Not Just Unity::Hillary and Bill Put Their $$$ In It Too!

As we all know by now, Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, gave $4,600 to help retire Senator Clinton's outstanding debt. The New York Times's blog The Caucus just reported that:

This just in: Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and former President Bill Clinton each contributed $2,300 to Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign. They made the donation today.

After Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton were finished speaking here, the contributions were announced to reporters by Jamie Smith, a spokeswoman for Mrs. Clinton. The news comes one day after Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle, announced that they had each contributed $2,300 to Mrs. Clinton to help retire her campaign debt.

As we saw today, Senator Clinton is committed to helping Senator Obama get elected to the White House in 2008, and her words today in Unity, New Hampshire, proved that. I'm proud of Senator Clinton and of Senator Obama as well. They make me proud that I'm a Democrat, and that the Democratic Party fielded such historic candidates this year.

Re: Same here. (2.00 / 2)

I followed their lead as of tonight - 50 dollars to both campaigns.  Which isn't much, but there's more coming.

as a symbol for getting Obama to be the 44th President.

Re: Not Just Unity::Hillary and Bill Put Their $$$ (2.00 / 10)

I said it on the live thread, and I'll say it again (because I'm vain and people liked the comment - and also because it's true)

This is an amazing moment. And unexpectedly moving

I don't feel like a wound has been healed. I feel like a family has been reunited.

I feel that way about a lot of Hillary supporters here too.

Kudos to you all. You know who you are.

It is like watching your family, ain't it? (2.00 / 6)

Rec'd as well...

I guess I would have had a period of mourning and anger had Obama lost...

And, I can surely see how women feel slighted by the turn of events.

But, for the life of me, voting for the party of David Vitter?

The party of Karl Rove?

Dick Cheney?

How can you watch these people on that stage, and plan to vote for the party of George Bush?

Is that the new acronym?  LASU?  It's still not as good as UMA.  Have you tried contacting her rep yet?

this is huge! (1.00 / 1)

Now if they'd put real money into retiring their debt instead of demanding Obama waste time kissing up to their big donors they'd be on the right track.

And then Obama could rightly say that his donors would be crazy to retire debt accrued after Clinton lost but kept campaigning unless his supporters had already hit the max for federal candidates, the max for the DNC, DSCC, DCCC, DLCC, DGA and the max for every state party.

Instead the Clinton's put in less than 1/2000th of what they put into their campaign. And this was worth a diary? And people rec'd it?

Re: this is huge! (none / 0)

Whether or not the diary is worth being rec'd, it is a fascinating demonstration of how much people love symbolism.  The Clintons' donation is only giving back the $4,600 that the Obamas donated to Hillary's campaign yesterday... which makes both donations meaningless.

So basically it cancelled out?
Each contributed an identical amount to the other.
