McCain to speak in Canada.

Cross posted at Daily Kos

The Economic Club of Toronto has announced that John McCain will be speaking in Ottawa on June 20th.  NAFTA will almost certainly be the topic of the day.  It seems quite obvious to me that he will spend the entire time talking about how he would keep NAFTA and Obama would destroy it, along with Obama wanting to kill Hockey, Beer, and Beavers, and want to form a North American Union....I assume. I am sure people in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, and numerous others, would love to see him defending NAFTA!  But little does John McCain know, he is a moron.  I could really end the diary there but I guess I could explain why he is a moron in this instance.

First, one of the most fundamental principles of Canadian life, besides Hockey, is universal Health care. So right off the bat, he is going to be unpopular in Canada.  Second, NAFTA may seem popular in Canada but a majority of Canadians believe that Canada gets screwed in the deal.  Also on numerous issues, the US Governments of Reagen and Current Bush, have gone against NAFTA despite numerous ruling by US courts and NAFTA courts.  So really its gotten Canada shit all.  So a renegotiation is not a bad thing to look at. Oh another thing not popular in Canada, the Iraq war. So ya thats 2 strikes.  A majority of Canadians were against the war in Iraq from the beginning, hence we did not join the invasion.  The right wing response?

and

Not to mention the deliberate banning of cattle entering the USA because of our lack of support for the war. Which severely damaged our relationship.  Since Bush took over, Canada-USA relations have hit an all time low. Strike 3.
Ya so we are real fans of Republicans up here.  Some things that are popular up here that republicans hate, laws, equal rights, proper education, peace, environment, good governance, continuation of human life, Democracy. Thats strike 11 by my count. While were are at it, if all of a sudden McCain and the Republicans care about Canada, where were they while 85 Canadians died in Afghanistan, oh ya thats right, in that shit hole they call progress. Strike 12.  Obama is offering a relief for our troops in Afghanistan that were doing the majority of the fighting until Canada threatened to withdraw if they didn't send more troops.  If you really cared about Canada, if you have come around and all of a sudden want to defend things Canadians want then do the right thing and concede the election today!

Geography, like Economics, not his strong suit. (2.00 / 2)

I think it's even money he just doesn't know that Canada isn't part of the United States.

"I'm told that the State of Canada has achieved some great things since the unpleasantness of my childhood, the War of 1812, but when I am your president, I will make you even greater, by removing your wasteful socialized health care, cutting your corporate tax rate, and finally allowing your state military to join in the glorious occupation of Iraq as a full partner!"

O Canada! (none / 0)

What a paradise of towering peaks, endless plains, surf-swept coasts, clean air (Windsor excepted,) widespread apostasy and tight-lipped reasonableness!  The domain of the Grizzly, the mosquito and the mighty elk.  The Eden that could have been ours south of the 49th parallel if we had been wise enough to let the South secede.

NAFTA may seem popular in Canada but a majority of Canadians believe that Canada gets screwed in the deal.

v. true we have got the biggest shaft in this agreement - but i assure you - none of the candidates will open it up because they do not want to open up this can of worms.
