Delegates, pay attention.

You have a 48-47-4 Scenario. No candidate has a total majority of votes. As is being said on CNN, by Jeffrey Toobin, this is the worst of all possible worlds for the Democratic Party. Obama is revealed as having real flaws. while Hilary doesn't seem to have a path to the nomination without potentially ripping apart the party. Clinton captures the Reagan Democrat demographic.

Either candidate stands to only win a close election at best.

Why not go for the landslide? Take a compromise candidate-- one whom captures Clinton's blue collar strengths, and one who espouses the Optimism of Obama. Make the convention matter. Show that we thrive with a representative vote. We discuss issues in our party. Why should we sacrifice the opportunity for maximum exposure that an Open Convention would bring? This could show the Democratic Party at its best-- with senators and governors having equal footing with ordinary citizens.

Why not take the sure thing?

Think about it.

The only difference Edwards can make is endorsing Senator Clinton BEFORE NC?

Otherwise, there is only one problem with your suggestion?

They voted for delegates to represent their voice. Those delegates vote on equal footing with superdelegates come the convention. Being a delegate would matter then.

Consider-- If you are a delegate, would you be more interested in going to a contested convention or one that is fait accompli. For me that's a no-brainer.

It would be a lesson in true democracy.

Do you know HOW you get to the convention as a delegate?

You go through a primary process, district, and county, then state?

THE MOST ardent supporters of the candidate make it through..

Now, place this scenario:

Take Allegre, Texas Darlin, Little Otter, make THEM Hillary delegates?

And, your most ardent Obama supporters here?

Same thing.

Now, run your scenario by them and talk THOSE FOLKS into dumping their candidate and going to Edwards?

That is what it would be like at the National Convention, trying to talk BOTH Obama and Clinton pledged delegates into doing this....

Who do you think would be the second choice of most Obama supporters? Would it be Hillary Clinton?

Who do you think would be the second choice of most Clinton supporters? Would it be Barack Obama?

What would cause the most hard feelings to Clinton supporters? What would cause the most hard feelings to Obama supporters?

What would preserve the unity of the party?

Again, HOW do you convince ANY of the most ardent supporters to go for ANY second choice?

I'm serious, try that with Allegre, or Little Otter?

Say, look, you and the Obama supporters have just spent the better part of 15 months fighting tooth and nail NOW all of you switch?

You are making then BOTH lose, in their eyes?

BTW, here's the question for you?

Were you perhaps a John Edward's supporter?

Of COURSE, if so, you might like this idea a whole lot better then EITHER a die-hard Obama or Clinton supporter...

And, btw, if you want to do this game, the logical choice is NOT Edwards, it's Al Gore?

Al Gore WAS President, they just robbed him of it?

He is WAY more qualfied to be President then John Edwards...

In fact, more then Hillary or Obama COMBINED!

Seriously, I do think you are a diehard Edwards fan, cause this you haven't really answered any of my questions, so I think this is proabably a wonderful pipedream of yours.

John Edwards - the best candidate in the race this year, by far.

That said, he wouldn't have a small-D democratic mandate, and the Clintons would turn on him in an instant and knee-cap him too.

If everything descends into a bloodbath, in short, it needs to be Gore. He should have run anyway.

I agree with CoyoteCreek. Some of us actually have a preference based on the candidates' positions. I can think of many positions John Edwards would serve extremely well in - including the "poverty czar" position that Clinton has suggested. I don't thinking John Edwards will go missing from the Democratic Party anytime soon.

But, it's not going to happen, sadly.

I think Hillary should press Elizabeth Edwards for an endorsement. It seems John isn't going to do it but based on her public statements Elizabeth seems to favor Hillary
