75% of Democrats in office are qualified to be President

If indeed the "Old Liberal Guards" Jesse Jackson, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi & John Kerry have their way & ensure a Barack Obama nomination, congratulations to 75% of All democratic elected officials.

To All the Democratic Mayors in all 50 states, to All Councilors in every town & county in america, to State Senators in State Legislatures across the country, to assembly members in Upper & Lower state houses- YES, you are all hereby Qualified to be the Next President of the United States.

This is the real tragedy when Affirmative Action is officially extended to the Highest Office in the land.

Where else in America would you find a first time Senatorial Candidate being allowed to give a KEY NOTE address to a National Party Convention?

Yes, Congratulations. 75% of All Democrats in Federal, State & Local levels are now qualified to be President of the United States of America.

Thanks to the Barack Obama rule.

This is no different than a young & rising NBA star Chris Paul or Dwayne Wade being rushed to the Hall of Fame & join the ranks of Magic Johnson & Michael Jordan without the achievements or track record to speak of.

When a country is currently facing the worse economic, international & domestic problems, what do the liberal guards of our party do.

They nominate a candidate who is even less qualified than the current occupant of the white house.

Then 2000 Texas Governor George W. Bush was much more qualified than 2008 Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

( I wonder what happened to the thousands upon thousands of Kossacks & Mydd'ers ALL CALLING BUSH unqualified to be President back in 2000?

The only difference today? The rookie has a D next to his name.

Is our loyalty to our political party or to country ?

What's more important???  Practicing Affirmative Action or electing a politician who is tested & qualified to handle all these problems.

No wonder so many Latino Immigrants & Asian Immigrants have no intention of supporting Barack Obama in the Fall. Its all about values, meritocracy & being truly qualified.

Affirmative action was meant to protect citizens from discrimination. It was never meant to attempt to elect a person of color who is clearly not qualified to be President.

Giving exceptional & touching speeches is beatiful. Having graduated from an IVY League schools & being a lawyer is impressive.

But if that was the only qualification for being President, we have hundreds of young white, black, asian, jewish & latino democrats across america who would have those same qualifications.

Let me be the one of many of will repeat this 2008 prediction if Barack Obama is the nominee.

"2008 will be the lowest support for the Democratic presidential candidate in over 20 years among Jewish, Asian, Latino, Seniors & Whites. PERIOD!
And for the first time in two decades, a Republican John McCain will carry the White, Latino & Asian vote combined. It will also be the 1st Republican Presidential candidate to win over 40% of the Jewish vote."

Let's all talk on November 5th & see how the Massive Landslide defeat came about.

And I pray to God that Jerome Armstrong says to Markos & Bowers  " I Told you so "

This will be one UGLY November!

May John Kerry & Nancy Pelosi resign from their leadership role after November.

You're absolutely right. Again, I can listen to you talk about why you believe Clinton is a good choice; I can respect it. But trying to destroy another candidate verbally does nothing to further the dialog on this site.

cruelty to animals diagram, and laughing about it. Same poster put one up a few days ago with a dog crashing into a tree because whoever threw the frisbee threw it purposely into the tree.  Again, the word "fail" appeared. The poster HR'd my comment when I mentioned I thought it was cruel to the dog.

Long story shorter, I agree with the "sigh".  But a few more of these and I will start to wonder why this poster thinks its so funny.

Re: That is true (2.00 / 2)

I too grew up in a very rural setting, and my family occasionally raised, slaughtered, and butchered our own livestock.

We were a pretty poor lot, and for a goodly portion of my childhood survived on what we could hunt and what sprouted from our garden.  This with my college educated parents (father a public school teacher of government, social studies, and economics / mother a registered nurse).

To this day, I HATE both venison and beets.  In any case, the photo of the cow doesn't depict cruelty, merely misortune.  It's unfortunate, but my burger/steak joke would still be applicable wether or not the poor creature has it's head stuck or not.  :)

This is not helpful (2.00 / 5)

Clyburn's comments certainly will give some people the impression that Barack is an "affirmative action" candidate, but I really don't think this is useful to talk about.

We know that Barack is inexperienced.  His supporters do not care.  He has convinced them that experience is either irrelevant or actually a bad thing.

So.. really your diary is not going to serve any constructive purpose.  You aren't going to convince any Obama supporters to change their minds.

I suggest making a diary talking about Hillary's qualifications or accomplishments instead.  The sensible Obama supporters on this site don't mind reading positive things about Hillary at all.

When you're at work, do you think the person who's been in position the longest should get the promotion and raise?

Hell, why don't we just nominate Senator Byrd or Stevens or something as the candidates of each party. They've got lots of experience, so they're obviously qualified to be President, right?

I guess the best part of your little rant here is suggestion affirmative action is the reason Barack Obama is beating Hillary Clinton. Congratulations. Stunning insight.

Re: 75% of Democrats in office are qualified to be (1.00 / 3)

I've been a business owner for over 20 years.

My business expands into 4 states including Ohio & NJ.

I've been an officer of the National Chambers of Commerce for 20 years.

Have given thousands every year to Democrats including Governors Corzine & Strickland, Senators Brown, Menendez & Lautenberg.

In my entire lifetime, NEVER EVER have I seen or witnessed a Fortune 100, Fortune 500, Fortune 1000 or Inc. 500 company promote or elect an VERY GREEN, VERY INEXPERIENCED person ( regardless of how intelligent or how many post degrees he or she has )to be CEO or President of a Company!

NEVER !

And never have I seen a group of stockholders or Directors ever vote to promote an Inexperienced employee to be CEO.

And we are talking about the LARGEST CORPORATION in the world! The United States of America!

I can tell you.

80% of Democratic Party Business owners are VERY UNHAPPY, VERY DISSATISFIED with Obama.

He is simply Not qualified to be President.

We have so many problems in america today.

The last thing you want is give it to a Middle Manager who happens to give nice speeches.

Again, I'll call BS on your suggestions there.

Your dubious claims of business experience aside, George Bush has an MBA and was a CEO- and look how well that worked out for him.

This is a country, not a friggin' business. And just since you brought it up, here's a quick list of Fortune 100 companies that had incredibly inexperienced people as their CEOs, yet somehow managed to succeed.

-Wal*Mart
-Kroger
-The Home Depot
-Dell
-Microsoft
-Sears
-Lowe's
-Walt Disney

Just to name the ones I know offhand. Again, obviously, you are of the kind who think that time in rate = experience, no matter what. I don't see how you ever became a successful businessperson with that attitude.

But don't let me stop you from making up statistics and talking out of your nether regions, sir.

Clinton's.  I think he has a better take on the gasoline tax (I live in Minneapolis, MN so don't try to tell me that our infrastructure is in this country is fine and dandy and a gasoline tax holiday sends that signal as the funds won't be replaced).

I prefer Sen. Clinton's health care plan.

I don't vote based on skin color I vote based on the issues that I care about where there are differences.  I would hope that everyone in this nation could do the same as we would get collectively the best candidate for the country.

Requirements to be elected President (2.00 / 9)

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Article II, Section 1, Constitution of the United States of America

Those are the qualifications for President of the United States. Everything else is a question of the worth of a candidate and thus far the majority of Democratic voters making their preference known in free and fair elections have deemed Senator Obama the more worthy candidate. Deal with it.

Pretty dumb diary (2.00 / 4)

The qualifications required to run for the Presidency of the United States are stated explicitly in (what's left of) The Constitution.  They are:

*Only native-born U.S. citizens (or those born abroad, but only to parents who were both citizens of the U.S.) may be president of the United States.

*One must also be at least 35 years of age to be president. There is no maximum age limit set forth in the Constitution.

*A candidate must live in the United States for at least 14 years to be president, in addition to being a natural-born citizen. The Constitution is vague on this point: it does not state whether those 14 years need be consecutive or what the precise definition of residency is. To my knowledge, this requirement has never been challenged.

These are the ONLY qualifications.  All else is for voters to decide.  Up to now, in this democratic nominating process, more voters (by every rational metric) have chosen Senator Barack Obama.

For better (Democrat) or worse (Republican), that's how it works.

This diary is filled with howlers (2.00 / 4)

"Then 2000 Texas Governor George W. Bush was much more qualified than 2008 Illinois Senator Barack Obama."

Um, WTF?  Seriously, are you going to make this argument?  A legacy graduate of top schools with mediocre grades (and clearly never a real interest in education), admitted solely because of his family tree; a lifelong failure, running businesses into the ground throughout his adult life as he enjoyed addictions to alcohol and cocaine; the elected governor of Texas, the very definition of an empty suit backed by powerful interests.  Bush is a moron, has always been a moron, has never had interest in serving the greater good, and has treated elected office as a gift bag for cronies and sycophants.

Meanwhile, Obama earned his way into Harvard Law School, finished as a top student, has worked as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, constitutional law professor at a top law school, and state and U.S. legislator.

I mean, are we really going to measure qualifications with a blind eye to everything substantive?  Do you hate Barack Obama so much that you'll spit on his accomplishments and elevate the LEAST qualified president ever above him?

This is a shameful diary.

What is your problem? (none / 0)

This diary sucks ass.
Anybody writing shit like this in 2008 should be ashamed.
And did you know that Hillary Clinton has only been in office for 8 years? That's only 4 more than Obama, in case your math skills are no more impressive than your character.
So she was in office since 2001, and 2 of her big "accomplishments" were voting to go to war in Iraq and voting for the Kyl-Liebereman amendment, which made it easier for Bush to start something with Iran.
So many Clinton supporters are always blathering on about "experience", like it's some magic incantation that will shut off all dissent and win the debate, but "experience" is a lot less important to me that what somebody learns from that experience. I can't see that Clinton has learned a damned thing from all her vaunted experience in the Senate. That's a bad sign to me.
And guess what? In a lot of ways, there are no real preperatory experiences for the presidency, since it's a job like no other.
Yes, I'd rather have somebody with some time in government or time as an administrator or even both. But more than that, I want somebody who is wise and trustworthy. Clinton, so far as I can see, is neither wise nor trustworty.
I'm not sold on Obama. I'd much rather have Edwards, but sad for me, and indeed, for all of us, he is no longer running. So while I have my misgivings about Obama, he has two sterling recommendations to me: he is not a Republican and he is not Hillary Clinton.
I really have to wonder if some Clinton boosters have not lost all grip on reality. This bigoted appeal does not help your candidate's shot at the nomination. But it seems that as her odds fade, her supporters become ever more desperate, deusional and vile.
I'm amazed that you tried to make such hay out of Obama's "bitter" comment, since so many of you are so obviously, and, it would seem, incurably bitter yourselves.
I know a lot of you are let down by what happened this primary season. I was angry and a little bitter when Edwards failed to take off and had to drop out. But I like to think I handled my sadness and anger pretty well. It didn't take too long for it to fade; after all, it happened and there was nothing that I could do about it but deal with it and move on.
You people ought to begin dealing with it and moving on. You're only hurting our chances in November with every one of these vile, racist screeds, so why don't you just shut your mouth and put away your computer. Stew away in your own little hell if you must, but don't try to fuck everything else up in your irrational bigotry.
And now I'd like to close with a hearty "Fuck you!"
In fact, fuck you twice.
