Ready to Lead on Day One

Cross posted at Pagan Power

There has been much made out of Hillary's oft repeated claim that she is the person best suited to be President on Day One. It is a standard line in her stump speeches. But the Obama campaign and it's surrogates have distorted the meaning of the line implying instead that this is a negative attack on the qualifications of Senator Obama. The original 3 am phone call ad was considered by the anti-Hillary crowd as implying this very thing. But let us examine the facts, shall we? Just what is it that makes Hillary so absolutely certain she is the person best prepared to be Ready on Day One?

Hillary's recent ad Kitchen is a case in point. Her detractors state that Hillary is playing the terror card. In fact, just yesterday DNC official Donna Brazile alluded to this on This Week. But upon examination of the ad it is clear that Hillary only brings up situations that many Presidents have faced in the past,  situations more than very likely to confront our next President. This is not playing the terror card. It is being realistic about the awesome responsibilities of the presidency and the real dangers that exist within this world we must lead.

Have a look.

What does this ad really show? An economy in shambles, our country attacked, a large historic city nearly destroyed by a natural disaster and her residents still in great need, high gasoline prices, a terrorist mastermind still at large and our soldiers at war. Every SINGLE issue portrayed in this ad is an issue that the next President will need to face squarely on Day One. And all the talk in the world about hope won't change that fact.

But what has Hillary done that makes her so certain she is the right person to begin leading us out of this morass on Day One? Her detractors say that she has no real experience. They joke about snipers and ridicule her 8 years of service to our nation as First Lady. So is there an experience in the past that demonstrates Hillary's leadership and qualifications to make the tough decisions that our next President will have to make of necessity? As it just so happens, there is.

On the morning of September 11, 2001 our country was attacked by a band of terrorists. I am certain we all remember that. But on that day a story that few know unfolded. A tale that demonstrates without reservation that Hillary is a real leader that is respected for that leadership on both sides of the aisle. Because she doesn't just talk a good game. When crises occur she has the real experience that any proven leader should have.

What follows is a short video of an interview with former Hillary Clinton staffer Ann O'Leary. She recounts what Hillary did on that fateful day. It is a tale so little known in the public arena but a tale that everyone should be aware of. It demonstrates quite clearly why Hillary is ready to be President on Day One. Because during the darkest hours of the darkest day in recent American history, it was to Hillary Clinton that her peers turned. That should speak volumes to anyone that questions her ability to be Ready to Lead on Day One.

Special thanks to HillStar Amy Pearl for sending this to me. I highly recommend that you watch the whole video here:

The second video is very interesting. I had heard this before. But didn't quite know whether or not to believe it.

I have been assured that the video was fully vetted before it was released. If you have the time, please watch the full video linked at the very end. It's about 7 minutes long and goes into greater detail just what exactly happened that day.

Re: Ready to Lead on Day One (2.00 / 2)

Thank you alegre. You are a wonderful writer and advocate for Hillary. I will try my best to ignore the bitter elite folks. I honestly don't understand why they feel it necessary to say so many immature and demeaning things so frequently. We all have our moments but to many of them it seems a way of life. Sad really.

Re: Ready to Lead on Day One (2.00 / 1)

Speaking for myself I could sure use a gas tax holiday. I see nothing wrong with giving the citizens back some of the profits created by the Bush/Cheney/Obama Energy Bill that gave BILLIONS to the oil companies that suddenly Mr. Obama wants us to believe he is really against.

Re: Ready to Lead on Day One (2.00 / 1)

Well yes, the gas tax is not profits given to the oil companies. You are correct about that. But we the citizens deserve some type of rebate or relief from the government that gave the oil companies these huge tax breaks that led to their windfall profits.

If people were indeed using less gasoline now because of these high prices there would be less demand which would push the price down. But as it stands now ordinary people are dealing with the higher gas prices because they need the gasoline to get by from day to day. It isn't as if people aren't buying the stuff. They have to.

I wouldn't care if George Bush offered the idea to give the middle and lower class a break on gas prices. I would give him a big thumbs up for doing the right thing. For once.

Re: Ready to Lead on Day One (2.00 / 1)

You're buying into a Republican meme. Taxes bad.

Please don't pretend to read my mind. You don't know me. You have no idea what I know or believe.

What you fail to understand is that to ordinary people 18.4 cents per gallon of gasoline means a lot. It may not dramatically change their bank accounts but it goes a long way psychologically to determining how they feel about their government. And that in itself helps to build stability in the economy. When people believe that their government is working for them they begin to work for their government. Democrats used to understand that.

If this 18.4 cent per gallon tax rebate is so minimal and of so little consequence then why are you so adamantly opposed to it?

Re: Ready to Lead on Day One (none / 0)

I read you initial post. Your whole objection to it was because a Republican also proposed it. In case you weren't aware, it was Richard Nixon that proposed the EPA. Even a Dick can have a good idea every now and then.

My understanding of the general psychological state of the general populous comes from actually talking with real human being Americans that are struggling to get by day to day. It doesn't take a Freud to understand their psychology, just someone with an open mind and the ability to listen.

Re: Ready to Lead on Day One (2.00 / 5)

This is a fantastic diary, and a great video. You need to get this to the attention of the campaign so they can use it in some way in an ad.

Thank you. I have no idea how to get in touch with the campaign. I am just a writer that supports Hillary and our Democracy. If you know of some way to get this to Hillary, please do so.

I really don't understand your antagonism and obvious bitterness. This is an entirely positive diary. It doesn't down your favored candidate in the least. Please at least try to be respectful to others with different viewpoints.

I just hope that Hillary (1.50 / 2)

realizes that Presidents are often sleep deprived. I hope she doesn't somehow "hear" in one of the 3AM phone calls, something that causes her to "obliterate Iran."

Hey, last time she was sleep deprived, she made up a story about ducking sniper fire...it's a legitimate concern here.

thank you for this excellent and thought-provoking diary.  I have watched all of the second video a couple of times and it is exemplary of why everyone who knows Hillary supports her bid for President.  Thank you again for the exellent diary.

beautiful ad (none / 0)

and I recognize the voice from Bill's commercials in 1992. this is why I want her to be the nod, she knows how to politic and so do her people. they're far better than John Kerry's horrendous 20 second spots

but moreover, I love the music in that ad too, and the voice is from Bill's old commercials "Clinton Gore, for people, for a change", but the music continues to elaborate on the "Rocky" theme

Nice Diary (none / 0)

Thanks for posting a positive diary, free from smears and half-truths.

I think that Hillary would make a fine President.

I also think Obama would make a fine President.

I look forward to supporting our Dem nominee against McCain in November!
