McCain's Advisor, Karl Rove, Is Behind The New 527s

 title=

Remember this ratfuck bastard, Karl Rove? The one who outed a CIA agent, Valerie Plame? The one that helped George Bush hoodwink the American people in going to Iraq based upon lies about weapons of mass destruction?

Yep, that's the one gleefully posing with John McCain. He's behind a new 527 group called Freedom's Watch. Let me give you the low-down on Freedom's Watch:

Freedom's Watch

A major new 527 conservative advocacy group largely bankrolled by casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson. The donors for Freedom's Watch have raised $200 million for this election to help Republicans.

The National Journal outlines the close ties of Karl Rove to John McCain, and the 527 group Freedom's Watch.

But away from the spotlight, Rove has been busy pitching in by giving informal advice to McCain's team and spending a considerable amount of time as an outside adviser to Freedom's Watch, the conservative political group that is expected to spend tens of millions of dollars to help elect House GOP candidates. William Weidner, a Freedom's Watch board member, recently told National Journal that Rove has offered strategic advice to both the group and its major financial backer, Las Vegas casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson. Weidner, president of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., which Adelson chairs, called Rove "an invaluable asset" to the group.

...

This McCain adviser noted that Rove talks periodically to Black and a few other top campaign aides on several key matters. "It can be policy ideas, messaging ideas, fundraising prospects, or people who need calls from someone in the campaign." Rove is "part of the information network that the campaign has," this adviser said, adding that Rove talks fairly regularly to such key people as Wayne Berman, a major fundraiser for McCain; Nicolle Wallace, a communications adviser; and Steve Schmidt, a senior aide.

It's ironic that John McCain claims that he's not George W. Bush's third term. What could be more emblematic of a Bush third term than the continued reliance on Karl Rove for political strategy, advice, and polling?

One GOP strategist points out the troublesome perception of Karl Rove working with the McCain campaign, even in an informal advisory position:

"Karl is an advantage and a disadvantage," one strategist said. "If Karl can give quiet counsel, that's helpful. But the more public he is, the more you feed the Democratic fodder that this is the third coming of George W. Bush. Karl has a lot of baggage."

Another prominent GOP consultant dubbed Rove a "two-edged sword. Don't forget, he's the architect who got us in this mess."

Oh, yes. The troubles of the Republican party can be directly tied to the troubles of the George W. Bush administration. The same goes for John McCain, and his continued dependence on the same people from the Bush administration. The more he depends on Karl Rove, the more trouble he gets in. It's as simple as that. Relying on Karl shows that you'd be the third George W. Bush third term that everyone's talking about.

Rove's making a lot of money off Freedom's Watch and he's also talking about starting other 527s to influence the presidential election:

Two GOP strategists said they have heard that Rove has worked out a private consulting deal with Adelson; this arrangement, one strategist reported, pays Rove in the mid-six figures for giving speeches and providing assistance to Freedom's Watch on labor union issues, a top priority of the group.

...

This source added that Rove has been "up to his eyeballs" this year in discussions about creating other independent political groups aimed at influencing the presidential race as well as Senate contests. Rove periodically talks about such groups not only with Adelson but also with other mega-donors, such as billionaire Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens, the source said.

Fasten your seatbelts, MyDDers. This is going to be a really ugly ride to the White House, thanks to Karl Rove and John McCain.

Juggling these multiple consulting gigs, GOP sources say, requires Rove to stay out of the public eye and to avoid any potential problems relating to possible illegal coordination among independent political groups and presidential or other campaigns.

The Republicans want Karl Rove to stay out of the public eye. That isn't going to happen, because you guys know what you have to do :-) We make Karl Rove stay in the public eye.

Re: one of the commenters... (none / 0)

Okay but what does that have to do with my comment?  Just b/c Rove SHOULD turn people off doesn't mean anything when it comes to how he can influence Americans perception as a whole.  The man manipulates Americans very well, better then the Democratic party...so that is a major problem for Obama.  Clinton knows how to contend with Rove & his ilk...this is all new for Obama.

Re: McCain's (2.00 / 1)

I think you missed one thing in your thread.  T. Boone Pickens is one of the masterminds behind the Swift boat vets that smeared kerry.  He is not just big money he is a very bad man.

Re: McCain's (2.00 / 1)

Yes 60 minutes did a big special on him.

Lewis Field was officially renamed Boone Pickens Stadium.  The stadium's name was changed to honor Oklahoma State University college alumnus Boone Pickens, a Texas oilman and entrepreneur who founded Mesa Petroleum Company in 1956 and served as its CEO from 1956 to 1996. Pickens donated $165 million overall to the university, the largest single donation for athletics to an institution of higher education in American history, to create an "athletic village" on campus.

Pickens, who had givethe Swift boat veterians for truth group $3 million in funding during the 2004 campaign.  This money was used to attach significant other people to donate and was critical to getting this group off the ground.

He also issued the Swift Boat challenge in 2007 and offer 1 million dollars to anyone who can disprove even a single charge made by the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth.  Kerry's group sent a detailed letter doing just this but the monies never changed hands.

He is very deep into the under the radar funding schemes that the GOP uses to smear democratic candidates and my understanding is he is funding a big 527 run by Karl Rove to smear you know who in the fall of 2008.  He is a very bad and dangerous man.

Re: McCain's Advisor, Karl Rove, Is Behind The New (none / 0)

I think it also points though it illustrates AGAIN how much McCain is willing to compromise from a personal character perspective to be president.  Perhaps if a piece was run showing how Karl Rove assassinated his & his families' character during the first primary against W & McCain's moral outrage with this to his current willingness to utilize Rove & his tactics now...I mean the perception is already out there that McCain will totally sell out for his dream of Presidency - this could further emphasize that to the public. Nobody trusts a sellout to do what they say or really show where they stand which is a big deal when voting for President.
Solidifying the image of McCain as a sellout may be the way to go & using Rove as one of the tools for that might help.

Democrats are deer in headlights if they believe that McCain was going to take a high road. Who are ou fooling.
We need to fight fire into them. One them I realised aout Rethugs is that when you stand and fight them, they quickly back down.
It's jungle ways they understand.
