What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton said the September 11 terror attack was "an attack on America, on our values, on our power, and on who we are as a people." Because Clinton identified herself as an American, her natural response was sympathy for those who lost their lives and to pray for them.  Even when six years passed she said on the anniversary of 9/11, "Today is a solemn occasion to keep in our prayers the men and women who lost their lives..."

I know someone who was in the Twin Towers when the first plane hit.  She is a young woman working in the financial services industry.  My friend was in the lobby at ground level of 2 WTC when the first plane hit 1 WTC at 8:46 a.m.  She went outside and saw the exploding building next door and the chaos.  She walked away from the towers till she reached a phone and called for help. My friend is lucky to have survived.  Unfortunately, thousands of people died that day. And the victims will be remembered for a long time.

The day after the terror while addressing an assembly at the Senate Clinton said, "to all of those who are missing a loved one, there are no words any of us can express, except to tell you in the clearest possible terms we will -- in a united American response -- support you, offer assistance to you, stand with you..."

And that, in my opinion, is the best response in the wake of the attacks: to offer support concrete and spiritual. Hillary Clinton is an American leader who offered her strength to those who were harmed by anti-Americans. She rallied America to be strong and proud and not let the anti-Americans intimidate us.  I guess they thought by breaking the Twin Towers they could break us.  But the day after the attacks Clinton defied the anti-Americans by stating boldly, "...we are united and stronger than ever."

The September 11 tragedy is a window to view Hillary Clinton's ability to lead America. She is an American leader because she is loyal to America, rallying to our defense when we were attacked.  Not everyone defended us, but she did.

Clinton is an American leader because she provided concrete benefit to Americans. Clinton made homeland security one of her top issues after 9/11, focusing on funding for recovery from the attacks and for improving security in the New York City area. She worked with Senator Schumer to obtain $21.4 billion to assist clean up and recovery, to provide health tracking for first responders and volunteers at Ground Zero, and to create grants for redevelopment.

And Clinton is an American leader because she is spiritually connected to America and Americans.  She said we should pray for the victims of 9/11.  And this is crucial because it is what unites us the most: The Spirit of America. The Spirit is strong and unbreakable. The Spirit is with Clinton, and when America unites with her we are strong and unbreakable.  There are many reasons to vote for Clinton such as that she would be able to fix the economy and strengthen the military and I have written about that before (on other blogs).  I wrote this post to say that what I like best about Hillary Clinton is that she is united with The Spirit of America and I believe that is a quality every president should have.

I agree with you 100%.

But where I suspect you won't agree with me is that I think Obama has quality as well.

John McCain wants to stay in Iraq.

Re: What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton (2.00 / 4)

Yesterday someone posted a diary complaining that Hillary supporters should write positive diaries about why they like her.  This is a great diary; Obama is not even mentioned.  It's not about him, not everything is.

Very true, and if he/she puts a tip jar up I'll happily recommend it.  I am merely saying I understand why she's proud- I feel the same way about both Clinton and Obama in this regard, and am curious to see if he/she agrees.

Re: What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton (none / 0)

Because of Hillary's dire campaign position, everything about her is automatically about Obama, who she must displace. The opposite is not true, only because Obama vs McCain is a far more pertinent comparison, given the circumstances.

Re: What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton (none / 0)

Which is exactly why my point is true - because Clinton continues to contest the race, Obama is relevant any time she's part of the conversation.

Re: What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton (none / 0)

"Why Hillary is good" always comes across better than "Why Barack is bad" and vice versa. Rec'd.

Re: What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton (2.00 / 4)

Excellent diary!  Recommended!  :)

Kristen Breitweiser, a 9/11 widow wrote the following:

One of the reasons I support Hillary Clinton is because of the enormous help Senator Clinton gave to the 9/11 families who were fighting to create a 9/11 Commission.

My experience in Washington showed me that there were very few people who understood what needed to be done and even fewer people who had the courage, stamina, and ability to get those things done.

Hillary Clinton was one of those people. And without fail, anytime we needed help -- whether that was achieving bi-partisan consensus, strong-arming the White House and/or House Republicans, or cajoling reluctant and recalcitrant Democrats like Lieberman, Senator Clinton always took the call and helped solve the problem.

I might add that for someone whose husband, former President Bill Clinton, was a point of investigation for the 9/11 Commission, it certainly did not play in Senator Clinton's favor to have something like the 9/11 Commission impaneled. Yet, Senator Clinton was one of our biggest, fiercest, and most vocal advocates for the creation of a 9/11 Commission.

Re: What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton (2.00 / 2)

Great diary. For this and Hillary's unyielding dedication to this country, her years of service, and her graceful handling of years of attacks and smears by the RAM, the MSM, and members of her own party, I support her 110%. She has never been sidelined from the work needing to be done and the long road ahead. I stand with Hillary all the way (to the convention floor).

Re: What I Like Best About Hillary Clinton (2.00 / 1)

Hillary's is gaining support, those who have been fed a negative line about her have had the opportunity to see her for themselves, the more you see of her the more you like her. Her plans are solid and in accordance with the values of our party.  She's working hard to win the nomination and I think that her hard work will pay off, and she'll be our nom.  She is far better than any of the others who've been in the race, to my mind.  But what I like best is her cheerfulness, she doesn't look annoyed or depressed, and she knows how to listen and she can take those hits without whining. She's a role model for future generations of girls, and she's a role model for this old girl too.

Here's a chance for a nice-pro Hillary diary to be ignored by those who don't think so highly of her, and would blog here just to try to make everyone feel bad.  Fight your inclinations, if you have them, go somewhere else if you want to smear Hillary.  If you want to write in support of someone else, go or start a pro-whoever diary, don't try to turn everything positive said about her into a veiled attack on someone else.  It's a chance to practice charm.
