CNN, NBC News Project Obama Win in North Carolina

Just in; results to come... ABC News calls it a rout.

Update [2008-5-6 19:48:32 by Todd Beeton]:From CNN's NC exit polls, Obama over-performed among black voters, winning them 91-6, and Hillary Clinton underpeformed among white voters, winning them by a margin of 59-36. And remarkably there really was not much of a gender gap. Barack Obama won men 57-39 and he won women 54-42. A friend tells me that if these exit polls hold up it will translate to a 13 or so point win for Obama.

Display:

Obama Win in North Carolina (none / 0)

The margin must be huge in his favor for them to call it with not a single vote counted.

Guess Rev. Wright was correct when he said that attacks on him were attacks on the entire black church.  Clearly that's how it was taken in the AA community.

That is actually how I felt (save the AIDS comment but several Black Congressional Delegation Members had said that as soon as 10 years ago).  There is no single Black Church, but he is part of a huge sector.  I think the Wright problem was very much a White problem...that is how it was being perceived amongst most people in the clergy community.

Well, no (none / 0)

If you look at the last polls that were run, you'll see they were predicting a 32-33% Af-Am voter turnout.

Something motivated these people to go to the polls.   Maybe they believed in the candidate, or maybe whites soured on Ms. Clinton.

Also - you don't know how white voters turned out.  Don't forget - Barack Obama won a majority of whites in Virginia.  You can't call whites a monolithic bloc - Hillary has unique strength among white voters in Appalachia, not all white voters.  For another example, see Oregon, where Obama is way ahead of her because he is polling well among whites.

Because black people don't ever wear blue collars?  I hear way too much of that talk.

On the question of white voters and especially blue collar whites, you're right that he has trouble winning them against Hillary Clinton, if we're in Appalachia or the South.

But do not forget: he won a majority of the white vote in Wisconsin, Maryland, Iowa, Virginia, Washington state (huge, there, by the way) - all of which are blue or swing states.  He is currently slated to win a majority of white votes in Oregon, South Dakota and Montana.  And he was very competitive in other states.

So, please.  Don't tell me he can't win white votes, even against Hillary.

55/45 just about where everyone expected it to be. But if its based on 91% of the black vote and they are a third of the electorate it just confirms what we already know. The euphoria because this guy has won in a state which the democrats have not got the remotest chance of winning in the general is totally bizarre.

And Hillary is blowing him away in Indiana. Also 50% of all exit polling has shown that the Wright controversy was important in both states.

North Carolina is another 20 Point Obama BLOWOUT (none / 0)

Hillary has only managed to do that once in her home State of Arkansas.

MSNBC exit polling is showing that Clinton is winning the majority of all white voting blocks in NC. Again this shows that Obama cannot win outside of his own base.

Just watch the White Voters in Oregon vote Obama (none / 0)

and deliver another crushing defeat to Hillary's microscopic chances.

Wow, winning white voters by 23 points is underperforming?  I guess I wasn't briefed on what the expectations were, but... wow.

Yes! CNN has just reported that Obama is having a serious problem with White voters in Indiana and NC, despite the projection for him in NC

Problems... (2.00 / 1)

Not as serious a problem as Clinton is having with African-American voters...
