Clinton Blames You for Hillary's Loss

Sheesh.  How much longer can large portions of the MoveOn.org "crowd" put up with attacks like this?

Bill Clinton blamed "MoveOn crowd" for a lack of superdelegate support.  Weren't these the same people who originally formed a political advocacy group to say we shouldn't impeach Bill Clinton and that we should MoveOn?

This quote is from Kenneth Vogel at the Politico.

<After rattling off a series of poll numbers showing Hillary Clinton faring better than Obama against McCain, Bill Clinton told donors: "We are in the strongest conceivable position electorally and not in a good fix with the superdelegates, because they have felt all the pressure from the Obama side, from the media, from the MoveOn crowd - who they think is an automatic ATM machine for everybody for life. So, they're reluctant to take on all that.<</p>

She's blamed just about everyone else.

Move on is in good company.

But on a more intrinsic level I blame Mark Penn.  I just don't like that guy.

Re: Clinton Blames You for Hillary's Loss (none / 0)

The pressure being felt by Hillary is the same pressure Bill put on other candidates to drop out in 1992.

Amusing (2.00 / 1)

Amusing that Clinton is complaining some people might be for Obama because MoveOn might give them money.  I don't recall any public threats to withhold donations if they don't get their way from the Obama side, but we have seen some examples of that from the Clinton side.

Reflecting how tense the situation has become, influential fund-raisers for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton have stepped up their behind-the-scenes pressure on national party leaders to resolve the matter, with some even threatening to withhold their donations to the Democratic National Committee unless it seats the delegates from the two states or holds new primaries there. [...]

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/15 /clinton-donors-threaten-t_n_91678.html

In a move that could foreshadow a public push from the Hillary forces to get Barack Obama to invite her on the ticket, Hillary's top campaign fundraising official said in an interview that there's a "risk" that Hillary's political and financial supporters won't get behind Obama in time for him to win in November if she's passed over for the veep slot.

Re: Sheesh (2.00 / 1)

MoveOn was perhaps the first organic netroots organization. Its proudly liberal advocacy powered by angry Democrats on the internet, helped lay the foundations for the people-powered progressive blog movement.

So if you're posting on this blog, then you are, in effect, MoveOn.

You're making a wingnut Al Gore joke on a Democratic blog?

Re: Sheesh (none / 0)

Really? Where did I mention Gore?

You're saying that "Move-on" basically created blogs/sites, I went one step further and asked if "Move-on" created the internet too.

uh, right...sarcastic remarks about "creating the internet" have nothing to do with Al Gore.

Re: what could possibly (2.00 / 3)

All due respect, what the hell could Bill be thinking?  MoveOn was founded in support of him.

Fundraising is a good thing.  The netroots has done, and will do, a lot of good.

Apparently he's pretty pissed that these new people aren't doing what he would prefer.  That's fine, but I am a touch aggrieved.

I read the full article at the Politico.  I don't like being anybody's stalking horse.

What was Bill thinking?  Simple: If you're not with us, you're against us.

I'm glad (none / 0)

I'm glad this was posted. I hadn't seen the story until now. I certainly want to know what the Clintons think of active Democrats, many who have donated time, energy and money to them in the past.

Re: Clinton Blames You for Hillary's Loss (2.00 / 3)

MoveOn gave the people (since Clinton supporters like to emphasize that a lot) a chance to vote on who MoveOn should support, and the people picked Obama.

Just a bunch of sour grapes if you ask me. If anyone needs to "move on", it's the Clintons.

Re: Clinton Blames You for Hillary's Loss (2.00 / 3)

As I said in another diary, the race is just about over. I know a lot of what's being said is utterly ridiculous, but we need to start letting this stuff go.

I don't even care that much what Bill or Hillary say now...the media and just about everyone else has "moved on" to Obama vs. McCain. We should really be doing the same.

If I'm in the so-called MoveOn crowd, to me it's a compliment.  In what sense is it an attack?

Because Bill is blaming (none / 0)

MoveOn among others for failing to realise The Truth that Hillary is the better candidate?

It's not a very coherent statement, I'll grant you, but I don't think Bill intends to compliment MoveOn for pressuring Superdelegates to go with Obama.

and I think my brain is fried.

I didn't say it was an "attack" by Bill, but if you want my opinion, I think it was more along the lines of darn stupid, petty, and childish.

What I didn't, and don't, understand is why you called it a hypersensitive DIARY?

Re: Clinton Blames You for Hillary's Loss (2.00 / 1)

I get the feeling that Bill is going to have a very difficult time dealing with this, if it turns out to be Obama.  He's shocked.  It happens.

Blacks, liberals, MoveOn, the Kennedys, delegates, superdelegates, caucuses, the entire anti-war movement, rich donors, Hollywood, MSNBC, Tim Russert, the nightly news. Who else will Hillary blame?

When she wakes up one day and looks in the mirror, she will have found the true answer.

Move-On is shorthand for Bloggers (none / 0)

he only mentions Move-On at the very end, saying the Super Delegates "think [Move-On] is an automatic ATM, for everybody, for life."

I think he really means bloggers.
