Hillary on Ellen Unveils Breast Cancer Cure Plan

A Cure Within Our Lifetime: Hillary unveils her plan to find a cure for breast cancer within our lifetime on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today. Hillary’s plan would provide $300 million a year in increased funding for breast cancer research at the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.

And this cannot come too soon.  The numbers are quickly increasing all over the world, even in countries in Asia where traditionally they had the lowest incidence of Breast Cancer, they are seeing increases.  Still not anywhere as close as in the United States, where even Asian women who move to the United States increases their chance of getting Breast Cancer by 80 percent.  In our country, moving from 1-8 women to 1-7 to develop the disease.  We need to find a cure for this disease as soon as possible.

So first, don't forget to tune in to watch Ellen today and see Hillary unveil her plan.  Then next, help to make sure this will happen.  Volunteer some time to make sure we have a President Hillary so she can move us forward to help solve the many challenges we face.  Make calls, deliver signs, go door to door to speak with voters and/or DONATE We're Americans.  We will make good change happen if we have the Commander in Chief who wants this change!

As the New York Times announced today:

Clinton Announces Cancer Research Effort

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A proposal by Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton would provide $300 million a year in increased government funding on breast cancer research, focusing on treatment and exploring possible genetic and environmental triggers for the disease.

The presidential hopeful and former first lady discussed her plan with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on her television show, which was scheduled to air Monday. As president, Clinton told DeGeneres, she would set a goal of finding a cure for the disease within 10 years.

Clinton's pplan would increase funding for breast cancer research and treatment through programs at the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.

It would also help more low-income women gain access to screenings like mammograms by making them more affordable. Among other things, she would eliminate Medicare co-payments for mammograms.

Clinton also planned to propose a new program to explore racial disparities in diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

This touches on several other important points.  The need for us to have a Universal Health Care.  We know lower income individuals suffer undiagnosing the most, because they don't have health care that enables prevention and maintenance.  If we don't cover everyone, the most vulnerable and the ones who need the most help will still go uncovered and then when they seek emergency care, the costs will continually spiral out of control.  And yet, caught late, their chances for survival are much worse.

I know this all too well.  Recently I just had a Breast MRI diagnostic test done.  This one test alone cost $3,700.00.  How many can afford these kind of expenses for diagnosing, preventive or maintanence for your health care? And if you don't have Health Insurance, you have to pay that full price.

Let's make the kind change that will be good change for all of us!

That would be great... (2.00 / 4)

And it would be nice for the media to pause in their "Hillary is DEAD!!!" proclamations to report what she's planning to do to put an end to breast cancer.

No way, no how, no McCain! :-)

whining about the media not covering substance (none / 0)

seems disingenuous when HRC supporters spend far more time trashing Obama and complaining about the primary rules.

No, we're obvservant folks and are quite GENUINE in noting the media bias......as is now being reported in tiny small pockets of that media and mocked on SNL.  It's a certain.

wouldn't it?  Maybe 3rd times the charmer.  Don't you think they are embarrased that they keep doing this?  Do they think we don't see?  Do they think we will forget they've abused our airwaves this way?

I guess they feel they should finally get their reward for distorting, lying and attacking Hillary, but pushing Obama that they are preemptively calling it again against Hillary.  When she came back the other two times they kept repeating their false stories, when she does again, that means she will be PRESIDENT!  And the mysogynistic media will just have to deal with THE PEOPLE CHOSE HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT!

this is great.  Breast Cancer runs in my family and I worry about it a lot.

I was shocked the other day (2.00 / 0)

when I read that one in seven women will get breast cancer.  I have no idea that the number was that high.  It's scary.

Re: I was shocked the other day (2.00 / 0)

I had to break the news to my sisters and my mother that we now had a family history that puts them at greater risk.

We need to find the elements causing this very serious and growing disease.  Hormones are a huge factor.  With at least 30 pct of HRT developing it.  It not longer is "chance", it's a likely, but there are many more others being affected and why.

You realize how frequent that 1 in 7 is, when you talk to so many other people and they confide in you they too are a survivor.  From your Dental Hygenist to the Customer Service Rep at your Insurance provider.  That's where these numbers are coming from.

And then, finally, a cure. :)  We must work towards that.

What a pander. (none / 0)

Now she's trying to cure cancer to get the votes of older women. There's nothing she won't stoop to. This is a new low for her, right after proposing to fight poverty by appointing a cabinet-level position to end poverty as we know it.

Just can't trust her at all.

Don't worry, it's snark. Check my comments and diaries. I'm for Hillary all the way to the convention, and am close to maxing out.

Re: is this snark? (none / 0)

Some of the comments on the NYT website after she proposed the anti-poverty position were indeed just like this, so perhaps I should have been more careful. Did people ever hate John Kerry or Al Gore this way? Maybe some Republicans feel this way about McCain? It's just nuts.

Re: is this snark? (none / 0)

Al Gore, yes.  Kerry, they just didn't respect.

The hardcore Democrats like Al Gore and Hillary usually draw that kind of hate from the extreme right, because they ....as they said "ozone man" and "she dared try to pass Universal Health Care " who don't care for the idea of America.  It's just when supposed Democrats fall prey to mind manipulation in repeating those RW attacks as if it were fact is the most disconcerting.

Re: What a pander. (none / 0)

She already has the votes of older women. You sound like someone who is lucky enough to not have anyone in your family who has that disease. Typical of Obama voters, who think only about themselves and their needs. Oh, wait, they don't have any needs, because they already belong to the privileged class who can do well no matter what happens in the world.

Re: Hillary on Ellen Unveils Breast (2.00 / 0)

Hey you guys out there, don't think it's all about us women.  Although the incidence is low (less than 1%), many men each year are diagnosed with breast cancer.  My husband was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 49, and he had a double mastectomy.  Since his was caught early (and luckily we live near Boston, so he goes to the Dana Farber) his prognisis is very good.  With 1 in 7 odds for women, 1 in 100 looks much better - unless you're the 1.  Since we have 3 daughters, they suggested he get a BRCA (sp?)test - which I remember was obscenely expenseive, but luckily our insurance covered it. I know not everybody is as lucky.

Yes, thank you for mentioning this.  And I too fear, if we continue to muzzle investigation and cause, this number will be increasing too.

My heart to you and your hubby.  I hope he will be cured.

Re: Hillary on Ellen Unveils Breast Cancer Cure Pl (none / 0)

now that's what leadership means, THAT is what 'hope' and 'change' is all about. she doesn't have to just say HOPE and CHANGE, she's giving substance that just screams out all its own HOPE and CHANGE.
