The time is now, we must not falter no matter what the consequences

Okay, I'm done pussyfooting around. I don't care about the repercussions, because the reason I want a Democrat elected, is to restore democracy to our country. I think that GWB has set a dangerous precedent for future administrations by expanding exponentially executive privilege. We can still win while holding this administration accountable. To wit, the email I sent her just now can be viewed below.

For the sake of all of which we stand for, listen to Congressman Kucinich. First they came for my privacy, and you said nothing. Then they came for the writ of habeas corpus, and you said nothing. Then they came to deem the Congress as a rubber stamp, and you said nothing. Then they came to paint you and your party members as weak kneed liberals, and you said nothing. Then they came to destroy the bill of rights and the Constitution, and you can DO SOMETHING!

I don't care about the political ramifications. This administration is as evil as nearly any that have existed before it, and should you not hold them accountable, this great experiment we call America will end within the decade. You have enabled this tyrant, and now you have your chance to atone.

Please, I beg of you, allow Mr. Kucinich's motion to be called for a vote on the floor. Prove to me that there is in fact a check on executive authority.

Thank you,

******

Think you added an "n", but it contributed to the emphasis. Thanks! Please email the speaker. The link is in the diary. We have to force the Republicans to vote up or down whether they think this administration was justified in their disregard for the Constitution.

Re: --------tasty------- (1.00 / 0)

Age old question... do you fear -- fear itself or do you side on caution.

I myself dont mind giving up some privacy for secruity, but I do want the right to duo process in american courts as an american citizen.

Re: --------tasty------- (1.00 / 0)

Nice saying But I also know it is different times/ different kind of enemy from the time those words were uttered.

Ask the jews in Isreal if they feel less deserving because of the secruity concerns and if that means they want to give up their land..

Re: --------tasty------- (none / 0)

By that reckoning, no one should have stood up to Adolf Hitler. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. We have a system of checks and balances for a reason. It prevents the kind of tyranny we have seen this last 7 years. Also, you have a greater chance of being struck by lightning 3 times than dying just once in a terrorist attack. Sure, give up the freedoms you hold dear because you are afraid. Whatever happened to, "Give me liberty or give me death"? I guess our founding fathers were slightly more committed to this great union than you are. I don't mean this as a slight, but I would gladly lay down my life, so that future generations may be free. I think you should think of things along those lines.

Another quote to help you understand what this country was founded on:

Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? - Patrick Henry

Recc'd (2.00 / 1)

Nothing is more important than impeachment. If there is no impeachment, then the great experiment in democracy called America will have failed. It will stagger on, perhaps for generations, but it will become progressively more despotic and fascist because the rule of law will have been abandoned. To simply allow the most criminal regime in our history to walk away from their crimes is a very bad precedent to set for a legal system based on precedent.

Re: Recc'd (none / 0)

All hail King Caesar, the savior of our Republic. Not so much, the powers he usurped from the Senate would never be yielded back. This is why we must impeach.

Well said. (none / 0)

Something has to be done. Thank you, Dennis, for getting the ball rolling. And to all the naysayers who think this is politically dangerous, keep in mind that our inaction isn't just "caution" -- it's tacit consent.

It's time to stand up and do something.

Even John McCain lusts after teh engels.
