People are jerks on both sides. They are racists that are Clinton supporters, and chauvinists that are Obama supporters. Luckily, we all seem to know who the assholes are and can get rid of them/ignore them.

I looked up that article; whatever. I can be against Clinton for a variety of reasons, but that's stupid. There was an email circulating awhile back (mid 2007) that said that Clinton was running just so she could make Bill VP, then step down. Gimme a break.

On another note, I don't get why everyone here is so worked up about Kos. I found out about Kos and MyDD at the same time, and I've always considered this my community... so when these Kos comments are made, I get confused sometimes. Who cares about Kos?

People personalize their feelings about gender in a way they don't about race. We all have women we're close to and when we yearn to deny them something based on how we perceive women should act or be treated, we see that yearning within the context of our own hierarchy of needs - meaning, our personal needs are the filter, not the intellectual paradigm necessary to understand the bigotry involved.

It's much harder to objectify someone who is physicially capable of punching you in the nose and comfortably surviving your response.

Funny now we never discuss how important working class white women are to the election in the fall.  They just dont appear to matter to BO supporters and we had a thread today suggesting that after the way HRC has been treated they are just going to come back to BO in the Fall.  

And if you look at the polls from both OH and PA you will see this voting group is the one that is hardening it's views of BO and let me tell you why.

These are older women voters who have had many experiences being pushed aside by less qualified, less experienced, younger men for jobs and promotions for many reasons some justified and most not justified.  And now they see their candidate, the first women who could be president, pushed aside by a younger, less experienced man whose campaign has actively (at least in their opinion) demeaned her and tried to deminish her accomplishments.  

But come Nov BO supporters think these voters will come to there senses and vote for BO. Well i hate to say this but BO has some work to do.  And if BO picks someone else other than HRC for VP these voters will say more of the same and Men always cut in fromt of the line of women.  Lets all assume many of these voters will go McCain in the fall.

Is it misogyny to require that someone be accountable for her own statements?

Here is what Hillary said about the contest in Michigan on that youtube clip above:

"I personally did not think it made any difference whether my name was on the ballot. You know, It's clear this election they are having is not going to count for anything."

And let's not forget what Terry McAuliffe said in his book:

"I'm going outside the primary window," [Michigan Sen. Carl Levin] told me definitively.
"If I allow you to do that, the whole system collapses," I said. "We will have chaos. I let you make your case to the DNC, and we voted unanimously and you lost."

He kept insisting that they were going to move up Michigan on their own, even though if they did that, they would lose half their delegates. By that point Carl and I were leaning toward each other over a table in the middle of the room, shouting and dropping the occasional expletive.

"You won't deny us seats at the convention," he said.

"Carl, take it to the bank," I said. "They will not get a credential. The closest they'll get to Boston will be watching it on television. I will not let you break this entire nominating process for one state. The rules are the rules. If you want to call my bluff, Carl, you go ahead and do it."

We glared at each other some more, but there was nothing much left to say. I was holding all the cards and Levin knew it.

I will agree this much: While racism is pretty much reviled in public speach, misogyny is relatively tolerated; so to that degree Obama's misogynistic supporters feel (relatively) free to speak openly in misogynistic terms, those with racist leanings on the Clinton side are less free to air them publicly.

That said, I think it exists amongst supporters of both sides, but I don't think it represents the views of either candidate.

The job of all self-respecting Democrats /Progressives is to not tolerate this speech from either side, and to not conflate the messages of rabid partisans/disingenuous GOPers with the messages coming from the parties.

In addition, we have a responsibility not to be too sensitive - don't twist everything to be racist/sexist, for this makes us as bed as those saying it.

I've seen misogyny on this blog and throughout the media.  I'm sorry, I just don't see it in the post by DHinMI.

I have to be honest.

I don't like DHinMI or Dailykos itself that much anymore, but I don't think the diary you posted by DHinMI was misogynist.  

I understand there exists a notion that because Hillary is Bill's husband, to suggest she's merely his proxy undercuts her humanity and demeands her both as a person as a woman.  I think there are some who do say things that touch on this theme and do it in a crude way.  But the diary above that was quoted didn't strike me as all that bad.  I've seen so much worse on that site.

The one that bothers me the most I think is "put a fork in her."  I used to see that at least once a day.

Honestly, the best solution to that site is to ignore it.  It thrives on attention, either positive or negative; it's all the same.  

I don't see mysoginy in this diary. Maybe a little chauvinism by our former President. A man who doesn't think a woman of suppossedly strong character, can think for herself, and needs him to micromanage a campaign. Every once in a while the Hillary supporters like to play the "woman card" like Hillary is some sort of sacred cow in a bad pants suit. Well it seems her husband is playing the chauvinistic card, ala Archie Bunker, "I know better than you honey, now you just sit down and I'll take care of everything. At 3 in the morning who would Putin rather speak to Bill or Hillary Clinton.

When the phone rings at 3 in the morning I hope it is answered by someone who knows where the phone is as opposed to someone who is still trying to find their way around if you get what I mean.
