Clinton Beats The Spread, Cruises to a Convincing Victory

Hillary Clinton has once again defied all the political pundits and pollsters who have relentlessly predicted her doom. She swept the Pa. Primary, winning almost every region of the state convincingly. Obama concedes in another state giving a tired speech to supporters.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/04/2 2/politics/main4036287.shtml

Hillary's double-digit victory is a powerful argument that she will use in convincing uncommitted delegates that she is the candidate that can beat McCain in the Fall.

Hillary has won every large state, outside of Illinois, that will be essential and important to capturing the white house in November. That indeed is a very powerful argument. In addition she has put a sizable dent into his popular vote lead, and has cut into the delegate lead he holds.

The Clinton Campaign is reporting this evening that donations are pouring in to their website, with at least an additional 2.5 million received since Hillary was declared the projected winner in Pa. To contribute go to www.hillaryclinton.com

Now its on to another rustbelt state (Indiana) that is another important battleground state (Obama is expected to win in N.C.) Like Pa and Ohio, Indiana is comprised of many blue-collar white voters which have favored Clinton in previous contests.

Our congratulations are extended to Hillary Clinton and her campaign for a impressive and convincing victory in a crucial state.

That is a really offensive tagline. Out of all the incredible things the man said, and for all of his accomplishments, is that what you want to use to represent MLK Jr.?

By what measure? What is being included/excluded. Please be specific.

BTW, is it your belief that the pop vote is what the nomination is based on?

It's that kind of attitude by Obama and his supporters that is slowly losing him this election.  Just say you're sorry and move on - don't try to belabor the points where people disagree with you.

He can't lose the election. He's too far ahead. Clinton won by 9.5 points and didn't dent his lead.

What should I say sorry for exactly?

Re: Clinton Beats The Spread, Cruises to a Convinc (2.00 / 1)

I think your comment that Obama made a really tired speech is unnecessary. Human beings do get tired. He's been campaiging for the nomination for a long time, as has Clinton. A little respect is due. Actually, a lot of respect. They're both great Democrats. Although I have a strong preference for Clinton, I've voting for whoever wins.

Re: Clinton Beats The Spread, Cruises to a Convinc (none / 0)

In the same manner that the Obama supporters have been kind to Hillary? Not only did I believe his speech was boring and tired, but so apparently did some of the pundits on the major networks. Look I'm not reporting a beauty contest here....he should take his licks like everyone else. I'm tired of hearing this crap about "everyone picking on poor Obama" He looked like a loser tonight and that is what he was.

What a margin (none / 0)

10% margin and 210K+ popular vote margin.

WOW!!!!!

Wasn't there some goofy pundit predicting an Obama win. Who pays these guys?

who the hell (none / 0)

was predicting he will win.

There were predictions that he will cut her margin in half which turned out to be true.

She polled at +20% before he started campaigning.

It looks like he cut it in half exactly

Nice spin, but everyone knew that the 20% was an exaggeration, just as the 18% lead by Obama in NC won't come to reality

Re: who the hell (none / 0)

No. 20 was her lead before they started campaigning. That's not called an exaggeration. It's also the number she needed to win by to make a dent. She did not. She won by 9.5. Not even double digits.

that was her lead before they started campaigning.

Looking at PA SoS website Hillary's lead is currently 8.6%

So far she is not in double digits.

Re: who the hell (none / 0)

Agreed Obama will probably win NC by around 12-15%, but could you just clarify why Tejas a Red state that is far more heavily hispanic than the population at large is important and counts while NC a purple state with a sizable African American population doesn't matter?

Re: Clinton Beats The Spread, Cruises to a Convinc (none / 0)

Hillary did exactly what she was expected to do: win PA by double digits. I don't think you can say that tonight's win defies the predictions of the pollsters and the pundits.

As for the speeches, I thought Clinton did a good job even though she was hampered somewhat by reading from her notes.

Obama's speech didn't seem tired to me -- a  bit familiar in places, sure -- but he seemed energized and so did the crowd. I especially liked how much he focused on McCain.

Congrats to Clinton and her supporters on a fine win tonight. The next few contests are going to be very interesting.

Re: Clinton Beats The Spread, Cruises to a Convinc (none / 0)

Well, we can play the expectations game, but the fact is that she started with a 20+% margin, and as recently as yesterday the majority of polls were showing her with a 9% to 10% margin, so I think it's fair to say that:

a) She was always favored to win PA

b) She won by roughly the % she was expected to win by

c) It's less than she wanted or needed

Nonetheless, she deserves credit for her win tonight. I'm looking forward to the remaining contests.

I don't think you'll see much crying and whining. We've been expecting this loss, and all in all, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. Obama's lead stays virtually unchanged, Clinton's advances tonight will likely be erased in NC, and the race continues. I'm not calling for Clinton to drop out nor have I. Let's keep it rolling and see what happens.

Re: Say What? (none / 0)

And what planet are you living on? For weeks they have been saying that Obama was closing the gap and was within a few points of her lead. In fact most polls were shown that even up until the last day or so before the primary.

So yes she did defy the predictions of all the biased media and the pundits and pollsters who said she had to win by large margins in Pa. A decisive victory as the press will be reporting in the morning.

Re: Say What? (none / 0)

SUSA had her up by 14% last week.

American Research Group had her up by 10% last week.

Just yesterday Zogby had her up by 10%.

Yes, Obama has been closing the gap, and some recent polls showed Clinton with a lead of 6% to 8%, but she's always been expected to win, and that's precisely what she did.

I congratulate her and her supporters on her win. On the planet I live on, that's what we do when someone runs a vigorous campaign and comes out on top.

Nonetheless, Obama's lead in pledged delegates and popular vote remains intact, so I look forward to the remaining contests.

99% of vote counted

at least a 215,000 vote advantage.

The Gov. had said 9% the other day...Her internal had it at 11%
Yes it was convincing..

Sen. Clinton did win PA..
Should have the full delegate count tomorrow.
A 10% win netted her 11 delegates in Ohio.

oh....we will see if she can half Obama's lead in NC.
