Hillary says help. Obama says help.
And the 69 dead in 61 days are calling your name.
The roll call of the dead began when the Slaugher Boys known as Bush and Cheney delisted wolves from the Endangered Species Act and Limpy, a Wyoming wolf, was shot the first day.
Another wolf was shot near Grand Teton National Park in a supposedly safe area. Many packs have already been decimated.
Today Defenders of Wildlife went to court in Missoula, Montana, to stop the slaughter until a court case protesting the delisting can be decided.
In my own Montana days, about 140 miles from Missoula, I came outside early one morning in the late fall to find the most magnificent dog I had ever seen on a little promontory near my house. I lived with a siberian husky and I thought it strange I had never seen the dog before. And then like a sun breaking into my confusion it hit me: this is a wolf. I froze then and just stared at the most magnificent animal I had ever seen. We stood there in the early dawn staring across the species divide, sharing what seemed like a huge curiosity and maybe even a longing to know each other better. Our unmoving stillness shattered when someone called out, and as their cry split the still air the wolfe turned away from me and bounded away.
I never told another living soul in Montana what I had seen. They still trap wild animals and I knew every hunter within a 50 mile radius would descend on our little town to kill him a wolfe.
I do not doubt having lived in this part of the US that Defenders of Wildlife needs our help to stop a slaughter aimed at erasing all the gains reintroducing wolves into the wild has accomplished. The organizatgion does a lot

Our fight in the courts. Today is one of the first of many court clashes over the elimination of federal protections for wolves. We need your ongoing support to maintain these efforts.
On-the-ground efforts. Each year, Defenders pays for "range riders", livestock guarding dogs, education and training, fladry barriers, fencing and other proactive strategies to keep wolves away from livestock -- and both out of harm's way.
Grassroots mobilization. With your help, our staff has testified in defense of wolves at hearings across the region, mobilized hundreds to speak out on Idaho's proposed wolf hunt and generated headlines in Wyoming for the thousands of Defenders activists who called the governor to urge an end to the state's shoot-on-sight policy and much, much more.
Media outreach. Our staff continuously monitors media accounts, rebutting myths and distortions and countering statements by radical wolf opponents like Ron Gillett, who earlier this year said, "You can nuke `em, poison `em, dynamite -- I don't care. I just want them gone."
Defenders believes in a balanced land management policy that supports ranchers, tourists, naturalists, loggers, and our extraordinary wildlife.
