Action Diary: Become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the New GI Bill

 title=

Tom Udall is calling on you to join him in co-sponsoring the new GI Bill.  The original GI Bill ensured that a generation of American veterans were able to return from World War II and get a quality, four year college education.

The new GI Bill will ensure that post-9/11 veterans are entitled to the same full four year college education.  You can help pass this bill by adding your name to the growing list of citizen co-sponsors.

A letter from Tom, below the fold...

Yesterday, I joined with both House Republicans and Democrats to introduce the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act which will offer educational benefits that are on par with what my father received after serving in Italy during World War II. While I've helped organize my colleagues on Capitol Hill to sponsor this critical legislation it will mean even more if you'll sign on as a citizen co-sponsor as well.

Our bill will extend the educational benefits to over 1.7 million brave troops that have served us so well since September 11, 2001 so that they will be able to afford to attend a four-year university and receive a stipend for books, housing and other expenses. After all they sacrificed for us, this new "Greatest Generation" deserves no less.

Thanks to the GI Bill, my father and millions of his comrades were able to return home and help build the strongest, most vibrant economy this nation has ever seen. We need to update this cornerstone of our economy so that it will help pull us out of this downturn. We owe it to them - and to ourselves.

Thank you so much,

Tom Udall

Our brave veterans deserve a quality education.  Please co-sign the bill today at http://www.tomudall.com/troops.

Thank You.

It's abominable that two combat tours isn't enough to give our soldiers an education by McCain's estimation.  McCain thinks that our brave men and women only serve for themselves, that they put themselves in harms way to get a free ride later.

He would hold them hostage for six tours, risking death, maiming, and PTSD three times as long, before giving them "incentive to drop out."

Well yeah, after six tours, most soldiers aren't really front-line material anyway.

I urge everyone to sign this and call your congresspeople if they're not already supporting it... a fact you can learn from this link here:

Nice!!! (2.00 / 1)

A new GI bill is well deserved for our troops who have been serving multiple tours.

My father benefited from the original GI Bill when he came back from Europe after serving almost 4 years, without much to his name.  I would not wish for less for today's combat troops.
