start working FOR, not AGAINST.

all over the blogosphere and media we keep hearing 'IT'S OVER' even time magazine had the chutzpah to put this on their cover.  oh well.  more likely its as BC says: "whenever someone tells you you can't win, its because they are afraid you will."

and as 4justice said:

"Whether 'presumptive', 'likely' nominee, that's fine as long as we can agree right now that although likely, he is not the party's nominee until the August convention.

If his supporters are confident in him, and if the candidate is confident himself, then people might want to shift focus from beating up HRC for finishing the primary season, or suggesting she is doing this to "damage" Obama.  He can't be truly damaged by her if he is the "presumptive" nominee, or by the primary season finishing out and letting all of America vote.

Start working for the candidate, not against HRC, again, especially if you truly believe Obama is the nominee. Start working FOR, not AGAINST"

that is the point my friends.  while it seems that bashing has become a sport, in continuing to contribute to this divide - you are helping to ensure a republican wh come november.

Re: start working FOR, not AGAINST. (2.00 / 1)

As I said in the original diary this is from, regardless of Obama's presumptive or actual nominee status Sen. Clinton can still hurt him severely if she chose to. All that's happened is we've passed the point where there is any possibility of that achieving anything hurting us all.

That being said, I whole heartedly support the idea here. We're all on the same side, and regardless of how it may feel at times we have infinitely more in common than we do dividing us.

As BC would say... (1.50 / 4)

whenever someone tells you you can't win, its because they are afraid you will.

Thank you. Now I know why many MyDDers keep on saying that Obama can't win in November.

Re: It's Because They Are Afraid (1.50 / 2)

whenever someone tells you you can't win, its because they are afraid you will.

I'm afraid the Democratic Party will install Barack Obama as the nominee out of fear that John McCain is having a free ride right now.

I'm afraid that the Democratic Party is de-legitimizing itself by disenfranchising 2.3 million voters in Florida and Michigan for the nominating process.

I'm afraid that the Democratic Party is purging the nomination process of experience, qualifications, wisdom and accomplishment, in favor of charisma, charm, and swoons at rallies--the weakest candidate possible--and that it will be devastating to Democrats in November.

I'm afraid that the Democratic Party has decided to purge the entire South from the party altogether, instead of forging ties with white working class voters, and will give the Republican Party its best opportunity to enlarge and expand ITS base at the expense of the Democratic Party for another generation. The Democratic Party has decided the Reagan Democrats are not worth fighting for; they've decided they don't want them, and can build a new base without them--even though the only time in the last 40 years that Democrats have won, was when they won white/working class/blue collar voters as well as AA voters, senior voters, Hispanic/Latino voters, and women--a broad coalition befitting Big Tent Democrats. Instead, I am afraid that this Democratic Party is banking on purging these constituencies and making the Democratic Party the party of a narrow, limited base, and that it will have disastrous consequences in this election, and in elections to come, despite this being our best opportunity to take the White House.

Re: start working FOR, not AGAINST. (none / 0)

Excuse me but there's a thread on the rec list called "Hillary supporters - time to kick butt!"

Whose butt is she talking about kicking?  Perhaps you can lecture your own people - we're fine here.

by Jordache on Mon May 12, 2008 at 01:31:46 AM EST

Re: start working FOR, not AGAINST. (2.00 / 2)

If you read the diary you would know she was kicking the Hillary supporters butt's to get back to cracking on campaigning for her. In other words...kick butt FOR Hillary, not against anyone. This race isn't over.

Uhh, that's fine, I'm happy to do so... but Senator Clinton can easily damage Obama's campaign, no matter what you call him.

It's not over till the vote is taken in Aug.  He can parade around all summer looking over his shoulder. Because until then he does not have the nomination

by orion1 on Mon May 12, 2008 at 07:11:13 AM EST

Re: start working FOR, not AGAINST. (none / 0)

You are correct, Sir.  He is the Presumptive nominee as he leads in:

1) Popular Vote

  1. States Won
  2. Pledged Delegates Won
  3. Super Delegates Won

In August, he will be installed as the Democratic Nominee.

There are encouraging signs (2.00 / 2)

I think most Obama supporters have dialed back the rhetoric somewhat, and would like to see a nice positive campaign for this final 3 weeks. I was originally concerned about Hillary's "white" comments of a few days ago, but I think her campaign has dialed back the rhetoric as well.

Fellow Obama supporters need to take less offense at the occasional Obama bashing diary and treat those writers as individuals. I've seen many signs that the rhetoric from Clinton supporters has cooled down a little too. (Heck, I even AGREED with Canadian Gal the other day. Wait. Does this make twice!)

At this point things are pretty much playing themselves out however they will, and if things get nasty again between the candidates it will be the supers who deal with that, not us.

Bottom line is that I think it's still OK to incinerate supporters on either side who are just dirtying things up, but for most posters here and elsewhere, when you have someone in your sights and are about to pull the trigger on your rhetorical flamethrower, look again. That's a fellow progressive in those cross-hairs and maybe a nerf gun would be a better weapon.
