Calling All Impeachment Supporters!

If you are a registered Democrat, living in New York State and believe that Bush and Cheney deserve to be impeached, this may be your last, best chance to get action. Adam Sullivan is challenging Rep. Jerrold Nadler for the right to represent the people of New York's 8th Congressional District.

Adam Sullivan is a theater artist who has been living and working in the 8th CD for the past eleven years. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Brandeis University in 1991, and hails originally from Hartford, Connecticut. Adam grew up in a politically active household: his mother was an activist, his stepfather a Connecticut State Senator. In his youth he worked on the landmark mayoral campaign of Thirman Milner, Hartford's (and New England's) first African-American mayor, and marched on Washington alongside veteran peace and justice advocates including Jesse Jackson and Pete Seeger. After a long political hiatus, he returned to activism after the 2000 election fiasco.

Like millions of his fellow citizens, Adam Sullivan became outraged at the lies, corruption and incompetence of the Bush administration. He became a member of AskNadler2Impeach.org which was formed by neighbors in the 8th CD to put pressure on the congressman to support the call for impeachment hearings. Nadler is a member of the House Judiciary Committee which has original jurisdiction over the bills introduced by his colleague Dennis Kucinich to impeach Dick Cheney and, more recently, Bush himself. Over 2295 people have signed AskNadler2Impeach's petition. The organization also sponsored a Town Hall discussion on impeachment in March where speakers included Bruce Fein, Elizabeth Holtzman and Scott Horton. Rep. Nadler was invited to attend but chose not to make an appearance (for info about obtaining a DVD of the event email info@asknadler2impeach.org).

Adam Sullivan, AskNadler2Impeach and citizens across this country believe that when Jerrold Nadler took an oath to "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion" it meant something. Public servants like Nadler, John Conyers and Nancy Pelosi should not be permitted to shirk a duty they owe the country because it might prove to be politically inconvenient. There is more at stake here than the near term political fortunes of the Democratic Party. No elected official should be allowed to flout the law the way Bush and Cheney have. No president or vice-president should be allowed to express the kind of contempt for the American people and a co-equal branch of government that Bush and Cheney have been permitted to express.

The Sullivan campaign feels that if enough pressure can be brought to bear on Jerrold Nadler, by running a primary challenge in his district, he will have no choice but to join the growing number of colleagues who are calling for an impeachment investigation, thereby leading to further defections from the "impeachment is off the table" line that Conyers and Pelosi will not be able to ignore.

If you are a registered Democrat in New York State and agree with these sentiments, we need your help. Join us to collect signatures to get Adam Sullivan on the ballot for the September Democratic primary.  The petitioning period ends July 10th, so time is of the essence.  To volunteer, donate, or for more information about the campaign, go to SullivanforCongress.net
