Yesterdays other Story: Obama hits McCain

The story no one is talking about, Obama hit McCain for not admitting he made a mistake with the troop level gaffe.

provided by TPM:

We all misspeak sometimes. I've done it myself. So on such a basic, factual error, you'd think that Senator McCain would just admit that he made a mistake and move on. But he couldn't do that. Instead, he dug in. And the disturbing thing is that we've seen this movie before -- a leader who pursues the wrong course, who is unwilling to change course, who ignores the evidence. Now, just like George Bush, John McCain refused to admit that he made a mistake. And that's exactly the kind of leadership that we've had through more than five years of fighting a war that should've never been authorized, and should've never been waged.

We don't need more leaders who can't admit they've made a mistake, even when it's about something as fundamental as how many young Americans are serving in harm's way.

Well Mr. "I'm not a Third Bush Term" has picked up another Bush habit he won't admit he made a mistake and tried to spin it.

his original mistake? he attacked Obama's judgment on Iraq while saying we were back to pre-surge troop levels. Obama hit them on it, and they tried and spin it as no big deal, well to me there is a difference between 135,000 troops and 155,000 troops risking their lives and potentially dying.
to McCain the extra 10,000+ soldiers he seems to have forgotten about? hey no big deal

"To get into a debate about a verb tense rather than the real fundamental national security issues at stake is really a distraction," he said.

I think Ben Smith at Politico said it best.

This verb tense thing is a novel excuse, with potentially wide future use on both sides. Hillary, for instance, could have been referring to the risk of future sniper fire. Obama, perhaps, meant that the U.S. will, at some future date, add seven states.

People REALLY hate Obama NOW (none / 0)

I think a lot of people who were sitting on the fence are going to decide to push for some kind of change that builds a new coalition. Obama is obviously not our candidate.

Re: People REALLY hate Obama NOW (none / 0)

umm.. ok feel free.
its not like it will be based around Hillary she isn't leaving the party. and I still see the Dems winning the white house.

so really anyone who wants to leave won't see me saying any different, and it just means that if Dems do win, well those voters have no say trying to set a democratic agenda.

No. YOU really hate Obama. But I can understand how it makes you feel less isolated to say "people."

Re: Tips for Dems fighting back (2.00 / 1)

Thanks to you for getting to the real issue here.  My son is in Iraq.  I see McCain has being complicit in sending him there and desirous of keeping him there for "100 years."  McCain doesn't even comprehend how many troops have their boots in the sand, much less what they are going through.  He is oblivious to their rising suicide rates and doesn't support giving them proper benefits in exchange for their sacrifice.  I'm fed up with the free ride McSame is getting.

Good diary (none / 0)

It doesn't look like you're going to be able to persuade people to talk about the content of your diary, but I appreciate your posting it.

I agree that Sen. McCain, like Pres. Bush, doesn't admit or apologize for mistakes very gracefully. I'm also pleased to see Sen. Obama going straight at Sen. McCain's perceived points of strength -- foreign policy and the military. Sen. McCain has tried to smack him down as if he's an overeager puppy a couple of times already, but if Sen. Obama keeps hitting him on it, sooner or later Sen. McCain is going to lose his temper, and THAT will be an attention-getter.

Thats what I thought. WHAT A PHONY. (none / 0)

How could this campaign have become the ugliness it is? Why haven't people just said, "Enough"?

I am just begging that we don't have another four years of McCain but I guess the Presidency is sort of a bobby prize with the economy headed towards implosion. Maybe neither party wants it.

Thats something to consider. I think there has been so much looting going on. Perhaps the next President is being selected on the basis of their willingness to avoid demonizing the Bush administration especially, not doing a real audit of the dissapearing funds and Iraq?

Obama's their guy..

we new this was going to happen for a week now, I don't know why people are surprised if you don't like how the DNC runs their party, leave the party, go create that other party, but please spare those of us who aren't leaving the party your whine. and yes you are whining and what is it your candidate said? can't stand the heat get out of the Kitchen?
