even if other sites don't.
Well, the smite button should probably be used on almost anything that makes the recommended list here, unfortunately.
bad idea here and for exactly the same reasons.
Trust your Admins.
i agree with the intention of the diary - but am with hornbeck - let the admins work the room.
I put on my wizard hat?
Its not a bad idea, though I also imagine that the potential for abuse probably outweighs the potential benefit.
Perhaps if instead of punishing the diary directly, it basically puts the diary on the fast track for admins to review it. Gives it a Red Flag, if you will. It would definitely be nice to have an option other than Recommend or Silence.
That would be better, and a varying degrees of red flags depending on how accurate a person has been in the past (if someone flags everything they are likely to be ignored etc.)
I like the varying degrees. Perhaps some way to specifically flag things like "Repeats", which could be separate from "Inaccurate" and the more general "Troll/Offensive".
I think that what you proposed - a fast track for admin review - probably makes the most sense and decreases the possibility that the feature would be abused.
Admins got the first diary. Sometimes they're on it. But they're fairly busy people I can imagine, and a flagging system might make it easier on everyone.
an above comment made the case for me.
I would be nice to be able to flag diaries as repeats, inaccurate or trollish.
The moderators of this site should offer you a full time position =)
I think I am a little overzealous to be given that power. I would probably attack diaries that are just on the right side of the divide, but the diaries I mentioned are pure bunk.
Here's hoping that the second one (i.e. the lies about Clinton taking RightWing.com PAC money) gets zapped.
I think your system may be counter productive...
Right now, it is very easy to spot the hit diaries. Your system would impose a quality control on them... they may become harder to spot.
And with a large enough fan following, one could write a hit diary that could be rated favorably.
I am not suggesting that it will happen...just that it might.
(In other words, I am old, and I do not like change =)
in nature.
I guess there is a trade off of more poor diaries that are easier to spot, or fewer that don't get caught at all.
