Can MyDDers Measure Up To Obama's Unity Message

After listening to Barack Obama's speech I was touched by his message of power of the people and specifically all Democratic ideals that can drive this country to a new set of change.  He talked about that it is not about John or Barack or Hillary it is about each of us who will ultimately change this country...

No matter who you supported in the beginning, who you are supporting now, the question is can we all rise up as Americans and MyDDers to live the Barack Obama message of unity and people powered change.  That change requires hard work and healing new and old wounds from all Democrats, Independents and even like-minded Republicans who are tired of the status quo and want real change.

As I have predicted for weeks and even to some of you months, this primary will come to a natural end and we will come together, Barack Supporters, John Supporters and even Hillary Supporters to defeat the continuation of the GWB policies of "No".  Can we get past our ideological differences to support common goals or are we going to divide ourselves between Progressives, Moderates, Conservatives, DINOs, DLCers, Hillabots, Obamacrats, and even disaffected 3rd party leaners?
As we think about what we are blogging about and writing for, we need to all remember the world is watching not Barack Obama but what we as Net Roots are saying.  Are we saying that the administration has a litmus test for progressives only or are we saying we have principles of change and if you want that change you are welcome no matter what your background is, no matter what primary candidate you supported.

As we go forward as proud participants in this grand change opportunity, lets work together to show the world how we can be for positive change.  When the RedState trolls come over here and doubt us we welcome them to help with the change, we recognize that they are part of the people who are afraid of change and are vested in the status quo.  That means that we recognize that change is not about us, them, or this candidate or that candidate but about all Americans who can come together and change this country for the next 100 years.

Are we going to have disagreements, sure.  Are there going to be hard policy choices and compromises along the way, you bet there will be, but for every hour and every dollar and every minute we pour our hearts into coming together for change across this country in every state for every Senate race and every House seat, we will be providing one more vote for change to make a difference.  We may not win every race or every battle, but the message will be clear even for the congressional candidates who beat our candidates, they can either be part of change or get move out of the way.

I believe our party was blessed with so many great candidates for POTUS, they all contributed in their own way to where we are today.  We are on the verge of historical change with a historical movement of force many of us have not seen in our lifetimes.  I hope we can all embrace the unity and change that Barack and John spoke about tonight so eloquently.
In short, are we going to get back to our MyDD roots of electing Democrats and changing the country one lurker/blogger at a time?

We need all of the people who look up to these factions within our party in order to get the kind of massive mandate at the ballot box necessary to get the change that Barack needs our help achieving.
Can We Do It...YES WE CAN
Peace...Go Democrats!!!  (All of them who are nominated)

I'm not sure how people think (none / 0)

that we can lose in November. It does not compute. John McCain will have his ass handed to him in an ass sandwich, with cheese.

Re: Can MyDDers Measure Up To Obama's Unity Messag (2.00 / 1)

The more salient questions is can Obama supporters measure up to a unity message. Given their booing of John Edwards when he praised Hillary Clinton I think we have the answer.

They did not boo... (none / 0)

when Obama mentioned her name...there is hope

Re: Can MyDDers Measure Up To Obama's Unity Messag (none / 0)

I would agree that they should not do that.  But as Edwards spoke for a few minutes, those boos turned to or were overwhelmingly drowned out by cheers.  Some people are idiots.  That's pretty obvious.  But I think the VAST majority of bad behavior by either side's supporters will disappear once this is settled.

No way. No how. No McCain.

Re: (none / 0)

The booing seems to be a problem with Obama supporters.

Has there ever been an instance where Hillary supporters booed Obama at a rally?

Sure, MyDD will come together. (none / 0)

Because I trust Jerome to ban anyone who bashes the nominee, once it's official.

by sricki on Wed May 14, 2008 at 08:38:30 PM EST

I will vote for the nominee (none / 0)

but quite frankly, I choose to remain more of the same and not to 'unify' with Obama's 'message.' Thank you for asking.
by linc on Wed May 14, 2008 at 08:42:11 PM EST

If you mean (none / 0)

will MyDD become just like Daily Kos, then my answer is I hope not.

Re: Can MyDDers Measure (none / 0)

Great diary! I think 95% of us will be able to unify and the rest will be offset by McCain's troubles with the republican base (R voters staying home, voting thrid party).

We've all got to do our best to pull ourselves out from primary fatigue. It'll help when the rest of the D party comes together around our candidate. It will help even more when people start seeing McCain's campaign ads on Healthcare and Civil Liberties.
