It is almost a relief to see the misogyny so out in the open for a change.  The stark sexism of many Obama supporters is a sad commentary on our gender politics.

I read about half way down the comments and came to the conclusion that many of the women still blogging there are morons, including and particularly the FPers.

I also thought Hillary was the coolest, hippest First Lady we ever had.  Since 2000 I was pretty sure she was going to run in 2008 and I was sure I would vote for her.   That was an exciting prospect, having the first woman president...still is.

But by the time the campaign came around, she had positioned herself so far to the right I just couldn't vote for her.  And what is sad is that her problem is that she started positioning herself too early.  Public sentiment was different in the first two or three years after the millenium than it is now on several issues but mainly the occupation of Iraq.  But she can't help it...she's stuck with the position she took and her votes back when that appeared to be the politically shrewd move.

I was sad that I just couldn't support her right of center (wherever the hell the center is now) positions.  I'm not so sad now because of the kitchen sink politicking against one of our own.  I'm even less sad because she is attempting to throw MoveOn under the bus for her own ambitions.

Throughout this campaign I have been quietly saying to myself...please Hillary, stop this nonsense and go back to the compassionate, strong, progressive candidate I expected you to be.  It's frustrating, like getting into an argument with your significant other where said other gets so nasty that you are forced to say 'Please stop, you are making me hate you and I don't want to'.

I'm in two minds about this. Dhonig makes a good point that referencing Hillary's attractiveness is objectification - not quite misogyny but on the way.

This invocation of sexism is only legitimate if it's consistent. If it's just in support of Hillary - then people are degrading a higher purpose for partisan point-scoring. If you misuse sexism this way - just as if you misuse racism - then you're actually undermining the values you claim to hold.

I will only believe anti sexism is consistent and legitimate if it applies in hard cases. Time and time again I've seen Male Hillary supporters (or perhaps they're trolls) use some of the most egregious disgusting sexual remarks about Michelle Obama. I have seen where people have made comments about the relative attractiveness of Edwards and Obama, and that is considered a positive quality. In fact, men can use their sexuality to their benefit and it is generally accepted.

Why can't a woman? If you point out a woman is attractive you are sexist. If you call a woman a lady you are taking away here sexuality and therefore her power (as explained to me by my very feminist english professor).

One reason you lose men in these arguments is that their is no way for us to be acceptable (all sex is rape).
