Your Candidate Stinks, Lets Beat the Bush Fundraising Machine Instead

Bush is traveling to CT to raise money for a Republican. You know what to do... - Todd

Help offset President Bush's fundraiser against freshman Chris Murphy and challenger Jim Himes.  Donate today!

This Friday, George W. Bush is coming to Henry Kissinger's house in Kent, Connecticut for an exclusive, $1000 a head ($10,000 for a snapshot with the President!) fundraiser for Republican Challenger David Cappiello (running against Democratic Freshman Representative Chris Murphy) in Connecticut's 5th Congressional District.  Bush ally and war cheerleader and health care bamboozler Chris Shays (R-CT04) (who is facing a strong challenge from Jim Himes) is a co-chair of the event.

In response, Connecticut Progressive bloggers are joining together to raise money for Chris Murphy and Jim Himes.  While we may not have the deep pockets necessary to compete with a $1000 a head fundraiser, we do have the people-power to send the message that a President Bush fundraiser will activate our base and add money to the coffers of our candidates!  Click here to donate!  $100, $50, $25, or even $5 will help send the message that President Bush is a liability in 2008.

While President Bush's visit will give the failing Cappiello campaign some additional money, and provide Chris Shays with a chance to spend a little time with his buddy,  we just can't let this happen unanswered. That's why we're joining together in an effort to raise 250 additional contributions for Jim and for Chris (Murphy) over the weekend.

There are more of us than there are of them. Help us prove it, and send the message that Republican congressional candidates and congressman can't profit by toeing the Bush line.

Click here to donate to Jim Himes and Chris Murphy, and to say no thanks to President Bush!

Re: Your Candidate Stinks, (2.00 / 2)

Obviously, everyone's candidate is great and bunnies are fluffy.  But, lets not ignore that there are a few more elections taking place in November and the current President is still roaming around the country raising money for Republicans!

Re: Your Candidate Stinks, Lets Beat the Bush Fund (none / 0)

Guess what. If the winner of the pledged delegates for the Democratic presidential nomination fight doesn't get the nomination, no Democrat gets money from me this year.  And although I live in a swing state, I won't do any campaign work either nor open my home to volunteers from other states as I have five previous times. But I certainly will never vote for any Republican, including John McCain.

Clearly no one is purer than you are!

I still would rather Himes and Murphy represent me in Congress than the other guys.  And I'm an Obama supporter too!

Wow...cut off your nose to spite your face is an excellent philosophy. Good for you!

Hey, I'll vote for them like normal citizens. But nothing else.

Re: Your Candidate Stinks, Lets Beat the Bush Fund (none / 0)

define "winner of the pledged delegates." a win by 1 delegate? 2? 5? 25? I mean if one of them can get to the magic number by pledged delegates alone that's great but if not, I'm not sure at what point you suddenly decide a plurality is somehow dispositive and equates to a majority. pledged delegates are only part of the calculus, so I'm not sure how you suddenly leap to pledged delegates = the entire calculus.

Um... maybe I don't understand campaign finance rules as well as I thought I did but....10k for a pic with the President is legal how?

Re: Your Candidate Stinks (none / 0)

State parties can raise money in contributions up to $10k, so, theoretically - I have no idea how this is actually being done, anything over $2300 (per election - in this case $6900; 2300 each for the convention, primary, and general) can go to the CT state GOP...

Re: Your Candidate Stinks, Lets Beat the Bush Fund (none / 0)

The good news is that Chris Murphy should be unbeatable in the Fall. His first term has been a breath of fresh air after ousting GOP old-timer Nancy Johnson. For Cappiello to be linked to Bush is just going to seal the deal.

Now, if we can get a photo of Bush, Lieberman and Cappiello together... I am sure Holy Joe is thinking hard about how much Cappiello would contribute to his  fight for "centrism". Murphy is exactly the sort of "left-winger" that Lieberman will not support.

it's amazing to me how Murphy won in such a Republican-leaning district.

Re: Your Candidate Stinks, Lets Beat the Bush Fund (none / 0)

CT-05 is just about split right down the middle- or at least it was before Holy Joe went nuts and Hillary and Obama decided to come here before the primary. Now it is probably 52-48 Dem.

Interestingly, Murphy won so big by slightly winning urban, conservative Dems (in depressed places like Waterbury, which went strongly for Joe, and New Britain), but won strongly among minorities, rural Dems (in the northwest corner), and rich, well-educated denizens of the Hartford and New Haven burbs (he won uber-rich Simsbury and Avon, and also won pretty-rich Cheshire, which is also his hometown.

Murphy's no slouch with the fundraising, and Bush is poison here, so Himes probably could use the money more to continue breaking records against Chrissy Shays.

Not so Republican-leaning anymore.  (The 5th CD encompasses more than Litchfield County, but this will give you an overview of a traditionally Republican part of the district.)

And Murphy won overwhelmingly.

Lets Beat the Bush Fund (2.00 / 1)

Pretty discouraging to see only 4 people have put their money where their mouth is on this one...and I know who one of them was.

This is one of those opportunities for the "activst base", "liberal bloggers" and "nutcakes" to show our strength and smack down the king himself.

Dig through your couch, the taco bell money in your car's ashtray, or a bit of the money you were going to spend at the bar tonight and send 5 or 10$ to each of these guys.

Disclaimer: I work for Sam Rasoul, Presumptive Democratic Nominee in Virginia's 6th Congressional District
