Earth Day, Open Thread

The day otherwise known as the day of the Pennsylvania Primary has finally arrived.

I love how Google always reminds me when the holidays happen.

I can't think of a better reason (none / 0)

to vote for Obama, who has a lifetime score of 96 from the League of Conservation Voters, the highest of any candidate in the 2008 election.

I'm glad to hear that he has such a good (none / 0)

rating.

I don't understand, however, why he voted for the Cheney Energy Bill.

His 2006 rating is 100% (none / 0)

Hillary's was 71.  Not sure what happened in either case.

I agree but even worse, HRC voted for the Iran Resolution in Oct 2007. 2007? After all the lies with Iraq, she voted with Bush in 2007 - just 5 months ago.

Neolite.

Final Election Inspection Prediction (2.00 / 1)

With the undecideds breaking for Clinton 2-1, I have revised my forecast: Clinton will win by 4%-13%, with a median of 8%, and gain 12 delegates.

My associate at Election Inspection, Elliot, predicts Clinton by 12, also for 12 delegates. Al Giordano of "The Field", a great blog, predicts Clinton by 4.6% for a gain of 4 delegates.

Re: Final Election Inspection Prediction (2.00 / 0)

I predict a:
-10 - 30 % spread to fall for Clinton or Obama
The winner will pick up between 1 - 50 delegates.

Take that to Bank!

I had my laugh for the day (2.00 / 1)

reading Greg Sargent at TPM, reporting on the new Zogby poll that shows Clinton up ten points over Obama.  In typical, TPM Spin It for Obama Style, he states:

The poll finds Hillary edging over 50% and into a double-digit lead. She's up five points from two days ago and six from five days ago. The latest expansion of three points is larger than other recent gains, suggesting the possibility (if Zogby is right) that the late-breakers are turning her way.

Still, six percent remain undecided. So Obama could still make the outcome much closer than the decisive victory she needs, something that would significantly ratchet up pressure on her to drop out of the race.

So she's ahead by ten points and the take-away thought is that she will be pressured to quit if the win isn't big enough!

Re: I had my laugh for the day (none / 0)

Sargent is the most unbiased reporter out there in the progressive blogosphere, in my opinion. Though Todd and Jonathan give him a run for his money.

I don't think he's unbiased. (none / 0)

This is not the first time I've read very pro-Obama pieces from him.

Re: I don't think he's unbiased. (2.00 / 1)

I dunno. Where HRC supporters see bias, I often just see a losing campaign treated like a losing campaign.

It's actually a lost campaign treated like one that has a realistic chance in order to gin up interest.

Re: Earth Day, Open Thread (none / 0)

This is the day things change. I personally predict that Hillary is going to win by a bigger than expected margin and that with that win she will get an endorsement on Thursday that will change the outcome of North Carolina.

Hillary by 14%+

Re: Earth Day, Open Thread (none / 0)

I'm for Obama, but I hope so! I've got tons of "Hillary wins NC" stock on intrade. I bought it dirt cheap. A small (short term) surge for Hillary in that state would make me money! Plus, then it'll raise expectations and when Obama wins by 30 it'll be hilarious.

Jerome for the kids (2.00 / 1)

Jerome, you +have+ to get BBC's "Planet Earth" for the kids. Trust me it will blow your mind.

Take it slow, there are 5 DVDs in it. I know you're thinking, yes, I have seen nature film before. No. Uh-uh. Not this one.

Trust me. Work your way through it with them.
My little ones dropped TV after they saw it and
are running around outside every day.

You are going to love it. Shoot me if this isn't true. Wait. ... ok. Maim me. But let my fingers
reach the remote.

What a day today! There's going to be a party in Atlanta with the Red Clay. Lilo from Lilo and Stitch says:

Jerome (none / 0)

Do you have a view on the acceptability of linfar's union diary on the rec list?  She makes 10 separate allegations of thuggery and intimidation of Clinton  supporters by Obama supporters, including speculating that they will be ballot stuffing today - without providing a single word of evidence, despite numerous requests so to do.

BLECH (none / 0)

Does anyone else have a serious case of election fatigue?
I sure do.
I know for a fact that I won't be staying up watching returns. I kinda don't care anymore.  Perhaps Clinton just wore me down.  I just want it OVER.

To make it worse, I can't even watch the MN twins because they are playing in the west coast.
Uhg.
Maybe its the night that I finally dust off my copy of Civ III and try my luck at emperor level...

Bill, Again (none / 0)

The 'race' issue seems to have gotten under Bill's skin:

In a further indication of just how perturbed Bill Clinton has been with this campaign, Bill made the following accusation against the Obama camp on a local Philadelphia radio show yesterday: "I think that they played the race card on me. We now know, from memos from the campaign that they planned to do it along."

It's not entirely clear what "memos" Bill might be referring to. The closest such memo in existence is one the Obama campaign put out a while ago, accusing the Clinton people of playing the race card on various occasions.

After the interview had officially ended, but while his microphone was still on, Bill upped the ante: "I don't think I should take any shit from anybody on that, do you?"

Eric Kleefeld - Bill Clinton: Obama Camp Memos Reveal Plan To Play The Race Card On Me TPM 22 Apr 08

Somebody's not letting it go.  Probably will get smothered by election result reporting but interesting nonetheless.

Re: Bill, Again (none / 0)

I saw that this morning but don't think it would get play, regardless of whether it was a primary day or not.  If it did, you'd have her supporters lining up to nod their heads in agreement with what he said anyway, and a particular nod to the last sentence, at least that's what it is seems like to me.

I think we should take this whole deck of "cards" and incinerate them at this point.

I also can't imagine how this plays in the AA commuity, his statements.  I am Jewish so tried to imagine myself in a situation like this where it was about the Jewish vote (I know all 2% of us), the Jew card so to speak.  I don't think I would much care for the side making this accusation against the other campaign.

Re: Bill, Again (2.00 / 1)

Wonkette this morning:

"The white ladies. They are important, and so are white men. Black people do not matter, because even though they're turning out in record numbers, it's totally predictable who they'll be voting for. This lack of suspense makes them inconsequential as a voting bloc."

Snark aside, it got me thinking.  There's been a lot of talk of white people lately in the media.  And for the sake of the election, aren't 'white people' 'white protestants'?  And didn't they drop below 50% of the population like a decade ago?

An awfully lot of attention is being put in that direction as if it's a majority voting block -- when I don't believe it is.

Re: Bill, Again (none / 0)

Yeah I don't think it will get much notice either but it sure was interesting, seems like Bill is feeling a bit uncomfortable with the narrative that has taken hold on the whole subject.

prediction: Clinton 53, Obama 47 (none / 0)

I think it will be closer than expected. But that isn't based on anything other than my gut feeling. I've been following the closing days of the Iowa legislature's 2008 session more closely than the campaign in Pennsylvania.
