Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers

According to Simon Rosenberg, the Clintons disingenuous efforts to count the ridiculous FL/MI results (rather than simply find a compromise that makes sure FL/MI are represented at the convention) has really pissed off some superdelegates:

In addition to sounding like she has been trying to rewrite the rules in the middle of the game, I think the strident rhetoric by the Clinton campaign on the sanctioning of FL and MI has done grave damage to their campaign. Most of the superdelegates, who at this point have the power to decide the outcome of the race, are from the other 48 states and 6 territories. They played by the rules. They are not interested in rewarding FL and MI for bad behavior and have resented the approach taken by the Clintons.

In addition, Senator Clinton's campaign agreed to the sanctioning of Florida and Michigan. If the voters of those states were disinfranchised then she was instrumental in bringing that about. The superdelegates in these other places understand all this better than anyone, and I think her wild approach to resolving the unfortunate problem of FL and MI has ended up being a major cause of her terrible showing with superdelegates these last 2 months. Like many of us who understood the system, and her role in creating it, the campaign's consistent whining and strident rhetoric has spoken very badly of her character. To many this episode has reinforced the notion that she and her husband were her willing to say and do anything to get elected, including what appears to be, let us say, lying and cheating.
I think that's about right. Anyone who is not wearing Clinton goggles can see that a revote was basically impossible and that FL/MI screwed up, and that Hillary's position on this issue has been completely shameless.

The worst part for FL/MI is that if they had waited they would have enjoyed the spotlight like NC/IN!

Anyway - FL/MI will definitely be seated - though the Banana Republic elections in January will have little to do with the seating chart - not that it will matter, as there will only be one candidate in the race by then.

It shouldn't matter whether his name was on the ballot or not because all candidates agreed that the FL and MI results would not count.

Seems like speculation this was what happened.  Could be true, but unclear.

I'm not wearing Obama goggles and I don't see that.  I think maybe I need to borrow your mind-reading goggles that also see into the future.

Re: Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers (2.00 / 1)

Not only that, but nothing makes superdelegates run for the hills faster than the prospect of a floor fight.  Not only is she being disingenuous - transparently, infuriatingly disingenuous, but it's ultimately self-defeating.

It amounts to "if you vote for me, I can get close enough to take this to the convention!"

Re: Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers (2.00 / 1)

The Nuclear option, which they declared outright yesterday (according to the Huff post) was really a crazy idea?

The Supers, or a lot of them, are running for election themselves?

What kind of genius (Marc Penn?) thought threatening to turn Denver into Chicago 1968 with Sony MiniCams was going to sell to the party?

Re: Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers (none / 0)

Why in the world would super delegates disrespect Hillary Clinton for attempting to seat two major states' delegations at the convention?

I'm sure every one of those delegates could imagine if it were their own state that was threatened with disenfranchisement.

What was always disingenuous was the Obama camp's resistance to any solution other than a 50/50 split which certainly would not represent the "will of the voters" in those states.

You can argue "rules" as much as you want but the fact remains there are tens of millions of Americans that won't have their "will" reflected in Denver unless those contingents are seated.

Be they from New York or Illinois they must have some concern about what to do with Florida and Michigan.

There will be a solution.  The risk is too high in November otherwise.

Re: Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers (none / 0)

Ummm.

Because she wants to sit them based on those banana republic elections.

Why not just sit them 50/50? Then they're represented at the convention.

Re: Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers (none / 0)

banana republic?  How?  Florida - everyone on the ballot.

Michigan - alas for Obama, he took his name off to sweeten the pot with Iowa.  And again, because he did that himself, tough shit.  If Hillary took his name off, different story.  But she didn't and he did.  Why should she pay for his damn mistake?

HAHA.

Everyone was on the ballot!!!

You are so stupid.

No one campaigned.

How is that a real election?

Can you admit that you're a shameless liar and that you just support this because it helps Hillary?????

What is wrong with you people?!?!?!

Re: Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers (2.00 / 1)

Hooray for you!! The only thing that is really ridiculous is the notion that supers would be pissed at Hillary for wanting voters to be counted. Good God I thought we still lived in a democracy. Where in the hell are these Obama people coming from. It is time we tear their masks off, so we can see them for what they really are.

Re: Fight for FL/MI hurt Clinton with Supers (none / 0)

But no one told him it was ok to disenfranchise the votes of 2.5 million people. "Ridiculous" is in the eyes of the beholder. Apparently Obama folks think that is ok, would you think the same if the shoe was on the other foot?

How many were disenfranchised because they stayed home becasuse they knew the election wouldn't count.
