GOP Disintegration

Hi folks!

Here's something from Newsmax that we can actually take at face value.  When they attack us god only knows what their intentions really are, but when they attack themselves we know they are seriously concerned.

Viguerie: Republican Leaders Must Resign

The Republican Party must replace its leadership or conservatives will continue to withhold support and the GOP will face "disaster" in November, leading conservative activist Richard A. Viguerie declared.

Viguerie made these points:

o  The number of new Republican voters is flat while Democratic voter registration is soaring.

o  Contributions to Republican candidates and committees are way off, while donations to Democrats are "setting records."

o  In this year's primaries, votes for GOP candidates at all levels are running far behind the Democrats.

o  In recent special elections, Republicans lost House seats in Illinois, Louisiana, and Mississippi that had long been in GOP hands -- all in districts carried overwhelmingly by President Bush. A single election can be a fluke, but when Republicans lose three seemingly safe seats in a row, "disaster is looming."

"The hard work of the last 50 years by millions of conservative campaign workers, donors, candidates, writers, intellectuals, and activists has been trashed," he said.

Ah, I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

As a centrist I am now concerned that the Democratic party could become too powerful over the next few years without any viable check to balance against.  I am not concerned about Senator Obama's odds of winning the General Election in November.  A win by the GOP would be just short of miraculous.

But, let's take a look at what NewSmacks think is their one golden road to success.  Note that I already stated that we cannot fully trust what they say about us, but given that caveat let's hear their thoughts.

As Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton barnstorms across the nation in her quest for the White House, is she doing the Democratic Party more harm than good, and in fact, really helping the GOP?

Newsmax Magazine's special report "She Can Save the GOP" reveals why Clinton could be the ideal Democratic candidate -- IF Republicans hope to retain control of the White House. The report also reveals why some top Democrats desperately want to dump her from the '08 ticket.

Dick Morris has some astonishing insights gleaned from knowing Hillary for almost 30 years -- many of which he served as her chief adviser and confidante. Morris explains Hillary's "fatal flaw" -- one Republicans must exploit to defeat her.

OK,so we know what these turkeys say, but what do they think?  My bias as an Obama supporter may cloud my thoughts so I will withhold judgement, but I would be interested in hearing the thoughts of others.

It is clear, regardless, that the only path to failure for the Democratic party is one that we pave ourselves.  Simply looking at the Democrat primary turnout and enthusiasm compared to the GOP's it is obvious to anyone not nose-to-page that one side is having a huge period of growth while the other is barely able to maintain a pulse.

-cheers to November, 2008!

Newsmax = good? (none / 0)

First, don't read newsmax.  Its evil even when it is reporting something we like.

Second,  I would prefer for the GOP to not recognize  they are screwed until it is too late.  I am not sure we are there yet.  The longer they don't change their tactical plans and policies, the better off we will be.  Based on this view I think the article is actually bad news.

Good lord, no. (none / 0)

First - I read everything and engage everyone.  I'm an equal opportunity debater (don't sit next to me on a plane if you value your peace and quiet).

I have had plenty of debates with actual Nazis, for example, so simply reading the words of the extreme-mainstream-right is a cake walk.

Don't worry.  I have very good antimalware running in my head... ;~)

Second - A good piece on NPR on Friday discussed commentary from deep in the GOP that indicates they've seen this coming for a long time.  Indeed I would be quite surporised if they did not, or for that matter if most outside observers did not see the same.  It as been overwhelmingly obvious to me (right-center indie) for at least two years, and I have focused my political intent on the Democratic party ever since.

This is not something they can fix overnight, and in fact I very much doubt that there is any consensus internal to the highest rank on wtf to do.  IMHO they need to rebrand the whole damn thing, shake the Religious Right Veto situation and move back towards the center.

At least one GOP insider was quoted as saying it could take 10-15 years to return to a position of strength.

-cheers!

Re: GOP Disintegration (none / 0)

Why does Dick Morris hate the Clintons so much? Seriously, I've never seen anyone so bitter in politics towards two people...

Seriously, they are just used to doing it.

Epect them to lash out in the extreme in the GE.  A cornered animal is the least predictable.

Re: GOP Disintegration (none / 0)

It's a vanity thing.

He thought he was the smartest guy in Washington.  Bill Clinton let him think that and used him- used him up- against the Republicans to win reelection in 1996.  Then let him go when the national mood shifted against Republicans in 1997/98.  Morris has been bitter about being proven just a useful idiot- a partisan Republican who helped a moderate-liberal Democrat win the Presidency in a Republican year and environment- ever since.

Of course, all he has done since just demonstrates that he is is exactly the clever idiot that Clinton saw in him.
