to be a good sport.

Hillary isn't going along to be a good sport, she's supporting Barack Obama because the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.

You can act like spiteful children and vote against your own self interests the way Republicans do, or you can help us win.
It's up to you.

Millions? Try the few hundred sad pieces of crap who visit these sites.

If anything, your blatant lunacy has driven a few thousand to support Obama out of fear of being associated with you.

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (none / 0)

20% plus of Clinton voters equals millions in my book.  I can tell you even anecdotally that I know several longtime Democrats who will not vote for Obama.  The media loves to marginalize us but we won't go away.

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (2.00 / 0)

Odd, I once knew several long time Democrats who became Republicans after the Civil Rights Act.

Did they switch back before you met them?

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (2.00 / 1)

Glad you'll show those darn media celebrities!

I've got the radio turned on. President McCain is about to give his first press conference after his inauguration earlier in the week. They're saying he's planning on talking about his legislative initiative for the first hundred days, but that's okay.

I mentioned I'm driving; it's expensive. Gas prices are now over five bucks a gallon and going higher. McCain in his inauguration announced a bold new initiative to lower gas prices -- building a long-term base in Iraq, near the border with Iran.

Ther's nothing better than getting back at the people who made your life a living hell.  Jam it to them, I say!

Hey, if my son will be fighting age during McCain's tenure, so what?  I'm OK with nursing him for the rest of his life when he gets our of Walter Reid with the bullet still lodged in his brain.  Every parent likes the idea of their children never leaving home, and if it makes Olberman suffer then so be it!

The press conference comes on. The first question is about reports that one of the liberal members of the Supreme Court is in poor health and is about to retire. McCain wishes the justice well, and promises to seek a replacement that is in keeping with the constitutional traditions of the country.

I figure he means someone to the right of Roberts and Alito. Something like that.

My daughters will go through puberty during the McCain era, but it's all good.  Young parenthood teaches tough lessons that will serve them well in life, and as one of the fortunate who will probably be able to afford the short trip to Mexico we can still get an abortion if we need it.  The instruments will probably be sterile, anyway.

Anything to make Matthews cry, is what I say! Got get'em, you Handsome Gent, you!

Maybe in part because of my apathy, John McCain won the November election.

But that's okay -- because I sure showed Barack Obama.

And now he's the one paying the price.

Frickin' A!

Hey, and if I run into you on the street and we get to talking and realize we discussed this, here, way back when, and I snap under the realization that you actively worked to leave Donna and I to spoon feed our son into our elderly years, that you labored to let our daughter bleed to death in a Tijuana back-alley "clinic", that you strove to leave our surviving daughter to drop out of school to work in a McDonald's to help her parent's pay their bills - it will be nothing to pay for the joy of seeing those media folks blush with the realization of how foolish they were.  I'll probably get out in a few years and can get back to helping Donna change Damien's diapers again, anyway.

God damn that Obama Man.

At any price.

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (2.00 / 1)

Interesting post I just read at the WA PO (and haven't independently verified).  Doesn't seem unlikely though. Dirty tricks R Rove

"It's funny how these so called "fierce" Clinton supporters never gave a dime to her campaign. Go to the FEC website and do a search for Diane Mantouvalos's contributions. Nada.

Try a search for Darragh Murphy, founder of PUMA PAC, and what do you find? Surprise! The only donation she has ever made was to John McCain ($500 in 2000).."

I gave HRC 500 dollars, too bad you couldn't look me up.

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (2.00 / 1)

You are missing the context, which was unclear.

"Fierce Hillary supporters" was a clumsy choice of phrase by the writer, when what he was talking about was lead organizers of this PUMA thing.

He or she was suggesting that they might just be McCain operatives, not that Hil didn't have genuine fierce supporters.

You know ..... (2.00 / 1)

if we all stopped the talk and the comments about them and the 'safaris' over to 'visit' their sites, the 'pumas' would simply tumbleweed off into the sunset.

What good does it do us to spend so much time and energy on whining about a few folks who simply will not let go of the corpse?

I only have one issue with PUMA et. al. (2.00 / 1)

McCain? WTF? Even in my most deranged "I will never ever vote for Hillary Clinton" moments, I never ever considered voting for McCain. Not voting the top of the ticket or writing in Obama, yeah, but voting for McCain -- no frakkin way.

And not only do they talk about voting for McCain as a protest vote but they talk like they actually like and support him. This is where they totally lose me. There is absolutely nothing rational about these people right now.

One more thing... (2.00 / 1)

Even in my wildest anti-Senator Clinton stages, I never relied on Counterpunch, World Net Daily, and other right-wing smear machines for my disinformation.

Re: Updates from my PUMA safari (2.00 / 1)

Here's where you're wrong. Everyone over 18 gets a vote who wants one. They get theirs. You're talking about monitoring them? Who are you to do that? You vote for Obama. I'll vote for Obama, and they can vote for whoever they like. This is America. Give it a rest.

WOw. Alegre's kind of crazy, isn't she? No one was stronger for HRC than I was, but Hillary conceded defeat.
