Anybody know anything on the Evelyn Pringle Obama articles?

Hi, this is my first diary, I've been lurking a while, ever since KOS became an Obama echo chamber.

I just started reading a bit of a series of articles written by Evelyn Pringle on the whole story behind the Rezko corruption trial and Patrick Fitzgerald's criminal investigation of the corruption pyramid behind this trial.  It seems that Rezko is only one of the indictees of his probe, many others have pleaded guilty and agreed to co-operate in his investigation in exchange for leniency.

It's a huge series of articles and I've only begun to read them but my question is: is this reporter Pringle a legit journalist or a hack for political operatives?

Just want to know - this seems to be such a big story and I am wondering if there is a good reason why it hasn't hit the mainstream or even the blogoshere.

The series of articles are published by Scoop Independent News, which is a New Zealand based online site.

Here is the link -

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0805/S0 0325.htm

So has anyone read these articles and what do you think of their legitimacy?

Rezko's a non-story. (2.00 / 5)

The ChiTrib ended it months ago. Since then, Obama's taken a near insurmountable delegate lead, setting him up as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party.

That means the only people still digging are those interested in undermining the guy who's most likely going to be our nominee. Such people aren't Democrats, but GOP trolls or Clinton dead-enders.

Which are you?

Step 1. Install Firefox.
Step 2. Highlight Evelyn Pringle
Step 3. Right Click and choose "Search Google for..."
Step 4. See quite quickly she writes for OP/ED News.

Step 5. Realize that ALL of this crap has been investigated by working professional journalists for years.

Step 6. Ask yourself why these articles are being published in a NEW ZEALAND online publication instead of the WSJ or NYT.

I concur with others that suggest you go read the comments section over at NoQuarterusa.net to get a flavor of the crowd that are 'investigating' this.

Re: Articles (1.00 / 5)

I don't think Evelyn Pringle's credentials are the issue nor is the matter of which other websites pick up her story. She is an investigative journalist (of 35 years standing) who has been reporting the Rezko trial.

The information imparted in her articles is simply jury evidence gleaned from that trial ie it is all verifiable.

The two key people who benefitted from the very complex "Combine" operational fraud were Governor Rod Blagojevich and Senator Barack Obama (Rezko himself donated $250,000 to his campaigns). The prosecutor has hinted at an indictment of the Illinois Governor and it may be just a matter of time before Obama is affected.

It is a smoking bomb.

Nothing to see here. (none / 0)

The Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune would both be all over anyhing fact based.  I know the Chicago Sun-Times has a staff blog position for the Trial.  The trial itself has been rather boring,  the jury has been deliberating, nothing has come of it.  It does not appear anything criminal is going to come of the Rezko connection for Obama.  I think the biggest impact would be his friendship with "middle-eastern" people, along the lines of the "he is a Muslim" smear,  racism for the ignorant.

The problem with this argument on behalf of Clinton, is she has had similar associates. And greater volume of them.  So if you want to throw Obama out because of this taint, the same would have to be done for Clinton.   Does this mean we should nominate Edwards or Gore?

by Reaper0Bot0 on Mon May 26, 2008 at 05:59:10 PM EST

you're brave for asking that here (2.00 / 3)

and  you see what kind of responses you get.  First, as far as I know the author is legit and is following the Rezko trial.  A verdict is due sometime in June which may or may not implicate Obama in a corruption scam on housing for political donations.  Patrick Fitzgerald--of scooter libby fame--is leading the investigation and apparently has referred to Obama in court proceedings as "Official X" (not sure if its a, b, or x, so I put x).

You can go directly to the source for more information.  No Quarter is a blog that is critical of Obama.  They are not "peddling racist shit", or trash, as some commenters here would have you believe. They are talking about Obama's weaknesses that heretofore have not been addressed.

by 4justice on Mon May 26, 2008 at 05:59:31 PM EST

thanks for respecting me (2.00 / 2)

I get frustrated by the attitude I get.

Believe me, Obama people, we Clinton voters are not your enemy.  The Primary is almost over and the real  election begins.

What gets me is that Democrats are really more united than ever this year, when you talk about the issues we care about.  It is only in this contest to decide who we pick to lead us, that we get into the personal side, character stuff and baggage and all those intangibles.

What I want to know from Obama people is substantive answers but instead I get hostile one sentence remarks, no explanations, no real rebuttals.

But I admit, I asked for it.  Instead of reading the articles, I wanted to know whether they were on the level or not.  I guess I will retreat and make up my own mind after reading them in full.

Re: thanks for respecting me (1.66 / 3)

You have to understand that Obama supporters here are kind of an embattled group; there's a crowd of Clinton supporters around here that likes to do the same thing to Obama that the right-wing did to the Clintons in the '90s.  If you have the time to shower afterward, do check out sites like the racist No Quarter and the cesspool that is Hillaryis44; those are the only people referencing Pringle.  The mainstream press has backed off from this for a reason: there's absolutely no indication of any kind that Barack Obama did anything wrong.

Unfortunately you've received a bit of a negative reaction; a lot of people's troll-dar is being (wrongly, it appears) set off by your post asking if there's anything to this Rezko business.  I have to admit that when I first read this diary, it seemed to me like you were using Cavuto marks.

I apologize for others' negativity here.  I think that as you look at the story, you'll see that there really isn't any "there" there.  Pay particular attention to the Trib's reporting on the matter... they've been following this since the beginning.  If they're satisfied, as they seem to be, that Obama did absolutely nothing wrong, then I think you should be too.

Is the book of revelation in the bible finally coming to its completion? It's just so weird to me that so many white people that (majority are racist) not all are but all of a sudden they like this man. I mean look what happen with Dr. King. Someone once told me when I was about 12 years old that the day we have a black president it's the end of days (Apocalypse). Wow damn I didn't believe a day would come like this. So many people are fascinated with this man, some cry, faint, and idolized this man why??? All of a sudden??? His speeches are sooo powerful it knocks everyone down and makes them want him more. When this man came from no where and popped out of no where and what about his experience???? All I know is that there is something weird going on he brings something demonic behind him. He is brain washing all these people about "peace" and "we are the people". Also some black people are saying "yes finally a black president" but the real deal is he is NOT BLACK he is deceiving all these people.

Hey, that's one commenter over there, and incidentally to believe BO and MO are "inferior people" is not racist, a priori.  "Ape shit" is arguable simply because ape-shit is a commonly used term, but I can imagine the commenter meant it in a racist way.

Meanwhile, people are posting racist and sexist crap on DKos, MyDD and other places.  You holding that against Markos?  No?  Then don't hold it against Larry Johnson.  If he himself says something even marginally racist, like the commenter you quoted, then pound away.

One thing is for sure, in the last two weeks as the Orangemen have been pouring over onto MyDD, the TR'ing has gone overboard.  I say let information out.  On the whole, one might as well let anybody who says something truly nasty get hoist on their own petard.

Re: Evelyn Pringle Obama articles? (2.00 / 2)

I'll assume you're legit for now (2.00 / 1)

I empathize with your frustration at getting less than helpful responses to your question. You've caught the Obama crowd doing what comes naturally. Fine examples of citizenry, don't you think?

As mentioned above, the articles are real and they cover several years of Chicago Politics - best sources are No Quarter (who have been following this matter carefully for quite some time) www.noquarterusa.net. There is also www.rezkowatch.blogspot.com.

Obama appears to weave in and out of these sordid activities in a way that reminds me a lot of the Clinton's and Whitewater. Is there any smoking gun? I don't think so.

What makes the stories compelling to me is the incontrovertible truth that Barack Obama presents no more of a fresh face to Washington politics as anyone else - and that he has got a whole new generation of "progressives" thinking otherwise. Sadly - the longterm contribution of the journalistic effort is likely to be lost in the dustbin of history. That doesn't make the stories any less accurate or compelling. Happy reading and stay away from Chicago politics.

Re: I'll assume you're legit for now (2.00 / 3)

You're really citing the racist No Quarter and rezkowatch as credible sources?

An actual credible source, the Chicago Tribune, has found absolutely no indication of any wrongdoing by the Obama campaign.

I think the comparisons of this to Whitewater are apt; just as reasonable people (i.e., people who aren't right-wing nuts) accept that the Clintons did absolutely nothing wrong in that affair, so too do such people accept that Obama did absolutely nothing wrong here.

Re: I'll assume you're legit for now (2.00 / 1)

The difference is the Clintons stonewalled on Whitewater even thought they were probably blameless, while Obama granted full document access and sat down with two newspaper editorial boards on the Rezko matter.  Not at all the same.

1 post with 21 rec's and another 8 with a combined 38

Not quite "well recommended"

That said, you are right this person is not a Troll, republican or otherwise and I should be more careful in the future.

This person is a Hillary supporter who says this..

I am concerned about the negative coverage of our candidates.  As a Clinton supporter I am somewhat pleased when Obama gets negative coverage and unhappy when Clinton gets the same.  But since I care about putting a Democrat in the White House, I don't want either of them so bloodied that we can't win the election in November.

Then post what they did today...

The two don't seem to match up..

hmm (2.00 / 2)

So my troll-dar not registering on the diarist so I will not spam the diary with fail pics (my normal response to trolls of any sort (including horrible ones like blowjobBillClinton [I think I got that one banned for it's name] ilikebillnot/WWGWD/rodhamclintonfeh (got 2 of those three handles banned) and the like.  A troll is a troll and the diarist doesn't come across like one.  However some of the commenters are in stage 1-2 of the 5 stages still (as evidenced by their defending NoQuarter against charges of racism-they have a diarist called "uppity" (any guess why that name was chosen for an Anti Obama site?).

I am guessing there are no trolls in this diary except MalUK (my troll dar is pinging but not strongly enough to go all out since I got burned on calling someone a Paul-Tard not too long ago).

One last note to the diarist: if the USA media refuses to report on something that could bring it huge profits (like an account Obama getting charged on corruption) then it likely isn't true.  The traditional media has a profit incentive.

As for michael Begala, I've submitted on him only once, on his next diary I'll hit Johnathon and Todd again (I suggest you do as well as the more numbers the better for getting trolls banned).

Re: hmm (2.00 / 2)

Posting pictures and harrassing any diarist lowers the quality of the site.  That is the method they use at DK and believe me there is no place lower.  If you think the diary is a "troll" diary, then just don't make statements in it.  There is no troll who is going to stay around when he is being ignored, and noone posts in the diary.  Really, the accusations and posts here lately are sickening, and juvenile fail pictures just  make it worse. I feel like this is a 5th grade blog anymore.

Re: I know I'm going to hate myself for asking... (2.00 / 1)

No Quarter has been around longer than this campaign. Larry Johnson is a former CIA agent and used to be respected blogger over at Daily Kos and his insight wrt the Valerie Plame debacle was very informative.
I'm sorry that this campaign has turned him into such a raving lunatic, frankly, but he used to be a Republican (I'm pretty sure), so it doesn't totally surprise me.

Re: Anybody know anything on the Evelyn Pringle Ob (2.00 / 2)

With respect, you'll have trouble getting good answers.  I posted a similar diary about a book that commented about Hillary's role in the Clinton White House and, despite my own support of her opponent, just wanted an honest critique of whether the facts in the book were true or not.  But the environment, right now, is such that you can't do such a think without being labeled a "concern troll" or something to that effect.  Hopefully it'll improve after June 3.
