Adios, Ron Paul

Well, he's not completely out, but the Republican Texas lawmaker will officially end his bid for the presidency at a rally outside of the state's GOP convention next week.  He remains in as an advocate of sorts for libertarian-focused conservatives in local districts nationwide, as part of the "Campaign For Liberty."  ABC News confirms his exit:

Rep. Ron Paul's presidential campaign, a pugnacious, ideological crusade against big government and interventionist leanings in the Republican party, will officially end Thursday at a rally outside the Texas GOP's convention, ABC News has learned.

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who raised millions from staunch supporters attracted to the libertarian's unique message, is dropping his '08 White House bid.
(Jocelyn Augustino/Redux)Paul told supporters back in March, in a video posted on his Web site, that he was "winding down" his campaign and planning a new phase to what he and fans call their "revolution."

Significance?  Talk amongst yourselves.  I'll just miss those chanting zealots with the signs and the frothy chain e-mails that I had to eventually filter into the spam bin.

This will only make him stronger. (none / 0)

I can only hope that he ends the rally by getting pulled up into a zeppelin and flying away to plot his Convention-jacking.

I have to wonder how many delegates he managed to squeeze over time while McCain wasn't paying attention, just by sending his people to the local and state conventions to be chosen as delegates.

Ron Paul may just help win us this election.

Ron Paul Pros:
Racist old loons are funny.

Cons:
The gimmick got old by last December.

Too bad this won't mean he will go away.

RP (none / 0)

RIP RP.

I had great fun exposing your racist past and watching you steal millions of dollars from kids afraid to admit they are liberals.

Thank you for showing how weak your position really was by not running on it after or before your campaign.

Thank you for proving me right with every decision you made.

Now what on earth is he going to do with ALL THAT MONEY?

Other than the racists and militia shit, I loved asking his trollers that one question, especially at the end.

He raised alot of money and I never saw ONE national ad.

Those poor suckers who convinced themselves he was  a libertarian.

Re: RP (none / 0)

A very fair and well balanced message to RP supporters:

This is Cenk Uygur and Wes Clark Jr in the aftermath of RP's racist past was exposed:

I think the message at the end of the video applies to some of the deadenders here too.
Don't worship your candidate, just because they lost does not mean your ideas are less valid.

Re: Adios, Ron Paul (2.00 / 1)

He was more of a Libertarian than Bob Barr.  Lord how far the Libertarians have moved from their party principles.

Too bad.  They could have run somebody that would siphon off more votes from McCain.

Re: Adios, Ron Paul (none / 0)

But like I told every RP supporter during the primary and everyone who tries to give him a pass now...

He wore his little R in parenthesis on his sleeve and with pride.

If RP is a libertarian than so is Huckabee, but thats dumb because they both belong to the DEMOCRATIC party.

We don't call Kucinich anything but a Democrat, do we?

Ron Paul is a brilliant politician and that brilliance has nothing to do with actual politics.

Personally I had never heard of him before the 1st debate, and I haven't seen him push anything in congress.

I worked with his House staffers drafting the Industrial Hemp Act of 2005.

All the co-sponsors were Dems.

Re: Adios, Ron Paul (2.00 / 1)

I may be in the minority here, but I actually have some appreciation for Ron Paul and his supporters.

Honest liberterians have been very poorly served by the Republican party.  He, and his movement, have apparently failed to explain to the Republican party that they're losing an important portion of their party.

They're mad, and if I believed in what they do regarding individual liberty and small government, I'd be pissed as hell.
