HRC got a SD endorsement today!

HRC got a SD endorsement today!

http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/05/ superdelegate-endorsements-for-thursday_ 22.html

Guam Democratic Party Chair Pilar Lujan said today:

"After taking a close look at the candidates in this race, I was more impressed by Senator Clinton's ability to meet the challenges of the presidency: end the war, re-invigorate the economy, and provide universal health care...When she becomes the first woman president, she will think of the people of Guam and their aspirations."

Nice to see that HRC can still marshall support from the Democratic party Superdelegates given that Obama is only 61 delegates from the nomination. I like the positive language in her quote ("when she becomes the first woman president"!)

It is also good for HRC that, despite Obama's Oregon win and the fact that the media and pundits have tagged him as the presumptive nominee the SDs have been relatively frozen the last two days.

Pilar Lujan promised to back the winner of the Guam contest.

That's pretty much a promise broken.  But I'm glad the diarist left that out.

yep. (2.00 / 1)

it sucks when supers go against their constituencies.

Like Bill Richardson, Ben Chandler, and Joe Donnelly, to name a few.

Re: yep. (2.00 / 2)

Um.

They made no public declaration that they'd listen to their constituents and honor those results.

This person promised to support whoever won the Guam contest.  The others you listed didn't.

That's not the same thing.  Please acknowledge that.

Re: yep. (2.00 / 1)

She actually made the promise to support the winner while campaigning to get her job (as Party Chair). So it's even more of a double cross than you'd expect.

Wonder how much of her support came from pro-Obama forces.

Re: yep. (none / 0)

So.....?

Will you acknowledge that this person broke their public promise to their constituents?

Re: yep. (2.00 / 1)

They might do that.  When YOU acknowledge that Obama BROKE HIS PUBLIC PROMISE TO HIS CONSTITUENTS not to run for national office in 2008.

Re: yep. (none / 0)

Relevance?

I wasn't talking about Obama.  Why can't a lie be a bad thing without moral relativism?

Why can't we just stop playing gotcha and admit that this person gave their word WEEKS ago and broke it in as public a way as they could?

Why can't we just, oh I don't know, talk about the thing itself?

you're funny! (2.00 / 2)

you started by playing gotcha and then you tell someone not to do it.

Re: you're funny! (2.00 / 1)

I'm not playing gotcha with anyone with the person who broke a public promise.

None of the rest of you are the point, though I am concerned that apparently reality is defined by tribalism.

let me be clear... (none / 0)

i dont condone people breaking promises - but on the other hand where was the outrage when 2 HRC pledged - YES PLEDGED NOT SUPER delegates flipped to BO?  its hypocrisy that gets me.

Re: let me be clear... (2.00 / 1)

I said, AT THE TIME, on this freaking website that I did not agree with pledged elected delegates flipping like that.  There isn't a lick of hypocrisy to what I've said.

I went on the record and said something negative about him getting a delegate or two.  I have been consistent.  I have been intellectually honest.

Don't paint with too broad a brush, thank you very much.

Re: let me be clear... (none / 0)

its not directed at you specifically as i have not followed you commentary here closely - rather the hypocrisy in general.

im trying to dig up the link, but if the supers followed their constituencies as the BO camp said back in the winter - then im pretty sure HRC would be leading right now.  however this 'principle' apparently fell by the wayside when it longer benefitted your candidate. and therefore the media stopped talking about it.  oh well - i guess when the elections come up - the voters will have the last laugh to those that went against their wishes whether from guam or MA.

Re: you're funny! (none / 0)

Let's not forget the broken promises on John Lewis, Donald Payne, and Joe Andrews.  There's more than enough to go around.

double standard? (none / 0)

Do you have a double standard - for example should all of the SDs who originally came out for HRC and then switched to Obama meet with your disapproval or are you OK when the tables are turned?

Re: HRC got a SD endorsement today! (2.00 / 1)

Goes to show SD endorsements or commitments can change.  No such thing as a "pledged" SD.

Re: HRC got a SD endorsement today! (2.00 / 3)

Congrats.

Now she only needs another 243 out of the 295 remaining delegates.

Boy this is exciting.

I wonder how it will end.

We shall overcome. Yes we can.

Re: HRC got a SD endorsement today! (2.00 / 2)

I found this endorsement to be upsetting.  She was elected with an Obama supporter, saying she would reflect the will of the people.  So much for that eh?

Re: HRC got a SD endorsement today! (2.00 / 1)

well Hillary getting a single superdelegate IS big news. If this Pilar Lujan went for Obama, no one would have noticed.

maybe bobswern was right. Maybe a tidal wave is coming!

Maybe not.

From a Hillary supporter: We laughed as that became our mantra - "Barack can't win!"..... ....."he can go to hell and i'll pay for his way there."

Re: HRC got a SD endorsement today! (none / 0)

I like the positive language in her quote ("when she becomes the first woman president"!)

Oddly, if you replace that with "when hell freezes over," the meaning is unchanged:
When hell freezes over, she will think of the people of Guam and their aspirations.

At this point, they're no longer useful.
