End our 50-year national nightmare: Vote Obama!

(Here's a letter-to-the-editor that will be printed in my local paper here in North Carolina. Permission hereby granted to use any part or all of it in letters to your hometown papers.)

When you vote this year, I encourage you to vote against William Ayers and the radical political extremism of the 1960s.

Vote against Rev. Wright, Pastor Hagee, David Dukes, Louis Farrakhan, and the religious and racial polarization of the 1970s.

Vote against "trickle-down economics" and the fiscally irresponsible deficits of the 1980s.

Vote against Bill Clinton and the immorality, scandals, and political gridlock of the 1990s.

Vote against George Bush, the Iraq War, the recession, and more-of-the-same McCain.

But it's not enough just to be against things. You have to stand for something, too.

You can vote to end this 50-year national nightmare that pits us against one another by exploiting our fears.

You can vote for the man who has the know-how and skill to fix the problems that we face in 2008.

You can vote for the person whose campaign is based on the fact that when Americans are united and we put our shoulders to the wheel, there is nothing we can not do.

You can vote for your family's future. You can vote your values, traditions, hopes, and dreams. You can vote for a better America.

You can vote for Barack Obama.

Wow, what a pointless diary:

Attacking Bill Clinton?

50-States is less likely with Obama than with Clinton.

Enough said.

"Pointless" might be a little exteme. (none / 0)

And although the Obama campaign has been classy enough not to dredge up the underbelly of the Clinton years, do you really think McCain and the Republicans will let this sleeping dog lie if Hillary gets the nomination?

Congrats. (none / 0)

That is very nice and it has an authentic hometown ring to it.  Congrats on getting published.

Although I must say I'm a little surprised to see an Obama endorsement that opens with references to Ayers, Wright, and Farrakhan.  :-)

Different, yes, but... (none / 0)

...do you think it passes the "testicular fortitude" test?

somehow I doubt (none / 0)

that you lived through those horrible 50 years, well I did, and while you can find lots of atrocious events and non-events over that time frame, you can also find the rise of the civil rights movement, the participation of thugs like bill clinton and other evil peeps in that time.

more than anything, these plaintive wails for an end to the last 50 years represents naivite on parade, politics has been, is now, and always will be a knock down, drag out fight, of ideas, personalities and character.

posing and posturing about how one man is going to change the tide of history reflects a sad lack of knowledge about our nation's history. Yes, America has been the repository of many bad things, bill clinton having illicit sex, richard nixon NOT having same, it could have helped.

go ahead, trash the past, when good meaning blacks and whites fought against the harsh segregation in alabama and other places, showing more decency than a pile of latte sipping elitists dreaming about utopia.

this whole obama change thing is wearing thin, where is the change, we are discussing chickens coming home to roost, race, race, race, race and more race and class, class, class.

where is this change? i doubt it exists, other than in the fertile imaginations of dreamy two shoed goodfooters who have little aquaintance with history, just fiction.

You mis-read me. (none / 0)

First, I did live through these 50 years.

Second, nowhere did I discount or discredit the accomplishments (led by Democrats) during that time. I'm calling for an end to the divisiveness (that was also part of this half-century) which has been exploited by both parties to prevent even more progress. Obama's entire approach is based upon reconciliation and moving past these old hurts. That is the point.

Re: You mis-read me. (2.00 / 2)

The only problem with that approach is the republicans. They don't want to "reconcile" with Democrats.

"""Second, nowhere did I discount or discredit the accomplishments (led by Democrats) during that time. I'm calling for an end to the divisiveness....."""

So you only discredit the accomplishments led by Republicans , yet you want to end the diviseness.

Somehow I don't think the reThugs are going to fall for it.

his health plan is unacceptable. and list go on.

HRC today and tomorrow (2.00 / 1)

I vote HRC, either as nominee or write in. I will never soil my vote for this elmer ganty.

This diary is just more evidence of why I have developed a genuine loathing for Obama and his supporters.
