Obama Attempts to Deceive the Superdelegates

After Obama's devastating defeat in Pennsylvania, the Obama campaign released a memo addressed to the superdelegates but published in the Wall Street Journal which argues that Obama would be the strongest candidate in the Fall against McCain. The memo is so deeply flawed that Jerome Armstrong ridicules it as "satire," and "exhibit A" for "intellectual dishonesty":

I don't know that I've ever seen anything a campaign poll memo that so obviously cherry-picks polls over the last 4 months to make their case. It's almost satire. Some rookie mailed it in on behalf of the Obama campaign's "memo to the superdelegates". I couldn't imagine a known political blogger creating this list, and not being laughed and mocked out of the blogosphere.

Not only are the polls cited by Obama Inc. stale, but much has transpired since many of these polls were taken. Most importantly, Rev. Wright has entered the nation's consciousness and Obama--contrary to his claims--failed to repudiate Wright. Obama was able to blunt criticism in the media by giving his "race" speech, but the public at large has turned off to Obama and the rational for his candidacy has vanished. A simple overview of the Pennsylvania results demostrates this fact. Hillary won 60 out of 67 counties in Pennsylvania and took every group except African Americans and those earning over $150,000 a year. In the critical state of Pennsylvania, Rasmussen Reports in a poll released today that Hillary leads McCain by 5 points but McCain beats Obama by 1 point. That's after Obama spent $11.2 million on ads and six weeks in the state. If the Obama campaign wants superdelegates to look at numbers, then these numbers from Pennsylvania must be considered:

Excellent piece, JKF. What a fraud Obama and his surrogates are.

I just learned that Obama's PAC the so-called Hope Fund America, makes hefty donations to the Super Delegates. Some might call them bribes....

Yeah, he's a really new kind of politician....He hands out kool aid before he lies.

It's becoming very clear that he's as dirty as those Chicago pols can be.

Haha (2.00 / 0)

the troll rates are funny.  I asked for links and proof to your accusations and I get troll rated.

Nice to know that some people have their own little cadre of willful ignorance.

Re: Obama Attempts to Deceive the Superdelegates (2.00 / 1)

HRC also gave money to superdelgates. But, yes, obviously Obama's bribing people.

Interesting tidbit, Hope Fund America gave money to Sen. Clinton (link)

It's called party building. It's a good thing.

Re: Obama's humiliating loss In Pennsylvania (1.50 / 6)

Just getting sick of the bs talking points.

Clinton folks, post Wright, said he would lose PA by 20, 25, 30 points. The media said she needed +10 for a credible win.

And she couldn't break double digits.

But somehow this is a humiliation or something. Well, I'm not going to say I'm jumping with joy. But I don't feel humiliated at all and I'm sure Senator Obama doesn't either.

Have you really been reduced to childish taunting?  It really gives me shades of "Gore lost just get over it" right after the SC decision in 2000.

Grow.Up.

Lost rate and rec for issuing a '1' to a trollish comment. The troll, not so much.

Re: Obama's humiliating loss In Pennsylvania (2.00 / 1)

Not really. He went from a twenty point deficit to less than ten, he's still ahead in delegates, and after North Carolina even the laughable idea that Clinton won Michigan won't be able to sustain the "popular vote" argument. He's tied with McCain in PA, beats him soundly in MI (where Clinton loses to him by ten points) and is solidly stronger than she is in swing states. It would've been nice to end this charade after PA, but the party will recover.

I, for one, would still be supportive of USSC Justice Clinton, if it will be a balm to her ego. Personally, I'd rather see her carve out a career as a lion in the Senate. I think she could do great things if she wasn't always worried about what David Broder will say about her and how it affects her triangulating presidential strategy. This loss could set her free and give her the opportunity to be great.

Re: Obama Attempts to Deceive the Superdelegates (none / 0)

Both candidates are making their strongest cases to the SDs.  Hillary's are, on occasion, laughable or logic defying, as well.  I suppose that's what we get when party elites get to pick the nominee.

My goodness (2.00 / 2)

Even for this blog this is a terrifically silly and dishonest diary.

To begin with dishonesty:

Obama--contrary to his claims--failed to repudiate Wright

Obama never "claimed" to repudiate Wright. He quite explicitly refused to do so.

And this helps explain, perhaps, my relationship with Reverend Wright. As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me. He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children. Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect. He contains within him the contradictions -- the good and the bad -- of the community that he has served diligently for so many years.

I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community

...on to the silly:
As for electability, and "cherry-picking polls", got get some numbers for Michigan and then we'll compare them to PA. Then we can do the same with Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Maine. All states Clinton is counting on for her "Kerry + Ohio" strategy, and all states where Obama is stronger than she is against McCain. Michigan is particularly awful for her. And she's tied with McCain in Florida; while Obama is tied with him in TX. I don't think either state will go blue in November, but where would you rather have McCain spending his money?
