Special Delivery for Elizabeth Dole

Many of you have already seen the race-baiting ad sponsored by the NCGOP that's been floating around the web.

John McCain, fearless leader that he is took a stand against the ad saying it was inappropriate.

The NCGOP showed its respect for John McCain by completely ignoring him and following through with their plans to run the ad.  The head bigot at the NCGOP, Linda Daves, remains completely oblivious to the racist content of the ad.  You can view the MSNBC interview with Linda Daves on Pam's post at BlueNC.

Today, Pam Spaulding, from Pam's House Blend and NCDem Amy, who writes at BlueNC and MoBetterChange visited Elizabeth Dole's office in Raleigh, NC to deliver a letter with over 1200 signatures requesting that Elizabeth Dole do what she can as the top elected GOP official in NC to see that the ad is pulled.  The letter and signatures were collected thanks to Jane Hamsher and the good folks at Firedoglake, Pam's House Blend and BlueNC.

In an earlier post I mentioned this ad and was asked if I thought it would benefit Hillary Clinton.  Initially I wasn't thinking along those lines.  I felt from the beginning, and still do, that the ad will backfire on the NCGOP.   However, it does appear that the ad that looks like the NCGOP's attempt to hurt both leading gubernatorial candidates will wind up hurting Barack Obama.  Is it enough to cost him the state?  I don't know.  What do you think?

I don't think it's enough to cost Obama North Carolina, but I bet Republicans hope it is.

Personally, I agree (none / 0)

Several stations have refused to air the ad and I think it has become more about the ad than the content of the ad.

Why? (2.00 / 1)

It seems pretty clear we know who the Republican Party is pulling for in the Democratic contest.

Re: Why? (2.00 / 1)

From everything I've seen, Republicans are very eager to have Clinton as the nominee.

Re: Why? (none / 0)

WHat?  They air an ad attacking Obama and you thinkn they're pulling for Hillary?

The GOP has very limimted resources, and if they thought an ad featuring Hillary would give them greater impact, they would attach Hillary's image to their ads.

It's plain to see thye would LOVE Obama as their opposition:  He is a polarizing, divisive figure in NC that would throw a lot of white folks over to the GOP.

Can't win NC with just the Blacks, 1/3 of the NC electorate which Obama would win at 85% turnout for 1/4, and college students and limo lib set, which would bring him to 40-45%%.

NC would not even be in play, as the National polls OBama-McCain head-to-head show.

Re: Why? (none / 0)

This ad is supposedly for a race that is not until November (NC Governor).  If they were truly interested in impacting that race, then they wouldn't be spending their limited resources on ads now.

Can you think of any race in NC that is coming up soon?  It's clear which side the Republican party is on in that race and they're trying to affect that race so that they avoid the tougher candidate in November.

Re: Why? (none / 0)

One more thing.  Why would I look to any national poll to determine whether a particular state would be in play?  I'd prefer to look at polls in that actual state.  Like the last Rasmusen which showed a tie between Obama-McCain, while Clinton is -11.  Or, the last SUSA which shows Obama -2 vs. McCain and Clinton -8.

Re: Special Delivery for Elizabeth Dole (2.00 / 1)

I will be quite surprised if Dole answers her hundreds of consituents, those who signed the petition, on this.

Afterall, she doesn't seem to feel beholden to the people of North Carolina.

I also want to mention that as soon as we walked into the building, I was told to cut off my camera and was not allowed to take a camera into her office. Hmmm...

Thanks for the post, Betsy!

Dems against racism (1.00 / 1)

nice to see that many Dems haven't followed Clinton's lead and thus know racism when they see it, and fight against it.

Re: Dems against racism (2.00 / 2)

Hillary Clinton has nothing to do with this vile ad and your implication that she is a racist is a digusting lie.

Re: Special Delivery for Elizabeth Dole (none / 0)

I'm sick of everything being 'race baiting' or 'racist'. If Senator Clinton or any other white democrat had a 'way over the top' spiritual advisor, friend and pastor for over 20 years and the GOP had some of the white pastors 'rants' on tape...the anti- democrat, pro-republican attack ad on the two democratic candidates in NC would be showing the white person with their crackpot pastor if the democratic candidates had supported Hillary (or some other white democrat).

The ad is poor taste. It's meant to hurt the two dem nominees in NC running against a rep. and just because Obama is black and Rev. Wright is Black it is not 'race baiting'.

As far as who it will hurt? I don't know what impact it would have Obama except the ad paints he and the other two candidates as too extreme for NC. Would hurt all three somewhat.
