McCain uses the internet for attack ads

These online ads to the right I've snagged make me wonder when Obama will respond with online ads attacking McCain:

One of the most pathetic uses of the internet this year among the presidentials was the lack of national online advertising done by the Clinton campaign. I give credit to the Obama campaign for investing millions into mining the internet for financial supporters. During the period from Jan - March, they set records in the amount they spent, and they reaped the rewards. Simple banner ads, remnant mostly, with text ads, as much as they could spend. Meanwhile, the Clinton campaign wasn't able to get rid of (ie, past their legal counsel) the "Paid for by Hillary Clinton.." from their Google text ads (wasting half their text with a disclaimer!). Obama won't face such ineptitude with the McCain online ad operation.

This hit ad is effective-- it catches the eye and does the negative work well enough. It goes to a hard hitting landing page with the message to "Elect a Leader with Good Judgement"... by signing up for McCain's email spam. That's not convincing, but the branding is well done. I've seen some DNC ads done around Bush/McCain (iirc, also developed around fundraising), but not as extensively, and there's nothing yet, in the online ad world, from the Obama campaign, that goes after McCain, is there?

I'm sure this will be on his "fight the smears" website, if it isn't already.

One more reason not to vote for the man. Ad spam.

So all I got from this was that (1) McCain's attack ads are good and (2) they are so good that you're willing to give them a (free) prominent place on your site.  Is there a take home message for the clueless folks like me?

If that's in the rules somewhere, let me know. I know you have the TR/HR rules bookmarked, so it shouldn't be hard to find.

I have also seen "Snob" and "Nope" ads, which have no FEC byline...when you click on them you find they are selling posters, however they are out of stock of all posters and have been for some time - it seems to me this is just a clever way of getting around the FEC regulations by selling attack posters.

Re: McCain uses the internet for attack ads (none / 0)

I have my own concerns about Senator Obama's posture of meeting with leaders of isolated regimes like Iran and Cuba without preconditions. I would let his reasons speak for himself.

Obama Said He'd Be Willing To Meet Without Precondition The Leaders Of Iran. Asked if he were still willing to meet without pre-condition during your first year with Fidel Castro, Kim Jung Il, Hugo Chavez, Obama said, "I do. Now, I did not say that I would be meeting with all of them. I said I'd be willing to. Obviously, there is a difference between pre-conditions and preparation. Pre-conditions, which was what the question was in that debate, means that we won't meet with people unless they've already agreed to the very things that we expect to be meeting with them about. And obviously, when we say to Iran, 'We won't meet with you until you've agreed to all the terms that we've laid out,'" from their perspective that's not a negotiation, that's not a meeting." [Meet the Press, 11/11/07]

http://factcheck.barackobama.com/factche ck/2008/05/29/obamas_consistent_position _on.php

However it is no wonder McCain/Republicans would like to do hit pieces like the above quoted adverts, given that last eight years we had seen the neo-con driven cowboy foreign policy.

It is interesting, though, that polling shows the public back Obama on this by a signficant margin.

On the other hand, it provides a lot of room for fear-mongering on the Repubs part, i.e., "Is it OK to meet with the KKK-Worshipping, Jew-Hating, American-Killing Leader of Iran Who Is Pure Evil? YES or NO"

This is a little off topic but you gotta love this quote from a Politico article up today on how Obama is running circles around John McCain online:

Obama's social network has nearly a million members. McCain's has a sign-up that reads "Benefits of joining Team McCain include:"--with nothing following.

Re: McCain uses the internet for attack ads (2.00 / 1)

The question at hand is 'what will Obama do about these ads?' but honestly, what do we care?  What we should be discussing is how we ourselves will deal with this.  Do these banners charge McCain for each click, or each view, or based simply on a timetable?  Is it possible to treat McCain's online ads as an opportunity to further damage his campaign finances?

How are McCain's ads a weakness for him?

Hey Jerome...your previous dire predictions about the Obama team's strategy have proven less than prescient.

Remember this?

The messaging that Gibbs and Axelrod put together for criticizing Clinton continues to stultify Obama. It's been a complete waste of opportunity to date. Obama is running a non-ideological and non-partisan campaign that entirely pushes the focus onto his personality for his being elected. While his point of criticism toward Clinton should be is a 50-state partisan message and the decline of the Democratic brand in the '90's, he's just not the messenger that has that silver bullet.

I will eat a shoe if the 'you've all been bad' and 'come together' mantra about electability wins a Democratic nomination.
