Guam Primary: Obama 50.1, Clinton 49.9 !!!

The final results are in.

Obama 50.1

Clinton 49.9

What a squeaker, but this is still encouraging since Obama was supposed to win by 11%

http://www.kuam-media.com/news/demcaucus /results.htm

Obama actually won by seven votes. This should be a sobering lesson to all of us regarding the importance of our votes. This is as close to a tie as one can get. Indiana and Noth Carolina Clinton supporters get on the telephine and GOTV for her. This is indeed momentum.

Interesting way of looking at things.  It's sort of like saying that the 20,000 jobs we lost last month is a sigh of relief because we were expected to lose many, many more jobs.

A win is a win.

just commenting on the shift in momentum, in a province he was expected to clean up in, he won by 7 votes.

His spreadsheet was dead on.  They got it 100% right when it came to what mattered in this race, which is the delegate count.

Don't take the Diary down because I think it says it all. Earlier, didn't Obama's people predict he'd win Guam by 10+ points?

by zenful6219 on Sat May 03, 2008 at 07:24:32 PM EST

How many more votes (none / 0)

would have taken it to a 10% gap?

Doesn't take much to move the percentage when the total number is so small.

Maybe they can donate money to political parties?--If so, it would make sense to give them some small representation in the party.

Still a loss, however.  You don't win by performing far better than expected.  Just ask Mike Huckabee.

In a proportional representation, the margin of victory is actually very important.

I thought we all knew that at this stage in the game...?

Explained here:

http://www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art icle?AID=/20080504/NEWS01/805040306/1002

The Pilar Lujan/Jaime Paulino won the race for Democratic Party Chairman/Vice Chairman, and one has said they'll support Obama, the other said they'll support the Guam popular vote winner (presumably Obama, barring a reversal in the event of a recount).

Re: Guam Primary: Obama 50.1, Clinton 49.9 !!! (none / 0)

A difference of 7 votes is pretty wild. It shows that the predicted Obama win by a large margin didn't come anywhere near as close. A recount would cost money. Is it worth it. Actually, both of them should demand a recount. Good practise for the GE where the Democratic winner will be somehow forced into defending rightfully won votes.

Both SDs to Obama (2.00 / 1)

It's fascinating to see how Obama wins by losing
as he gets two SDs from Guam.

Unless she wins both in IN and NC, she won't get many more SDs.

by alamedadem on Sat May 03, 2008 at 07:37:27 PM EST

Re: Guam Primary: Obama 50.1, Clinton 49.9 !!! (none / 0)

That's a common term in elections. Spoiled ballots are ones where it's not clear who the person was voting for, perhaps because the voter appeared to vote for both.  For example, the name of one candidate is circled and there's an arrow pointing to another.

Since Hillary won more votes from Democrats in a democratic primary shouldn't her supporters be just as upset if the SD gives the election to Barack?

After all none of them can reach 2024 without assistance.
