Standing Ovation for Hillary, Bill supports Obama

Senator Clinton walked back to Senate amongst standing ovation from her Senate colleagues. "Clinton gave a short speech saying she was glad to be back and planned to do everything she could to help Obama win the White House and Democrats win races across the country."

The fallen front-runner -- now simply New York's junior senator -- walked into the Democrats' weekly caucus lunch to a forks-on-glasses serenade and standing ovation from 40 Senate colleagues.
"Glad to be here, my friends, glad to be here," Clinton said as she made her way past a greeting party of interns from her office and well-wishers on the Capitol steps.
Clinton, who will appear at her first joint public rally with presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama in Unity, N.H., Friday, is learning to face life as a senator after seven years as a candidate and candidate-in waiting. She took her first steps toward the commonplace Tuesday afternoon, telling caucus members she planned to be an active advocate for their agenda and promising to campaign for Democratic candidates around the country if called upon.

Bill Clinton extended his full support today to Senator Obama's campaign promising to do everything to help Obama win the Presidential election.

Bill Clinton extended his support to Obama for the first time Tuesday in a one-sentence statement from spokesman Matt McKenna.
"President Clinton is obviously committed to doing whatever he can and is asked to do to ensure Senator Obama is the next president of the United States," McKenna said.

Despite all the negativity in the reports and efforts of media to portray Clintons as poor losers and manufacture fissures within Democratic party, it is clear that the Democratic party is getting unitedly behind Senator Obama. It is also clear that HRC and Bill C. are rapidly joining forces with Senator Obama to help him win the White House during November election.

It is time for us, all of their supporters to follow their example and support Senator Obama.

Re: United party ....comment away.... (2.00 / 5)

In all honesty --I was looking for a more stronger statement from Bill.  To me it was luke warm , standard statement.

I  still see him hurting... he took being framed as racist real bad. And I agree_ it got way out of hand.

Re: United party ....comment away.... (2.00 / 4)

Give it little time, Bill would work his heart out for Obama's campaign in anyway Obama would solicit his help.

wat do you expect.. being labeled as racist is worst than being labeled as child molester in america.. and then we ha this from michelle obama.. and I quote

"We must do it in the face of those who will attempt to play on those emotions for our own purposes, to discourage us from believing what is possible...to dismiss this moment as an illusion, as a fairytale."

No doubt.  It wasn't just Bill, either.  I took it very personally and I will not forget it - to be on the receiving end of a terrible injustice, from the people you thought were your friends and allies - you do not forget.  I think many of my fellow Hillary supporters feel the same.

I don't feel the same (2.00 / 1)

and I am a fellow Hillary supporter. People are imperfect. It's what makes them so like the rest of us. I try to piece kids back together again after they have shot or stabbed or just had a serious disagreement with someone else - sometimes people they love. It's amazing what people will accept an apology for. But no one likes a forced or fake apology. I think Barack has really been very respectful and sophisticated in trying to restore his friendship with Hillary after a very bruising battle. Although I agree that there were some things said that burned my skin, one or two of them came from the Clinton campaign. So I forgive everyone who misbehaved or mispoke. Because tomorrow millions of Americans will depend on each other to live, eat, protect each other and create a more perfect union. Family fights can get really nasty because other family members know just what to say and do to provoke or anger each other. I don't forget. But I forgive, and live the next day because these are my brothers and sisters. We got a lot out in the open and we'll deal with that together. In the meantime we got a brand new bus. I'll save a seat just for you.

AWESOME! (2.00 / 5)

Thanks, Louis! I'm SO glad to see Hillary greeted so warmly by her Senate colleagues. And oh yes, I can hardly wait to see Bill & Hillary light up the campaign trail with Barack & Michelle. That would be amazing... And it would be the final nail in McBush's political coffin! :-)

No way, no how, no McCain! :-)

Re: AWESOME! (2.00 / 3)

Thanks atdleft. It is absolutely clear that HRC and Bill are going to work for Obama's win in any way Obama's campaign would seek their help. It is time for us to turn our attention to McCain's campaign and the extreme rightwing agenda. Today I read James Dobson was slamming Obama over a speech he gave on 2006. The rightwing idiots are running scared at the monstrous election loss that they would face in November hence grasping for last speckle of straws..

But Hillary will have to work hard (2.00 / 1)

to regain the respect of her colleagues, right? Because Hillary had the audacity to stay in the race and not drop out?

Or was that a load of B.S.?

Excellent diary, gracias! (2.00 / 4)

So glad to see Bill preparing to give his full support to Obama, and Hillary damn well deserved that standing ovation!

I commented a few days ago (2.00 / 4)

that I hoped they would give Hillary a standing O when she returned to the Senate.  Glad to see that's what they did.

The woman is a veritable fountain of energy.  She and I are about the same age (she's a little older) and I would have dropped out of that marathon primary months ago from sheer exhaustion.  I am in awe.

Good foresight..agreed HRC is (2.00 / 3)

simply a "fountain of energy" and tireless worker for public service...

Re: I commented a few days ago (2.00 / 4)

A fountain of energy indeed. Your description of Hillary is evocative of a quote from Virgina Woolf's "To the Lighthouse."

Mrs. Ramsay...seemed to raise herself with an effort, and at once pour erect into the air a rain of energy, a column of spray, looking at the same time animated and alive as if all her energies were being fused into one burning and illuminating (quietly though she sat, taking up her stocking again)...

The omnipotent Mrs. Ramsay is certainly an appropriate comparison. However, the other half of this quote is oddly suggestive of the outcome of the primary.

...and into this delicious fecundity, this fountain and spray of life, the fatal sterility of the male plunged itself, like a beak of brass, barren and bare.(270)

Regardless of my odd rant, rock on Hillary and go Barack!!

Re: Standing Ovation for Hillary, Bill supports Ob (2.00 / 1)

and Barack has kicked in a very huge amount of money to retire Hillary's campaign debt. That's the kind of unity that makes Republicans feel very sick.
