The Most Serious Issues of our Time

Over the next four years, the next President of the United States is going to have to grapple with some of the most complex and profoundly important issues that we have had to deal with as a country for at least a generation.  We all know what these issues are - we see the consequences of them on regular basis at the gas pump, the increase in home foreclosure sales in our neighborhoods, families we know whose sons and daughters have shipped off to Iraq and Afghanistan, the sudden jump in food prices at the grocery store.  And this is merely what's been making headlines in the past week.

I don't know what percentage of the future president's time the abovementioned issues will consume.  But for all the importance placed on the economic and foreign policy issues, I was glad to see that someone finally zeroed in on the tough issues that the next president will need to confront and to delve into in great detail.  Thank you ABC:

-

  • Jeremiah Wright's sermons
  • Whether the word "bitter" is offensive to people in small towns
  • What Senator Clinton said about her trip to Bosnia
  • Whether Senator Obama knows someone who belonged to an extremist group from the 1960s
  • What Senator Clinton thinks 8,000 people in a Chicago church should have done in response to their pastor.
  • What kind of lapel pins Senator Obama prefers to wear or not to wear

These important issues totaled 50 minutes of last night's 90-minute debate, well over half of it.  And it's about time a network finally had the wisdom and understanding to foresee that the next President of the United States is going to need to spend at least half of his or her time grappling with these issues, and finding solutions to the problems stemming from them that impact the lives of everyday Americans.

It's about damn time.  Thank you ABC.

I have first hand knowledge from a source close to Obama that the boogeyman is in his closet and that he conspired with Hitler's niece's roommate's best friend to invade Poland. I was highly disappointed to not see this in the debate last night.

I think the debate was stupid... (none / 0)

..but Obama did terribly.

If this is the way he handles stupid media attacks, then he has a real problem, because they are not going to stop. They are going to get worse in the general election.

One weak debate... (none / 0)

does not an overall characterization make.  You will recall that Hillary had an egregeous performance back in December (November?).  Up to this point he has handled attacks fairly well.  So has Hillary.  Either will handle these attacks well in the general.

In any case, my original point stands.  I'm glad someone is finally talking about the issues that are important to me.
