Move-on or another progressive organization should run a commercial that educates Americans on McCain's relationship with Hagee. The media is so obsessed with the Wright narrative, that they failed to adequately describe the relationship between McCain and Hagee and a Moveon commercial would provide that needed publicity. We are going to have to run an agressive campaign this fall because we know who we are running against - a corrupt party and a passive press.
Two can play this game. The DNC should not wait until after the primary to start "defining" McCain, because the media is giving him a free pass. I read another diary (which was fantastic) that sourced today's NY Times editorial that wondered if a little racism was at play in the manner that the media handled this story. McCain has not been asked to constantly condemn his association with Hagee. Apparantly, that one statement was enough for the MSM, despite Hagee apparant influnce on the Republican party and its policies. Despite the media's reputation as "liberal", they have a long way to go in recognizing that African-Americans are distinct individuals capable of thought and one person does not speak for the entire race.
JOHN McCAIN (February 27, 2008): I'm very honored by Pastor John Hagee's endorsement today.
From the NY Times - It is an injustice, a legacy of the racist threads of this nation's history, but prominent African-Americans are regularly called upon to explain or repudiate what other black Americans have to say, while white public figures are rarely, if ever, handed that burden.
Senator John McCain has continued to embrace a prominent white supporter, Pastor John Hagee, whose bigotry matches that of Mr. Wright. Mr. McCain has not tried hard enough to stop a race-baiting commercial -- complete with video of Mr. Wright -- that is being run against Mr. Obama in North Carolina.
As we all know, McCain has also sought the endorsements of other fringe, radical extremists and the media still continues this narrative that McCain is a "moderate" and enjoys the support of a bi-partisan support like that fake a%@ Lieberman.
And do you all remember the Keating Five? Why isn't that mentioned in his narrative? What about the way his campaign is ignoring the very campaign laws that he championed? Doesn't that say a lot about his character? In addition, why is he campaigning in the South? I thought the Republican party had a lock on South? Is it because African-American voters in the South are voting in record numbers? Are those states suddenly in play? We got to keep our eyes on the prize! We can win this!
BTW - Another diarist referenced Rachel Maddow's reference to Hagee's potential impact on policy in a McCain administration. Why isn't she the host of Morning Joe instead of that jackass named Joe? She is the only voice of reason on that network. Between his constant interuptions of panel guests to make his jackass observations, I'm ready to break my tv.
