More Mark Penn Stupidity

I find it somewhat troubling that one of Hillary's main advisors, Mark Penn, has been given such a free ride on why her campaign was run so poorly.  First, the bad planning concerning caucus states, no plan for post-Super Tuesday primaries, the Colombia Trade Agreement fiasco and now we find out Mark Penn thought the primaries were winner-take-all.

Clinton picked people for her team primarily for their loyalty to her, instead of their mastery of the game. That became abundantly clear in a strategy session last year, according to two people who were there. As aides looked over the campaign calendar, chief strategist Mark Penn confidently predicted that an early win in California would put her over the top because she would pick up all the state's 370 delegates. It sounded smart, but as every high school civics student now knows, Penn was wrong: Democrats, unlike the Republicans, apportion their delegates according to vote totals, rather than allowing any state to award them winner-take-all. Sitting nearby, veteran Democratic insider Harold M. Ickes, who had helped write those rules, was horrified -- and let Penn know it. "How can it possibly be," Ickes asked, "that the much vaunted chief strategist doesn't understand proportional allocation?" And yet the strategy remained the same, with the campaign making its bet on big-state victories. Even now, it can seem as if they don't get it. Both Bill and Hillary have noted plaintively that if Democrats had the same winner-take-all rules as Republicans, she'd be the nominee. Meanwhile, the Clinton campaign now acknowledges privately:

He WAS the main reason she lost this election, IMHO.

Wasn't Mark Penn Joe Lieberman's Presidential campaign chief strategist in 2004?  How the heck didn't he know the rules in 2008?

I think this was diaried like 20 times yesterday.  That said, it's very funny in a tragic sort of way.

Re: More Mark Penn Stupidity (none / 0)

He is a good strategist vs republicans in a straight fight.

However, his primary performance has/had been shambolic.

Perhaps he's just past it now, too old, too fat, in todays modern day.

Re: More Mark Penn Stupidity (2.00 / 1)

Mark Penn is a great American serving a honorable woman trying to make women everywhere proud to have a woman in the White House. It takes real courage for a man to see that Hillary is right for America. Mark Penn should be welcomed not called names. He is truly a great American!

Re: More Mark Penn Stupidity (2.00 / 1)

If Hillary paid me what she was going to pay Fart Penn, I too would have worked for her. And I would have come up with a better strategy than that lardass who is playing his role in destroying the environment with his excess consumption of food.

Re: More Mark Penn Stupidity (2.00 / 1)

Look, I get uncomfortable trashing someone for their size or looks.

But not Mark Penn!  The man is a millionaire, so all that sweaty fun stuff he carries is either intentional or avoidable.

And for God's sakes your are the face of the campaign!  That look only works for Michael Moore (prob why he wont lose weight ;)  ]

OMG (2.00 / 1)

Was he really that dumb?

I know his strategies were stupid but this has to be taken out of context.  Even if he was that stupid, Hillary knew about proportional allocation.

What the heck.

That inspired me to look at the (none / 0)

Facebook application for microtrends and is is sad.  One person reviewed his book, basically calling it a piece of crap and 2 people talked about it one bashing Mark Penn and the other defending him.

Re: More Mark Penn Stupidity (none / 0)

I don't understand why Hillary who vowed to reform the consultant class a couple of years ago decided to go with this loser for her campaign? Mark Penn should be sued for incompetence. Why anyone would give his or her business to this fat turd is beyond any rational explanation.

I think it's time Dem,ocrats stop paying these fat bastards so much money. They can get better ads and advice from volunteers. It also sends a bad message to the people on the street who volunteer a lot of their time for free.

Mark Penn (none / 0)

was a disaster for Hillary Clinton. No two ways about it. If this is true, it only adds to the pile.

Anyone else notice that Hillary seemed less like a robot and more like a true candidate AFTER she got rid of Penn?

Penn was a diaster to the Clinton campaign.

Penn denies Time report, and Wolfson doesn't recall it.  It's certainly looks like a story told by Ickes.

This is why Hillary should not be in office.  Surrounding herself with dumb loyalists instead of those who are qualified.  Reminds me of someone else...
